Re: “At Springs rally, proud 'deplorables' confident in their losing candidate's prospects

Re: “At Springs rally, proud 'deplorables' confident in their losing candidate's prospects

Mr K, your thanks for my service is welcome. Not always do I respond that way, because the phrase has become so reflexive as of late.

I can recognize by the sound of their rotors every helicopter we saw: OH13, OH6 (I flew in and sometimes even flew both), Huey (hundreds of air miles logged and I didn't even have a credit card), Chinook (the workhorse that moved our personnel and supplies),CH54 (the Skycrane that moved our guns around the Highlands), and of course the Cobra we all watched in awe. Also, the F4 Phantom, whose eerie whine when using air brakes in a maneuver is still distinctive, the C130 Hercules that carried me around the country occasionally, and finally to Cam Rahn Bay so I could go home. All of those sounds elicit discomfort still.

Thank you for your genuine support.

Donald T Rump, Billy may not have taken him down, but he did at least start the ball rolling. And everyone knows that crap rolls downhill! Looks like it's picking up speed.

And especially for Mr. Miller: You post using your real name because you still have political aspirations...aspirations because you are so convinced you are right. This is free name placement for you, but I'm not sure how far it will go if yu sort a Breitbart tee around. Remember - "Honey badger don't give a shit"...and eventually that sticks to you since that's really all Steve Bannon is about. If those are your principles, and if that mirrors your philosophy then you will get what you deserve.

Me? I'm gratefully isolated in my own little reality with my grapes and apples, my hemp (not marijuana, though I do partake), my wind, solar natgas aspirations, and my delightful opportunity to keep poking at you guys. The biggest thing I've learned is that most folks on here take themselves far too seriously. Lighten up and tell some stories that show you actually relate to the stories you comment on. C'mon, y'all!

Looks like the Trumpster will be taken down by a Bush after all. Billy Bush is George H.W. Bush's nephew and George W's and Jeb's first cousin.

Allow me to thank you for your service, Vietnamized, and to encourage you to keep on posting without holding back. I had a friend in Atlanta who was a Vietnam vet and a poet. The final lines of one of his poems will always haunt me, "Whenever I see a helicopter I expect it to explode."

Re: “Sallie Clark's next horizon — governor?

Having been absent from Colorado and the Springs for the majority of her tenure I don't know what she has actually been a part of...but in looking at the county and city infrastructures, the problems with water, Fountain Creek, etc, then maybe retirement would be best for all.

And just how do you think, or suspect (or whatever it is you call your thought process) that Sharia law is coming to a nice little, well-armed, rabidly evangelical burg like Colorado Springs, bobo?

Re: “At Springs rally, proud 'deplorables' confident in their losing candidate's prospects

Mr K, you are spot on in both posts, albeit, the status of troops agreement was more like closing the barn door after the cows got out. I was so shaken by Colin Powell's UN speech that I dipped into another deep depression, culminating with a breakdown after the invasion. I sought help at the VA and was fortunate enough to find a psychiatrist who had flown in and out of my Area of Operations in Vietnam and understood exactly what I was going through. He recommended venting my feelings through newspapers, and vent I did. It was very cathartic.

The Kurds would have been extremely happy to have us remain there. They were our first allies in the fight, and have remained so. As far as partitioning is concerned, we never should have participated in the divisions of Iran, Iraq and Kurdistan in the 1920's, but the siren song of oil wealth overcame common sense abut sovereignty, and they rest, as they say, is history.

Thank you for recognizing that I might occasionally say something of substance, unlike some of the others on this venue. Trump's promise to replace Scalia with a Scalia clone doesn't represent change. Quack, quack, as Scalia would quip. Paul O'Neill, thankfully, was in that first big cabinet meet after Bush was inaugurated and later wrote of being told to make plans for war with Saddam Hussein, and the division of oil territories between the major oil cartel players.

History is a cruel mistress when applied with neutrality.

Happyfew, apparently you must have riled up some of the goobers...I hope they do crawl back in their holes and let the 21st century progress without their vitriol.

Re: “Few local GOP faithful are willing to say whether they support Trump

A lot of people are simply voting AGAINST a candidate, not FOR one. That is the only explanation why anyone would vote for people with such severe faults.

Re: “Few local GOP faithful are willing to say whether they support Trump

No, hipdude, I'm still working, still upright, still contributing something other than vitriol. This forum has been fully one sided for quite some time. I'm glad I can be entertaining. As one of my friends said, don't let the usual suspects bother you. I don't, and he also said keep posting. I will.

If nothing else, hippyhelper, you're true to form. I know change is difficult, but give it a try and contribute some solutions instead of middle-school pap.

Curious, I qualify as an entrepreneur, a small business owner, and a taxpayer. I let my objections to regulations be heard, I vote my conscience (and for the good of the country) and try to help folks help themselves. No free lunch (tanstafl, anyone). As far as government not creating jobs, I agree in part because legislated contractual improvements to our infrastructure creates jobs by the thousands, and when gov't is handcuffed or misguided by anti-tax policy that doesn't happen. Public/private partnerships in every sector of our society have worked for years and should be at work for us now but for TABOR.

You blame city officials for complicity with developers that short change the working public. We're in the midst of an important election cycle. Colorado Springs has the opportunity to make changes, but I don't see any coming on the near horizon. Apparently everyone is with satisfied with the status quo or apathetic because of the influence of money in politics. If the TaxedEnoughAlready folks are happy with the way things are things won't change, and the Republican control of the city gov't will remain unchallenged. If things aren't already far enough to the right for you, then run Joel Miller again. If that doesn't work you can't go much further right, so let the pendulum swing back toward the center, where most of us live. To support real change then vote money out of politics and corrupt politicians out of office.

Vietnamized: Ya got me! Auto-correct got the better of me. Well, actually Mr.K-- spotted the error, and you just regurgitated his comment.

Jealous of what? Is it the heroic way you are changing the world through your sheeple like ramblings on an internet forum? Maybe it's the way you face gender confusion head on with such courage? Maybe its that full head of hair and sparkling teeth, and the way they make you look so pretty?

My resume? Are you trying to hire me? If you need a home caregiver to change your bed pan, contact the V.A., I have all the work I can handle.

Re: “Anyone but Trump

Thanks Laura. This is one very important crappy behavior of Trump. Match that with him knowing more than the generals about ISIS, widespread deportation and anti-Planned Parenthood/abortion stance. I have already submitted my ballot and voted for Hillary. And LONG LIVE RBG!

When you mention Trump and the Supreme Court, Vietnamized, it suddenly hit me that the so-called candidate of change promises to replace the late Justice Scalia with an exact duplicate copy!

Re: “At Springs rally, proud 'deplorables' confident in their losing candidate's prospects

I disagree with the "Status of Troops Agreement" approach to securing Iraq after our disastrous conquest. We should never have invaded in the first place, but once we did, the only correct solution would have been to partition Iraq, creating separate Sunni, Shia, and Kurdish nations. The Kurds, I believe, would have been pleased to let American troops remain behind on their territory.

Re: “Few local GOP faithful are willing to say whether they support Trump

hippyhelper, you're jealous! Do you have a resume? I'd like to see it. After your use of antidote instead of anecdote I'd like to see your high school diploma, too.

Look - I was attacked by posters who doubted my military service, my work qualifications, my patriotism, even my gender. I defend myself when necessary. As far as the comb over, I still have all my hair and teeth.

You can sit in judgement of me if you choose, but I haven't seen anything real or substantive from you yet. Keep on attacking me. It makes no difference at all.

Ballot will be in the mail on Monday, Joel. And by your use of words I can see I did get under your skin. I answered your gender questions long ago - you chose to ignore.

Curious, thanks for clearing up Mr. Miller's record. Things were going like that long before Mr. Miller was old enough to vote, yet the city just seems to keep on keeping on. I have seen it go from 25,000 residents to who knows how many now, seen the city limits expand, seen businesses come and go, with big box stores running the little guy out of the market.

I've been self-employed for most of my adult life. I'm comfortable with what I've accomplished, but I still fall short of my own expectations, and strive to do better. I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on wages over the last 45 years, and even in the 70's was paying labor $10/hr when market was about $5, and minimum was less than that. That's helping others achieve the American dream - hardly self-aggrandizing and narcissistic. I suppose I could retire, make some popcorn and sit back and watch the show - but where's the fun in that? I guess I could just quit and play golf every day, game would improve, but it would be totally self-serving. I choose to continue to try to make a difference, like Mr. Miller, but I do it differently.

Thanks for the edit, Mr. K...spelling and context are important!

Re: “At Springs rally, proud 'deplorables' confident in their losing candidate's prospects

Trump argues that voting for him would elicit change. If the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch are still split, and the Judicial Branch remains the same - controlling the Supreme Court 5-4, there will be no change whatsoever. The economic disaster that resulted from the Iraq/Afghanistan Bush fiasco was a result of a Republican Congress rubber-stamping every debt ceiling vote. Halliburton's stock (and Dick Cheney's golden parachute) climbed out of the toilet with KBR's no-bid contracts and big oil sales to the DOD. Had the Bush Administration be competent enough to negotiate a "Status of Troops Agreement" with the new Iraqi gov't then there would not have been a void in Iraq...but better still would have been to understand the dynamics of the region before upsetting the balance of power and handing the country through a democratic election to the 75% Shia majority and essentially aligning them with Iran. To blame the Obama Administration for ISIL and the problems in Iraq are totally disingenuous and lacks any foundation in reality.

In looking at the Steve Bannon/Alex Jones crowd, the Alt-Right nut cases, the White Supremacy and David Duke types, in hearing the "lock her up" chants, and seeing he "Hillary for Prison" stickers I can only hope that the majority of voters will reject this group of un-American thugs and boors and send this reality show "star" back to his casinos...provided they haven't all gone bankrupt.
