Re: “Manitou Springs: drab to fab

I don't think people who complain about a lack of parking understand that adding parking destroys the fabric of what makes Manitou a great PLACE.
No one wants to walk past a large parking lot(s) or garage(s), they want to walk past shops and restaurants..interesting things to look at or do. Space for car storage takes away from places for people (not to mention higher ROI land uses like shops and restaurants.)
If there's a parking problem, charge the appropriate price for parking! It's clearly a scarce resource. Why do people feel that it should be provided to them, in front of their destination, for little or no cost? Manitou should look to performance parking programs. It some places it might cost more than it does now, in others it may be less, depending on demand. It may mean charging for parking even in more residential neighborhoods, while implementing a system for residents to park their cars at low or no rates. The key is to try and keep 1 or 2 spaces per block open so that drivers don't have to continuously search for a space. People will walk if the walk is interesting, safe and fun...oh hey, that's exactly what Manitou is!
Complaints about parking always remind me of a good quote from Yogi Berra: "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."
A parking challenge is a good thing to have. There are solutions without adding more of it. Look to optimize the space first.

Re: “Manitou Springs: drab to fab

Manitou Springs has deliberately used parking tickets to boost their revenue to "sponsor " their solutions.... now the patrons will not return.....the city of Manitou Springs is selfish. THE SUFFERING TO BUSINESSES IS BECAUSE OF NEGATIVE ACTIONS BY THEIR OWN CITY.....

What Suthers "won" is a hopeless situation, i.e., TABOR. Visualize Gregory Peck lashed to the side of Moby Dick...beckoning his shipmates follow to certain doom.

Re: “Pet project

Yeah, y'all got me yesterday! I thought this was true and reposted it on FB. After I did that, I realized, "Hey, how in the world could you have a cat park without some sort of netting at the top or something? Cats aren't going to stay in a park!" I'm 53 years old and still gullible. I'm not stupid, but gullible I am sometimes! It was a great April Fool's joke I have to admit! I laughed at myself for 10 minutes! Well played, Independent, well played.

Re: “Election 2015: a passion pit

Frank Liebner of Larkspur is a self-described ultra-conservative and would-have-been billionaire had he not fought other people's wars around the world! He is also in favor of forcing people to vote. Head injury Frank? Forcing a person to vote? What's next? Telling them for whom to vote? That is usually what occurs in those situations, followed by imprisonment followed by executions. I would not think anyone who says "Electrical College" should vote. I have heard people say that very thing. Losing the Right to vote is something our screwed up judicial system uses as a punishment. Taxing someone for not voting is just plain screwed up.
By the way Frank, I stopped voting years ago because I just do not care for giving a lying thief the job of running my life.
Now, what the hell is "Ultra-Conservative"?

Re: “Flavors to savor

Julie's Kitchen off of S Academy has delicious Filipino and Hawaiian cuisine at good prices. Vi's Burgers and More in Security makes everything from scratch and has epic Mexican food. They have an open faced burger smothered in red or green chili. So good.

Most small business owners would prefer to be discovered by the masses, they don't last otherwise. When people know of a great place and don't spread the word they're actually hurting the success of that business. SHARE! SHARE! SHARE!

Re: “Put a shine on it

There are MANY CS neighborhoods that need to be cleaned up. A fresh coat of pain, pick up the trash around each home..... Simple and easy - it's about taking pride in where you live!

Agree 100% with this statement:
"What would you like to see happen there? It would be great if there was a trolley that ran from downtown, through OCC, to Manitou and back again, especially if that whole stretch was really nice with locally owned businesses."

Re: “Future imperfect in Colorado's public schools

I think it is extremely pleasant for these teachers to hear pleasant words about him both in the article and comments. I wasn`t lucky to be one of his students but I am always grateful to the specialists who love what they do and help their students to reveal talents but not to be stressed all the time searching for someone online service like this http://www.helponessay.com/ to get help with papers . I had both types of the educators and I can compare now. So, I hope such people will bring light to this world for many, many years

Re: “Marijuana and Manitou

Ask anyone in Law Enforcement who they would rather deal with, a drunk or someone high on pot? Alcohol makes some people violent, marijuana makes people mellow. As for health issues, Alcohol causes liver and kidney damage, affects blood and brain function. 3 or 4 puffs of smoke does not do the damage of a pack of cigarettes. The prohibition was more than likely brought on by big business and the pharmaceutical industry so people can't make money off of something that grows wild.

Re: “Marijuana and Manitou

Military Jay is afraid to go outside now that the demon weed is legal? OK. Thanks for expressing your concerns, MJ. I deal with the fear of drunken G.Is downtown beating the shit out of me every weekend in dowtown CoS, a stone's throw from Manitou. I weigh the risk every weekend. Is going out worth it? Am I too jumpy tonight? Will this shirt make someone want to kick my ass? What about the look on my face? What if some PTSD-afflicted Army fuckhead takes offense to *something*? Am I gonna die tonight? We live in a violent town mostly because of the military, the same military that enables M.J. to make his blood money. Weed that mellows people's harshness is coming, whether M.J. likes it or not. It's already here. It's been here all along. Fuck you if you don't like it.
