Re: “Prime 25 opens in Ivywild; Red Leg announces new brew

I was thinking the same thing about the wage. We are members of the ymca and as soon as the election was over they said they had to raise the rates because of the increase in wages. What a bunch of BS. It's barely going up this next year. When I have checked their jobs online, this last year, I saw they are already paying most people around $9 an hour, so its not gonna hurt them. Cost of living has gone up a lot in the last 10 to 15 years, so should wages but companies just want to keep all the extra themselves.

A true Journalist will keep Politicians honest and forthright. Think of the many things that have came to light because of the freedom of the press. Watergate, Iran Contra, WMDs that were there but then were not, that goofball Weiner, Clinton with his pants down the list goes on and on. Who will keep these guys on the up and up with out the press. Wheres all the freedom loving, liberty loving Conservatives now. These are our rights to ya know.

Considering CSF is attempting to exercise influence they might not really possess, and the rather inept handling that Cassiana and Lane provided in their initial failure - would it not make sense to vote for the measure to increase the votes required for sale of portions of Colorado Springs Utilities up from a simple majority vote to one requiring 60% voter approval?

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward holds fundraiser for select council candidates

What about electing replacements for Dist 2 and Dist 3 - and vote to keep the current council members in place? They are predictably ultra-conservative and regressive but they have not been part of the problem - with the exception of Bennett and the public is stuck with him anyway - none really seem to be total "roll-over votes" for the power groups. For the 'trust' problem that seems to be a regular topic of conversation, is that not at the top and the Chief of Staff?

Mike Endres: You don't get it; the Indy didn't go by actual gender, they went by identified gender!

Harold Mason: Respectful cooperation goes both ways, so bug the Democrats on that; a serious budget was killed in each of the past 5 years by the Democrats, too; expanded health care coverage is not a federal delegated power (read your Constitution); infrastructure spending is a state issue; AGW is a political joke; equal pay for women is a marketplace issue, not a government issue; promoting alternative energy is the job of the marketplace, not government; essential regulations as defined by whom?; common-sense gun control is not made by regulation and restriction but by training and education; women's health is not a federal government issue; and immigration policy is a mess.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward holds fundraiser for select council candidates

If CSF supports it, then the smart and correct position is to oppose it.

The better slate will be the ones put forth that are backed by the cannabis businesses.

Re: “Prime 25 opens in Ivywild; Red Leg announces new brew

The minimum wage for cooks and back of the house restaurant staff will be $9.30 this year. I loved Marigold, but if they can't find the means or the heart to pay their staff this much, then good riddance.

I wonder if C. Springs can support Prime 25, The Famous, Cowboy Star and McKenzie's, all of which feature entrees in the $30+ range. I would look for at least one of these to close this year, especially with C. Springs per capita income lower than it was in 2005.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward holds fundraiser for select council candidates

People of Colorado Springs: WAKE UP.

CSF is NOT your friend and does not mean you well.

Developers, greedsters of all sorts, and lying politicians want to steal CSU out from under us. Remember how they tried to steal Memorial Hospital System and GIVE it to McEvoy? We put an end to that crap; we need to stop this crap.

They will privatize CSU, jack up rates, and laugh all the way to the bank.

Is it so horrible that CSU rates are 25% cheaper than Pueblo, Denver or Boulder? Is it terrible that CSU service is excellent? Is it a crime that money we spend on CSU stays local? Do we want to muddy the best water in the country? Do you want to pay 25% more?

They foisted the "strong mayor" on us and now they want their bought and paid for mayors to pick a Utility Board of their own scammers which will be the pathway used to steal CSU out from under us. Do NOT forfeit your right to vote on the future of CSU.

If we need to replace Drake we can do that without term-limits crook Lathen, the cabal of developers behind her, and phony organizations like CSF.

Do NOT be fooled by nice sounding names put on false-front organizations, the only thing they plan to move "forward" is their own wealth.

WAKE UP. Do not let them steal CSU for themselves and their pals.

Re: “Cirque du Soleil's OVO impresses

Cirque shows are amazing; we've seen two of them, they are part of the reason Ringling Bros just announced they are folding their tents and shutting down.

Once Ringling stopped elephant acts last year ticket sales declined notably; the rest of their show isn't competitive with "Cirque" or the horse-based Cavalia shows.

If we want to see lions, tigers and elephants we can go to the zoo.

Re: “Local developers make two picks for Colorado Springs City Council

Robert Gentry:

Respectfully disagree. There is a third choice. With any luck, there will be at least one candidate for each seat who is neither "yes sir Mr. Mayor - as you say" nor bought and paid for by wealthy developers. The former invites another Strawberry Fields (Rosemont?) and the latter invites further unbridled and uncontrolled urban sprawl in a town which even now cannot support its infrastructure.

Our job, in the next three-and-a-half months, is to determine if such candidates are running. I personally accused our Parks Department of not doing due diligence on Strawberry Fields. That cuts both ways. This IS a critical election, and the future of Colorado Springs rests upon the willingness of voters to do their due diligence and know exactly who they are putting in office.

Re: “Local developers make two picks for Colorado Springs City Council

"Utilities Board Members would be appointed by the Mayor"

An 'All Appointed Board' for Colorado Springs Utilities:

Is that a healthy choice for the community?

When voting on candidates supported by Colorado Springs Forward, understanding the goal of a 'slate of candidates' under control of Colorado Springs Forward and Nor'Wood might be a matter to give thought to. The current city council members did a workmanlike job of keeping this group at bay and thwarting their effort to gain control over our Utilities.

With Nor'Wood Development being the 'defacto' executive branch of city government - with Jeff Greene second in command and Amy Lathen the CEO of Colorado Springs Forward - keeping in office those they hope to unseat might assure a more measured approach to the future governance of Utilities!
