I am a registered Democrat and I have to say that I WILL be voting for Terry Maketa for sheriff once again. I am happy to say that I support a man that is bipartisan when it comes to social services. What other Republican cares about the homeless? Seriously, who?? This is a sheriff that actually serves and cares for all of his residents in El Paso county, whether they have a home or not. He has shown compassion where the city shows none to those that have camped out along our creeks and roam our streets with no where to go. I am sick of the media twisting the facts to meet their own agenda. Leave him alone and let him continue to do a great job. And to the reporters that make up these lies and twist the fact; ever heard of karma?
I've heard way too many things from way too many sources about Maketa. I hope someone in the know will offer to take a polygraph test and get the man out of office.
Make no mistake, the predictable sequence of events for any of these comments is in fact more threats and intimidation and the abuse of the Internal Affairs mechanism to protect the outrageous conduct of a chosen few in the circle of trust! The age old tactic of redirecting the focus of what the real the real problem is to one that is contrived to make those who are a threat become the bad guy is in full use here.
The primary line of questioning is easy to predict, "who did you talk to about this internal case, and who is making these claims about the Sheriff or those employees he continues to protect (because in reality this line of questioning is about protecting him)?" Given the latest opinions of the SO's legal counsel concerning conduct pertaining to Ms. Huntz and the Sevenes, it should interesting to see how they justify those type of interviews.
Maybe the best way to end this debate is for someone to take up the Sheriff's poly challenge, go to the DA's Office, provide them with what they know and ask to have them arrange that polygraph to support the veracity of the information they provided.
To Sheriff Maketa, I would like to thank you for a job well done and truely look forward to your upcoming victory. You have done a great job in a time when the budget was to thin to breath. I know you have a few people on here who choose to fabricate tales and try to slander your and others names. This is just an attempt to give there side some supporters, we all know that is the only thing they can do because you have proof that you know how to run our county. Please keep your head up as these people say anything they can think of to discredit you. It will not work because we know that what you do is Great Work! Keep strong and we will see you proud on election day!
The thing that's so ridiculous is that Terry Maketa is absolutely nothing special. Totally unremarkable. If he was some everyday shlep on the street, NOBODY would give him a second look, let alone the time of day. But because he's in a position of power as Sheriff, he has women clamoring over him when he makes advances and he has obviously taken great advantage of that. It's abuse of power, not to mention completely unethical behavior. But the amazing part is nobody would give this dude the time of day if he wasn't the Sheriff. Does he not realize this? When he's out of office, and he will be, he's going to have to face the immature and damaging decisions he's made in his life head-on and hope that his family will forgive him. Good luck with that, Sheriff.
I'm guessing he was with PP. Many deputies and detectives know something with her so-called robbery at her house was awfully fishy!
Can anyone say how Maketa letting Sevene off the hook with the penis in a hot dog bun fiasco is an example of great leadership? Are you kidding me? There's nothing that doesn't go on that Terry doesn't know about and by not demoting Sevene, Maketa has effectively CONDONED this behavior! I would love to know if the public is okay with this?
Juno, 1520Oneida, Nikki's Way, GA, MS, KA, TM, MR, AH, GC, JV, RD, BL, and Sgt K, and all the others need to come forward with any and all information they have regarding misconduct, departing from the truth, abuse of power, and violation of policy and/or law. You don't have to give your name up right away - just give the info to PZ and let it lead her to where it goes.
All this talk is fine, Juno, but if you know something to be a fact, why aren't you willing to talk to Ms. Zubeck and tell her what you know? It seems that many people on this comment page say they know something for sure, but nobody is willing to come forward to publicly state it. As long as people remain silent all these stories continue to be nothing but rumors, and Maketa knows it and continues with his antics as Sheriff. I'm just saying...
So 1520,
How about those with direct knowledge stepping up and doing the right thing and put the speculation to rest, take the Sheriff up on his poly offer and let the chips fall where the may.
So Juno...quit beating around the bush. If you're going to allude to it, say it. Who WAS he with?
1520,
A good question for Terry during the interview could have been, " So Sheriff Maketa, was that you and your wife having those regular lunch hour/early afternoon rendezvous in the upper parking lot of Goose Gossage Park, you know the ones with the Tahoe to Tahoe nuzzled up next to each other, or was that a special super secret staff meeting taking place? Take a poly on that one Terrible Terry! Heck if you need a specific date in January to jog what seems to be your forgetful memory as to when you were last; I bet it could be provided to you. And Terrible Terry, if you are looking to throw that poly challenge out there to refute what we both know to be the truth, look no farther than your own command staff, they know you were there and who you were with.
The SO HONESTY, LOYALTY, UNITY is a pile of pooh! the back office politics will and has personally killed any pasion one may have to be a deputy. The only safe zone is the Good ol' boys club and the fees to get in are not worth the sacrafice of true ingerity. Internal Affairs hae the least amount of morals to judge anyone else.
I thought it was interesting that he brought his wife to the studio when he was on KRDO radio this morning on the Mike Lewis/Lee Richards show. She never said one word, but it was mentioned that she was there. Do you think it was to avoid being asked questions about his relationships with other women in the SO?
In reference to Maketa and Sevene; this conduct is disgusting! Why aren't these deputies and Sgts being held accountable for their behavior and conduct when it's obvious that it doesn't represent the sheriff's office in a favorable light? When is Charles Greenlee going to explain how the behavior and gross misconduct of county employees who are paid by taxpayer funds is not the public's business? I believe it is the public's business and if these people - accuser or accused - are too embarassed by the situation, they shouldn't have been involved with it to begin with.
Just another example of why Maketa should find another job. I don't think Colorado Springs or El Paso County needs someone like him or his complete lack of leadership or morals or honesty. This guys is a blight on this city and county and the public needs to step up and say ENOUGH of this GARBAGE!
And why hasn't Doreen Cardarelle been to work since this story was publicized? How do the citizens feel about their tax dollars being used to DOUBLE the salary in less than 3 years of a woman who doesn't seem qualified for her job and is only being paid that amount of money because 1) she oversees the budget and 2) she's alledgely involved in an inappropriate relationship w/the Sheriff???
Reference your piece on Sevene; no secret that the good Sergeant's most recent IA had to do with him having direct knowledge that a photo of a deputy's penis (strategically placed in a hot-dog bun no less) was being distributed and shown to SO personnel, to include those who worked for him. No reason not to believe that some of those SO personnel were females. It is apparent that the Sheriff has zero problem with those in supervisory positions conducting themselves in a manner that is better suited for college frat boys and "Girls Gone Wild" than professional law enforcement officers.
The fact that County Commissioners haven't taken any action in attempting to wade through the conduct issue that have come to light speak volumes about how they are in a cozy don't ask don't tell relationship with Terry Maketa.
Rest assured that unless you're in Terrible Terry's circle of trust, you can expect to take the full brunt of his wrath and made an example of if you stray ever so slightly off the path.
When Medical Marijuana is legal in all 50 States and the scientists have an opportunity to really observe its highly beneficial effect on the wide variety of medical conditions, we will be incredulous that it took so long to admit the obvious, that the resistance to the Truth was so fierce...
Oh, well, the resistance to a discovery that the Earth was not flat was fierce too, but it had to end at some point. To even say that marijuana does not have medicinal value is the same as to say that the Earth is flat... Think about it!
Well, our crack CS Utilities is getting ready to give large water users a discount. But give a discount to the rest of us?? Heavens, No! Not even if you have a plan to reduce your consumption, which all of the small users have already done so successfully around here. You don't get a discount, you evil water savers. I hope the Broadmoor Hotel enjoys the discount, so the championship Insurance Agents from Connecticut can have a good round of golf during their convention, and at the expense of the little guy around here. If anyone of the crack City Council gets the urge to fire the senior management at CSU, please don't hold back.
Michael McKelvey still owes me $1500-$1700. You have gone back on your word. Included is an email from Michael McKeley stating in Dec of 2009 that a check was on it's way. After numerous emails that were never returned and calls not returned, it is now Feb 6, 2010. My son is now in another faciltity. We have no more money to pay for an additonal month. If we recieved our money back we could keep him there for 30 more days. Shame on an oranization that claims to be there for people. Only if you have cash.

Diane,
I sincerely apologize – I have, several times, assigned your questions and concerns to one of our counselors. I was under the impression that your calls and emails were being handled. I am exceptionally sorry that they were, in fact, not handled. Clearly, I have some issues on my end that need to be corrected.
Nonetheless, all refunds over $1,000 have to be approved by myself and one board member. I have you on the agenda to get approval on your refund during our next board meeting; on the 9th of December. I am waiting on an itemized cost for Andrew’s suboxone from our pharmacy; but I am anticipating $2200 refund, less suboxone cost. I will have an answer after the 9th, and will be cutting checks on the 15th – or I can hand-write a check earlier – on the 10th, if that makes things easier.
Does this sounds like a scenario that is acceptable to you?

Mr Bartolin referred to Councilor Sean Paige as overseeing District 2 when actually Councilman Paige represents the well diversified District 3.
Hello,
Loved the article about the homless. Thank you for bringing that to light. We all could end up there one day. Most of us are one paycheck away from homelessness. Help your fellow brothers and sisters and pets. My idea is to use LOTTO and POWERBALL dollars (I think we have enough parks) to help fund some sort of tent city that has bathroom/showers. Have the people living there have to pitch in to keep it clean on a rotational basis. If not you LEAVE!! Have people that have to do community service clean the parks. That saves that money for a better use. I think everyone should visit the dignityvillage.org website. There must be something we can all do. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!! Blessings to us all. HM C/S CO
Re: “Noted: Maketa saves sergeant from demotion”
In response to the writer "MyVote" below. Most of the almost 200 comments posted are from employees of the Sheriff's Office that are "in the know." This is an election year. This is the time to point out problems within the organization. I think it's great that the S.O. has a balanced buget. But that is not a good reason to support a man who has displayed bias mangement and abuse of power with a lack of integrity. It's pretty obvious that only a few care about the employees that wear a badge with the words Honesty, INTEGRITY and Unity printed on it. Some of us expect and desire this from the CEO of our oganization. We will fight for change. We desire new leadership. There is no mention of anyone in particular. Todd Evans and Jake Shirk were the two that jumped in when the Sheriff announced that he would not run. If we get another challenger on the Independant or Democratic side then so be it. This is a grass roots effort to get the word out that we want a leader. Not a self serving Sheriff that's never seen a patrol briefing or made any effort to personally speak to his troops. All... Please talk to your friends and family. Anyone who is or knows a delegate to demand some competition on the ballet. Let the people of El Paso County have the choice. Not just one man running alone.
