Re: “Local farmers market doubles food stamps — how do they do it and why is it rare?

You are right ThinkitThrough that Farmers Markets have been targeting those folks with money but I don't think this is out of some kind of bias or snobbery. Local food is pricey because you can't produce food sustainably at a cheap price. Small local farmers have to make a living, so they have to sell their food at higher prices.

This Doubling program will make local food accessible to low-income folks WHILE giving the local farmer a new client segment. Great for the farmer, great for all community members and great for the planet. Thank you Nat for writing this article.

Re: “Beware of rabies. Vaccinate.

Do you know that there is a great Herbal doctor who can cure any deadly disease. Like Cancer, HIV, syphilis, betides, madness, low spam count And also bring back your Lover e.t.c. Well my main reason why i am writing this right now is to inform the whole world about the great deeds, Dr. Omoa did for me. I was diagnosed of this deadly disease in the year 2000 ever since then i was taking my medications, until i met the great spell caster, though i never believed in spell. I saw many testimonies on how a great spell caster cured their deadly diseases. I contacted him through his phone number. I called him, he asked me to send him my email, which i did. He gave me a form to fill, I filled it and send it back to him. He told me that his god's required some items in which he will use in casting a curing spell on me. I don't know where to find the items he required. He told me that the only alternative is for of to send him the money, then he can help me to purchase the items from the items sellers. I promised myself to do anything to get cured. I sent him the money. He bought the items and caste a curing spell on me. Two day later he asked me to go for check-up, when i did the check-up i was tested Rabies. If you passing through hardship and you need a way out, kindly contact him via his email on dradanikesolutionhome@outlook.com OR dradanikesolutionhome@outlook.com +2348141309378

Re: “Racial disparities persist in marijuana arrests

Whenever there occurs a general decrease in some adverse outcome, groups with the lower baseline rate tends to experience larger proportionate decline in rates of experiencing the outcome while other groups tend to experience larger proportionate increases in rates of avoiding the outcome. Correspondingly relative differences in rates of experiencing the declining outcomes tend to increase while relative differences in avoiding the outcomes tend to decrease.

References 1 and 2 explain these matters fairly succinctly. Reference 3 and 4 discuss the patterns that have been observed in Colorado and Denver as both have generally reduced school suspensions. Reference 5 explains the matter to the City of Boulder with regard to criminal justice issues and reference 6 urges the American Statistical Association to explain the matter to the President.

But statement “since 2012, marijuana arrests among white kids decreased by 8 percent, but increased among Hispanic kids by 29 percent and among black kids by 58 percent” (original emphasis) suggests a substantial departure from the usual situation where all groups’ rates change in the same direction. But if the statement actually means that the proportion white kids made up of persons arrested decreased while the proportion Hispanic and black kids made up of persons arrested increased, that would simply be a reflection of the usual pattern. See reference 1 and Table 1 of reference 6. See also the July 1, 2016 preliminary note to reference 7.

Re: “Venetucci Farm suspends sales until water tested

"To connect people with causes that matter by advancing philanthropy, creating legacies, and fostering community stewardship." That is the mission statement of the Pike's Peak Community Founation.

Venetucci Farm is a legacy that fosters community stewardship - plain and simple. The farm was deeded to the Foundation *to be a legacy in the community*. It is a living, breathing example of this mission statement come to life.

Closing the farm is a disaster. If the board members of the Foundation do not reopen this farm, they are showing the public that they are quite obviously ill-equipped to make good decisions with large amounts of donated money.

I hope that large-fund donors to the Foundation are paying attention to this situation.

Re: “Iconic movie mixes nostalgia with history

Well, I thought Mister Hazlehurst made an interesting observation, one that I probably would not have made, even considering that I grew up in the Springs only a couple of years younger than John. I recall NO kids of color in grade school, and maybe one or two in junior high. In High School (the first year it was named Palmer) there were some black and Hispanic kids, but I recall them as pretty much middle class. Being then admittedly quite naive, I was not aware of any racial tensions. The black guys I remember were popular. I don’t recall any black girls, but the bubble of white privilege I lived in rendered me oblivious to a lot of things. When I finally encountered blatant racism in the Army, it astounded me, and I had trouble dealing with some of my fellow “whites”.
Long story short… now when I visit my home town and see all the black and brown people that I meet on the street, encounter in businesses or live next door to my relatives, I must admit to having a feeling akin to the "warm fuzzies", a good feeling, not just toward my home town, but the whole country. Things have really changed, and if that’s a “liberal Utopiaville” well, I like it. And I’m not going to let Donald Trump and his dog whistle Republican minions poison my optimism by trying to lurch my country back into THEIR version of “Utopiaville”. It is as disturbing now as it was when I first encountered it.
Thanks, John, for the enlightened perspective.

Re: “Heroin moves far and fast across the West — including Interstate 25

Mexico is the heart of the heroin trade let us cut the heart out and BUILD THE WALL.
Make no mistake the WHOLE government of Mexico is in on the drug trade and Mexican Cartels are entrenched in every major city in the USA. STOP illegal immigration and stop drug trafficking it is the same highway that lets them both in to OUR country.

Re: “Broadmoor makes move on city reservoir

Once again an entity of the city of Colorado Springs is in secret negotiations with the Broadmoor. Why would the city want to sell its water rights to the Broadmoor? Selling to another public utility? Yes. Selling to a private individual? No. If Bob Issac hadn't pushed in 1979 for incorporating the Broadmoor into the city and purchasing Rosemont from the Broadmoor, would we be having this conversation? If Anschutz gets his way will CSU sever service to the Broadmoor? Why continue it?

Is CSU following the philosophy of Parks & Recreation? If CSU can't maintain Rosemont get rid of it? What do the rate payers get out of this deal? Shouldn't it be up to the ratepayers to decide to sell "their" assets? "When you need to sell assets, whether a individual, family, business, or government, you're in deep financial trouble." Does $2.5B qualify for "Deep financial trouble."

But let's cut to the quik. Sell the entire city to Anschutz since he's already nickel and diming the city administration, kicking Anschutz up a couple of notches of the "What individuals can own more land" category. The city government can be disolved and the city renamed Colorado Springs brought to you the Broadmoor, an wholly owned subsidiary of the Anschutz corporation. The city's perimeter can be fenced negating anymore fencing being built by the Broadmoor. Filling potholes and repairing bridges would not be high on his priorities.

The pesky city charter can be dispensed with along with mayor, city council, and staff. The police and fire departments can be contacted out. An Anschutz board can be appointed to oversee the daily operations. No more self-aggrandizement committees on what they think the city should be.

What would be upside of selling the city to Anschutz? No property and sales taxes because there would be NO city government. Anschutz can impose his morally bankrupt economic and political philosophy on those who are left. He wants a libertarian life style. Now's his chance. After a few years he can join the economic/political successes of Kansas, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

This guy Tannim is either a really old crank or a 12 year old himself. The level of immaturity in his comments should embarrass him/her. I mean, "Hazy-hurts?"

Re: “Commentary: CSPD operates under a veil of mystery

The his whole debacle of the use of taxpayer funds to bankroll police abuse cases is part of the problem nation wide today. The city should not have paid for this obvious case of abuse. The officer should have paid, and his supervisors should have paid. And the remainder of funds should have come out of their pensions. We need to end the police union protection of the bad police by ending police unions and reinforcing the Public Service aspect of policing, not the self serving, "protect the police at all costs" attitude that prevails in some communities today. That must end.
