Re: “Noted: Sheriff sued by ACLU

Re: Rally opposes strong mayer Uh...aren't fiscal problems usually the result of bad management? And isn't our Mayor already in bed with developers?

Re: “Noted: Sheriff sued by ACLU

Does anyone realize that Bob Balink was Treasurer at Grace Episcopal Church when the Rev. Donald Armstrong was charged with using church funds for his own personal use (as in embezzlement)? The Armstrong case, by the way, has not yet gone to trial. And now Balink is running for city Treasurer. What's wrong with this picture?

When the hyper pro-military EDC and Chamber remain neutral on a proposed military expansion, you know it's a bad idea.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

If I went in and applied for a postion in the jail and told them that I was pending several charges in anouther county to include waving a gun at officers I would be laughed at and kick out onto the street. He should still be suspended and if he is found not guilty then lift it. Untill that time he should not be workingfo EPSO at all. I would even be in favor of suspended with pay in this case. All deserve a day in court but if your actions are questionable then you should not be working in a jail. Maketa needs to wash his hands and drop this guy befor he drags him down with him.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

The fact that the Douglas County DA didn't want to plead down Day's case leads me to believe that he WILL do prison time. I don't think the "temporary insanity" plea is going to fly among intelligent (or at least halfway intelligent) jurors. And frankly, I hope he DOES do prison time. Otherwise, we'll have anarchy. (slight exaggeration there)

Re: “Noted: County still looking for bat rescuers

By the way has the health department posted signs or warnings or reverse phone calls or anything having to do with the couple who possibly may have rabies?

Re: “Noted: County still looking for bat rescuers

You guys should stop complaining cuz one the health care we have now isnt as good as it was supposed to be. also the law has just been signed give it a try u guys are too hard on democrats they went to college and we voted for most of these people.so if u want to say u have the right to choose tell that to ur congress men or state official. as for obama people are just tryin to make it look like america made a mistake he has done things to help us and we had a full 8 years of a terrible president and i will be so as happy as ever when a obama fixes bush's mistakes. You can find full medical coverage at the lowest price from http://bit.ly/9fDY7U . obama has to put up with the world judging his every move and trying to fix the mess we are in we are lucky anyone wants to be our president. STOP COMPLAINING AND GIVE HIM A BREAK. i wanna see one of yall do what he has done. some people are just so ignorant.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

So now I also wonder if all DUI cases, or all eluding cases, are going to try the "insanity" plea... and it might just work. Jeez occifer, I'm temporarily insane due to the copious amount of alcohol and/or drugs I ingested. I can't possibly be responsible for my actions after that.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

Yeahbaby...why is my day coming, toots? Because I had the audacity to make a comment that actually makes some sense? If YOU were a jail inmate, would you want a guy watching over you who waved guns at other law enforcement officers, led them on a high speed chase, and now says he is insane? I think you've got it wrong. I think HIS day is coming!

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

I know Jerald "Jerry" Day and I think he is a piece of s@!#. I'm all for innocent until proven guilty but the fact is he pointed a weapon at cops. He's lucky he wasn't shot dead. Even more amazing than Jerry acting the fool is Maketa hiring him as civilian in the jail. I don't know how anyone could get a position in law enforcement with pending felony charges. Maketa needs to get a clue. I hope Day goes down and spends many years in prison where he belongs.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

Robert M: He hasn't stood trial yet, so saying all he got was a slap on the wrist is not correct since he hasn't been punished. He did lose his deputy job and was rehired as a civilian in the jail, meaning he does not carry a gun.

For the record, I am a Maketa supporter. But, Day should not be employed by the S.O now that he has now submitted an insanity defense. Now I'm sure it is probably a temporary insanity based on the situation at the time, but it still quite apparent he has no place in law enforcement. I am a true believer in innocent until proven guilty and supported his employment until this defense. It is time for the sheriff to put this issue behind him and move on to the important work of keeping the jail safe and enforcing the law in El Paso County.

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

hmm..seems yeahbaby doesn't like parkview1949s comment. Its true.. if you are "insane" then why the he** are you working at the jail for your buddy?? I wish i had friends in high places like that. This is the kind of stuff that pisses me off. You do something so stupid and as a cop.. but yet you just get kicked off the force and hired at the jail as a civilian.. there is something wrong with this picture. He should have done hard time for those crimes but all he gets is a slap on the hand. Makes you wounder about the cops who are suppose to protect you doesnt it? How do you know your cops aren't "INSANE" like this one?

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

I find it extremely amusing that a "self-proclaimed" insane person was hired by and is still working for his buddy in the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Bet the guy gets off for his charges, and I bet he stays employed by Terry Maketa.

Posted by COnative59 on 08/19/2010 at 1:25 PM

Re: “Noted: Jerald Day pleads insanity

So if Jerald Day is "insane," why would Sheriff Maketa keep him employed at the jail? Interesting that Maketa was "unavailable for comment" on this one.

Re: “Noted: Overdue tax fees lessened

Wow. What a completely inappropriate place to express someone owing you money. My son just got done with treatment at Peak Addiction Recovery Center, and I can say that the process saved his life. If he did, however, drop out of treatment, I don't think any of us would have expected any money back. That, on top of the fact that McKelvey runs a treatment facility that SHOULD cost twice as much as it does, makes you appear to be a jerk. With that being said, knowing Michael McKelvey - I bet you have your money back. Really, don;t be a jerk. Don't blame the guy saving lives, take a look in the mirror - I know I had to.

So.... another of balink's tricks to rob the people of their Democratic right to vote.

Anyone that thinks Wayne Williams would be any less of a fascist is stupid.

Re: “Noted: Update on Marigold

Mr Salsman I do not know where you get your facts but the military is what is keeping this city a float and to stop more from coming in is absolutely rediculous. The taxes and sales revenue that comes from the soldiers and thier families is actually supporting this town not draining it. I would think twice about fighting it.

Re: “Noted: Humane Society gets new woman CEO

This lady is not just a victim of San Francisco cluelessness, though it was definitely clueless of SFSPCA to have hired her in the first place.
Out of all people, SFSPCA picked someone out of a shelter in BOULDER.They had about three cats there recently. There is not a huge pit/chi let alone feral cat population in Boulder. I would bet few in Boulder even know what a feral cat is.
Pluses: Jan shared the vision of no-kill, open-door and Kate Spade leashes at retail. Minus: She didn't get how different San Francisco actually is.
She's from Boulder, after all. Looks like Boulder/Fairview around 1980, but I don't know her. That she states that she's saying she's "coming home" and to Colorado Springs and not Boulder, well, there is a difference.
During her probationary--or at least before CS pays her whatever bonus-- I hope Pikes Peak requires her to spend an afternoon or several running around with euth-certified staff.
Good luck.
