I'll be voting no on a permanent mill levy override.

Re: “The Gazette chews up two more papers

Just another form of censorship. Over the last two years the Gazette has become a cheerleader for the people/companies that own this city. Influencing voters so they don't get in the way of city giveaways is worth every penny Anschutz paid for the Gazette.

I recently moved to the Spings and saw you on the news. I was so excited until I saw there was a membership fee. What if I find that your establishment and I are not a fit?

Re: “New lawsuit in St. John's Baptist Church saga

Prodigal's the Father's arms are open wide...come home. Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Time to pray, trust God and rebuild the walls - as Nehamiah did. And then open up the gates so that the King of glory can come in...Who is this King? The Lord God Almighty battle...come home!

Re: “Local arts, police and crime, homelessness, and more

"Odin brings up a very good question. My question to Odin, ok, what is the Second Amendment about?" - Lil Mick

The Second is about the ability to keep and bear arms. This right is an extension of our inherent AKA natural or fundamental right to self-defense and community defense and it exists with or without the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment merely protects this existing right. One of the reasons it protects this right is because of community defense.

-

"it was originally about protecting the rights of citizens to arm themselves as a militia, keeping the militia, or military at that time separate from the government, enabling the citizenry to protect themselves from a oppressive government."

The military was never intended to be separate from the government. Please, read the Constitution. Being able to defend against an oppressive government is just one facet of a militia -- they were also for providing for immediate defense against invasions and insurrections, among other things.

-

"The Supreme Court and those who oppose gun legislation have made it clear, the need for a militia separate from the government is no longer necessary,"

Please, point to where the Supreme Court has said this.

-

" therefore that part of the Second Amendment can be ignored, it is not necessary.

So, since that is no longer the purpose, I argue, there is no longer a purpose for the Second Amendment."

You confuse the first 13 words of the Second Amendment with the reason the right exists. They are not the same thing. The first 13 words give one reason the right must be protected, not the reason it exists. Remember, the Bill of Rights does not grant any rights, it recognizes rights we already have.

-

"What we now have is a constitutional protection on a privately manufactured and privately marketed product. We have no such protection for any other privately manufactured and privately marketed products."

Except for the whole unreasonable search and seizure bit. Seems to me that homes are privately manufactured and privately marketed, yet there are Constitutional protections about when they can be searched, when they can be taken, and if we can be forced to share them. And even if true, so what? It doesn't mean that we can have any arms we please. It doesn't mean there cannot be any laws, restrictions, or limitations.

Therefore, I find your arguments to be extremely flawed and therefore not worth the electrons used to express them.

Re: “UPDATE: Regional Building takes second look at questionable deal

John, Not the City. Regional Building is an enterprise made up of the City, County and the other jurisdictions in El Paso County and does not receive any public funds. It is funded by the fees and charges it collects from building permits, inspections, etc.

Re: “Council cracks down on homegrow operations — green chiles, bubba kush and all

I love how they added "all" to the "flora" portion. I doubt very seriously that anyone that grows veggies, is doing it indoors. They will only send the swat team out for cannabis, otherwise, they will look even more stupid if they spend 300k to send out the team for cucumbers. Nice try on hiding the blatant discrimination though. I don't give a crap about their "fire ordinance" I will live by A20, not by City Council and the Mayors made up rules. Thank you never much...

Re: “CSPD to beef up patrol

I strongly disagree with that statement. The community impact unit can be saying hi to kids when they don't have a call. Glad to hear changes. From south Texas, Corpus Christi, gang population is off the charts and yet you can always get a hold of someone on the non-emergency number and response times are much quicker. Not the only change needs to happen, but it'll keep us law abiding citizens safer as the city government does their job.

Staci6 - I would think that recall petitions would be pulled. Owen, that member is not up for election, interestingly.

Re: “D-11 says it needs more money to make schools safe, educate students

What ever happened to all the $$$ that was going to be saved by closing 9 schools back in 2009? I've never seen any report on what that move did to give D11 more funds. Now they want more?

My last name is Garcia. If lunged at thru ur window by any1 -ur mom or the Pres of usa- & u "say" u felt threatened 2 the cops afterwards it is the law that u r protected under. Period. The prob is punk kids -& adults who think its their right 2 punch some that says words 2 u u dont like. Racist r not. 1st amendment covers speech, not punches 4 words. Re: “D-11 says it needs more money to make schools safe, educate students

Lost my job in D11 because I have a Masters degree and the other teacher did not. Spent many years teaching in some capacity in the district and it came down to money. I am not badmouthing the district, just trying to bring to light that funding does impact more than you think. They can't retain highly qualified teachers without funding.

Re: “Ex-gay like me

The powers of Lord Henry Permanent Love spell cast are really great, having been helped by this man, I recommend his permanent spell cast to all that has fallen off hope of getting back their long lost lovers.
Hi Everybody, Am Isabel Claire Pascal, 32yrs, I have had a breakup some few years back with my ex husband, it really hurt me much until about 2 years later when I met with James my current husband now. When I started the relationship with James, all seemed to be going well and romantic until after I gave birth to our son some months ago. Suddenly James behaviors changed, he started sleeping out, I heard rumors that he was in a relationship with one of his senior work staff and when I confronted him about it he hit me twice, and finally he packed out of our home and threatened to file for a divorce on the next month. All this made me felt bad, because I have passed through heart break and divorce and I don’t want to suffer such again. I complained to my friend who told me about Lord Henry's Spells. I thought of giving a try immediately because the conditions was becoming unbearable, I searched his website: www.permanentspellcast2.wixsite.com/permanentlovespell and contacted him on his email: Permanentspellcast@gmail.com he replied back to me immediately with words of encouragement that really eased my pains, he told me what to do which I really did and ordered his Love spell, I was shocked when my husband returned home after some few hours after the spell cast as promised by Lord Henry. He asked for forgiveness and canceled the file for a divorce. Am so happy and grateful to Lord Henry of Permanent Spell Cast for helping me. To you that are reading my story, I just want to let you know that there is still more hope than ever. And to those who are also in same case as I was, kindly contact Lord Henry for Help now on permanentspellcast@gmail.com … permanentspellcast@hotmail.com … permanentspellcast@yahoo.com .. Or on www.permanentspellcast2.wixsite.com/permanentlovespell

Re: “Why City Council might have snubbed the Open Meetings Law

Kevin-Rick

After the election, what will be the public response to a likely re-introduction of the stormwater enterprise fee and finding $12-$15 added each month to their utility bill?

Re: “Why City Council might have snubbed the Open Meetings Law

"Doesn't seem likely though with elections around the corner."

Reference by local elected officials to the fact that an "issue will not be dealt with until after the election" - - or "Some council members may not want to act on this as elections are coming up" related to different issues.

What is the primary goal:

A) Being in office, or
B) Taking care of the public business while IN office, every year?

Critical needs and decisions need to be made four years out of four. Not three.

IE: the matter of addressing how stormwater will be funded.

Water does not run downhill on election years?

Or funding for adequate numbers of police officers:

"But, Suthers said, "I would be shocked if the City Council had the appetite to do it before the election, and I wouldn't blame 'em."

- - - John, maybe you should!
