I agree calling for a boycott every time someone disagrees with anything is a bit ridiculous. Is it just me or is the boycott tactic a favored move of the lefties? Just seems that way. Probably because liberals are a particularly whiny bunch.
Having said that, the act of placing cameras downtown is a particularly offensive move.
Cameras downtown? Are you kidding me?! This city just doesn't get it. One thing the cameras will be good for: recording the taping up of "going out of business" signs that will be going up in merchant's windows.
Let's see, shopping downtown vs. internet/Powers corridor/mall; Downtown: aggressive panhandlers, oppressive police force, high prices & taxes, parking tickets, traffic, etc, etc, and now your every move recorded on video! Online/other shopping areas: virtually unlimited selection, no tax online (often with free shipping), can shop online naked if you want, and no cameras in your home (at least not yet!) Adios, downtown! You've dug your own grave on this one.
After reading "Why look at other cities" (City Sage) and this, I think the city of Colorado Springs should be put on suicide watch.
Just sad.
Good riddance! Mike Miles is nothing more than a power-hungry megalomaniac and a school-yard bully. Now that he and his minions have thrown their weight around and completely gutted Harrison District 2 of many fine educators and programs, he is moving on. One has to wonder how many years it will take Harrison to recover. May God help Dallas Independent School District...
Miles should put Bush in the 'detention hall' and make him write 500 sentences every day:
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
I will not start fraudulent wars.
And no recess for the idiot Bush.
A key reason the 1% tax was implemented, and still needed as much as ever, is that the Federal gasoline tax was never indexed for inflation, has not been raised since 1993, has lost a third of its buying power since 1993, and now falls woefully short of funding our transportation infrastructure.
Our infrastructure is in a poor state of repair and/or inadequate, e.g. the need for more lanes on I-25 between Woodmen Road and Castle Rock, CO, etc.
An increase of 10-cents a gallon would raise $20B/year for road work that is sorely needed.
The reality is that this is a crisis of poor leadership which has not looked ahead and planned accordingly, i.e., once again we have only to look at Congress to find the root of our problems....
Seriously Ralph, do you think Mayor Bach even reads the Indy?
The distinction Mr. Routon is trying to make is between the homeless and those who are not homeless, but still need public services to get by. They may live in sub-standard housing, or may have no cash left over after paying the rent to buy food, etc. The idea is that people who are not homeless, but needy, will be shuttled to the same single facility as the homeless.
Smartestman: I may not agree with a lot of your comments but you are dead on with this one. I live downtown and consider myself a liberal when it comes to social policies but I want the homeless away from downtown. The cheapest and most effective way to move them is give them bus tickets to Florida. They will fit right in down there.
Build the homeless shelter in our southern suburb .... Pueblo.
The homeless problem is a detrimental for many downtown businesses and they feel the effects. Many downtown shops have closed their doors or moved away from the area. Most of Colorado Springs homeless population lives, eats, and hangs out in the downtown area. It doesn't encourage people to come and shop down there. The homeless are a visible problem, loitering outside the stores. Just having a store located near where the homeless may come into contact with customers will almost always have an impact on business. Tejon Street is looking like a ghost town.
"Move the homeless and needy elsewhere..." isn't using homeless and needy in the same thought redundant? If you were trying to say there are two classes of homeless, the bums by choice and the unfortunate, then you are correct. As to the reason for relocating the "homeless" being "...so that visitors won't see them so easily...", you, Ralph, are either attempting to hide the truth or woefully ignorant. Why don't you ask the business owners downtown and the residents that frequent the downtown area, for work or pleasure, for the reason? I say we move all the homeless to the south end of Banning-Lewis ranch where they can all have a fracking good time.
Clearly worth a listen.
Dave Anderson can win this. Lamborn and the republicans are destroying themselves. I hope and pray that reason wins out in this election. I hope and pray that CD5 voters demand better and vote outside the box this time.
This is a great article. Good to know there's some hope for our Congressional district. I look forward to learning more about Dave. I heard through the grapevine that his website will be up soon, but here's what I've found so far. https://www.facebook.com/VoteForDaveA
I approve this message.
I think it is the height of ironic hypocrisy that the media is touting their responsibility to the people. If the media were truly interested in the truth, we wouldn't have the president we do.
This is what ensues when you elect a person of questionable ethics and morals and then they encircle themselves with others of questionable ethics and morals.
Re: “B-word: not the solution”
The most recent boycott called for in the Indy's letters section was last week's call to boycott Starbucks for its support of gay marriage. Was that a "lefty" move? Looks like smartestman, once again, will not let the facts spoil his indulgence of his favorite prejudices.
