Re: “Reader: Spare us from a Robert Dear execution trial

Donald Spitz:

False equivalence. Diversion. A fetus is not "people."

Dear's actions are criminal. Abortion is legal. If you can't see the difference, you're not looking hard enough.

Your argument is why guys like Dear do what they do. They believe murder is justified to "save the babies." I repeat. Abortion is legal. Murder is not.

Any woman that has had 3 abortions, has done the same thing that Robert dear did. Killed three innocent people.

Re: “Reader: Spare us from a Robert Dear execution trial

Yes, of course and certainly a fair trial. But a costly death penalty trial should not be pursued; rather life in prison without possibility of parole, as the letter-writer recommends.

PBS and NPR soiled their own nest by becoming politically biased.

Re: “Reader: I am ashamed of Rep. Doug Lamborn

PBS owns the rights to a lot of good shows. No reason they couldn't be profitable on their own. As for the radio, radio is dead and they could broadcast on the Internet for a LOT cheaper. Crap kids that still live with thier parents can pull off podcasting... Please. Get real people. This is NOT a travesty.

Re: “Reader: Doug Lamborn, you're totally out of touch with your constituents

Brian Scott:

"This is, overall, a conservative community.
If you want to vote him out, you have to give voters a reasonable alternative."

I agree in principle. In practice, however, El Paso county GOP voters wouldn't recognize a moderate Democrat (or Republican, for that matter) if that candidate wore a sandwich board stating "I AM A MODERATE."

The majority of voters in El Paso county are not interested in moderation. They want revolution. They hate the government. They hate taxes. They hate "policy" and prefer 1950 to 2017. Any electorate that would put Gordon Klingenschmitt in office is an angry and gullible group. That isn't going to change in my lifetime.

"All things in moderation" is good advice. Sadly, it does not apply to El Paso county elections.

Re: “Reader: Doug Lamborn, you're totally out of touch with your constituents

Congressman Lamborn is highly responsive to the concerns of his constituents.
.
What you fail to understand is that he feels that he only represents about 10,000 people in CD-05, and that he can get their views by only meeting face-to-face with about 250 of those. The other 700,000 in the District do not have a representative in Washington.
.
He has his "telephone town halls,"in which his staff selects the questions, and feeds him the answers, all out of sight of any ordinary folk.
.
.
.
but the people who consistently return him to office are the liberal progressive Democrats who refuse to nominate a moderate, or dare I suggest, a conservative candidate.
This is, overall, a conservative community.
If you want to vote him out, you have to give voters a reasonable alternative.
.
In 2006, a Conservative Democrat ran for the nomination, against Jay Fawcett and the donkey guy (Curtis Imrie.) At the CD-05 convention in Greeley, he - I - got spanked, drawing about 4% of the vote. Heck, the donkey guy got more than double what I got.
Sure, I was a flawed candidate. But as a conservative, there was at least the possibility of beating Lamborn.

Re: “Reader: Doug Lamborn, you're totally out of touch with your constituents

When will Lamborn hold a townhall meeting in Colorado Springs...The last one was years ago/ by invitation only and in a tiny venue. Time to bombard his office with requests for an open townhall..the man never faces ALL his constituents...only the very right wing.
ENOUGH!

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

Has anyone else noticed that the ones that have screamed the loudest about the rights of the people and institutions in this country for the last eight years. Are now the ones trying there hardest to shut everyone up but themselves.

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

The letter writer is partly correct, as it is noticeable to long time readers that the Indy has recently become just another liberal crying towel instead of maintaining its longstanding position as the true representative of the fourth estate for this area. Perhaps it is time to consider changing the name of this publication, as "Independent" is now a misnomer.

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

"Low Mentality People" sounds like the name of a nihilistic, teenage rock band.

I often find those who complain about the poor intelligence of those with whom they disagree, are projecting.

As Henry David Thoreau once wrote, people who get labeled as half-wits often have half again as much wit as their fellows, but the average person can only perceive one-third of it.

Re: “Reader: The homeless issues aren't getting any better

Mr. Harvey,

Thank you for your letter regarding homelessness. I agree with you that homelessness is a problem and I am very sorry to hear that you have struggled with it in the past. I can only imagine the difficulties you must have faced. I have never been homeless myself, nor personally known a homeless person, but I have done what I could to help. I have donated many items to homeless shelter, bought meals for homeless people and families in need, and I have helped serve meals at the homeless shelter. I feel very blessed to be in a position to do what I can to help those in need.

While I see your point of view on homeless people needing safe places where they can shower, obtain clean clothes, hot meals, and sleep, not everybody is in a position to provide this. I understand and agree that lives matter more than money, but not everybody is going to be comfortable opening their homes to complete strangers. I do not think this makes them bad people or worthless. There are many other ways people can and do help.

For example, people can donate socks, gloves, clothes, coats or household items. People can donate their time to helping out at a homeless shelter or delivering needed items directly to the homeless. People can also start clothing drives or fundraisers to help homeless programs. While to some this may not seem like enough, to others, this is life changing. I encourage everybody to get out and do what they can to help the homeless population. A little bit can go a long way.

Thank you!

Mrs. Perry, Colorado Springs

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

Mr. Slocum:

"Whatever happened to decency and common sense?"

I think your President discarded all that when he started his campaign. Don't look for it to make a return for at least 4 years. It' just not his style.

As for the resistance that you seem to abhor, ask yourself this question: What, exactly, has Mr. Trump done to bring all Americans into his MAGA plan?

I'll help you out here. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. And he won't be bothering to do so, since he is only concerned with his base. The rest of us are his enemies. And, as he has said himself, he crushes his enemies. He has no intention of uniting with anyone but his supporters.

Pardon my cynicism, but when the damage is piling up in DC, the Indy is doing a public service by tracking and documenting that damage for its readers. You need to adjust your tolerance for poop. DJT is feeding it to us daily.
