Sarah Pali....I mean Lisa CVZXZWEVZXZXAJKTDO
Thanks for the long rambling note. I hope I am indeed alive and well in four years. ONE year would be nice. Anyway, thanks for your insight. You should have gotten involved in local politics.
"From an actual letter to the state economic commission:" Really? You have seen actual letters and/or emails sent to the EDC? Regardless, agree that Bruce Jenner doesn't have the appeal of Garbo, Dietrich, Keaton, etal, to whom no shrines have been built.
During the blitzkrieg campaign unfolding to sell the wobbly benefits of building a stadium/museum complex, benefits that include putting COS on the road to duplicate the success of Oklahoma City, a city that just like COS had the empowering vision to build a stadium. Or was the success of OKC due to the obvious - that city's embrace of energy - not wind farms but OIL - and the revenue and prosperity for all that followed hard upon.
Our mayor says he wants the approval of the people, the very people who will be paying $350M and then some to build and maintain C4C for the next 30 years. City council is an important player in the decision making process. Let your opinion regarding C4C be heard. Contact them at email@example.com
"into something different. Frankly, anything different." Words that can be applied to why COS local government changed to a Mayor-Council form of government. Residents wanted any type of change for the City and approved a ballot measure despite the charter having numerous errors and being unclear on responsibilities between the executive and legislative branches. I think if you read the report and really listen to their comments, EDC gave COS the money in order for our City to recover. Despite having both a 3rd party economic analyst and EDC staff recommending lower amounts, as well as some of the official application criteria not being met, they approved the full amount. Why? Fire, flooding, and being the only City to apply got Colorado Springs that money. It wasnt who wrote letters, or traveled on a bus thru a wintery storm, or who even sang for some dollars. COS has a chance to make some monumental changes for the City and Im excited to see a fire lit in this City to improve it's situation. It's reminds me the deal my hubby and I made with our teenager. "If you get all A's and B's, only then you can have a phone." The offer and opportunity are there for COS but action still needs to be taken. Rich, if you are still alive nor senile in 5 years, hopefully you will be writing on the completion and successes of the 4 projects. The real work of planning, funding, and community conversations begin now.
I don't think we should be using city bonds or local tax funds to build facilities for the state university or federal government.
Buddy Buck- be careful of what you wish for. A poor plan is just that. Missy Palin once said the same thing about lipstick on a pig. In summary, I support any plan that might lead to any transformation of our village from a 1980s enclave of lousy jobs, Jesus nuts and gun loonies into something different. But Frank, if that's your real name, anything different is like the Colorado Springs no-name soccer team winning the world cup. I know, I know, it will produce 867 jobs. That's a hell of a mark up for $250 million. Why don't we just sell our own Mega Colorado Springs Lottery tickets. With 1 in 259 million odds, why we could pay for this entire City for Champions thing.
For I see now a day when we stride into our new Olympic museum and empty stadium, and see, right there in front of us, Jenkins' varsity shirt, Bruce Kardasian's purse and the signed letter from DeBachel stating "I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing". Don't forget Duck Dynasty Day at the stadium..brought to you by Bass Pro...
With what is known to date, are you inclined to vote to approve funding for C4C?
(With or without Jesse's socks) A quick and easy one question poll:
Money spent watering parks will do more to avert crime than the gang who can't shoot straight can...
shhesh, somebody got up on the grumpy side of the bed.
The sad thing is this is all true about our local newspaper.
The staff is mostly made up of interns from Palmer High School who simply sit around listening to the police scanner, and write paragraphs ending with "updates to follow"...which they never do because the paper can't afford any reporters to do the follow up.
Most of the staff is involved in sitting at King Soopers trying to give away copies of the paper which most people refuse, except occasionally those will use them to sleep on around the corner later that night.
Their inaccuracies in stories and the failure of anyone on whom they report to recognize themselves or the events in the articles is legendary...the names are made public but the stories are changed to assure the arrest of the innocent.
Rich, you write humor but your family pieces are the best. Thanks for sharing...your dad sets a high standard.
I saw my father go the same way.
Nothing can prepare you for seeing the person you love the most in this world, who was so strong and so smart, reduced by dementia.
I'm so sorry for all involved. Bless you all.
Eyes welled-up. So very well-written, Rich. My utmost to you and your family.
You have a special dad. Tell him we all said hello and that we love his son's work.
This is just how out of touch Mayor Bach is with what is happening in this town. No $15 an hour job industry that he promised, families on food stamps cause they make less than $12 an hour without benefits, many working two part time jobs at under $10 and hour, and the rents in this past year have increased by $200-$300 A MONTH! This is reality, not saying your going to end homelessness when may are not even homeless and still can't make it in CS's economy!
Mikey Weinstein is fighting in one of the only wars worth fighting in right now. The war against fundamentalist religious crackpots! The a-holes in the Middle East won't have to defeat us because fundamentalist Christians are beating them to the punch and destroying us from right here at home.
"Wars not make one great." - Yoda
According to you, TejonTech, Mr. Tosches was NOT smoking weed when he wrote this column. In other words, he was clear-headed and focused. I am going to go way out on a limb here and guess that is not the impression you meant to convey.
Your psychobabble "analysis" of Mr. Weinstein is equally confused and befuddled. Mickey Weinstein has been called to his mission by his faith in God--the God of Abraham, the God of Moses, the God of the Jewish people, the Creator of the Universe. Unlike some people, Weinstein does not wear his religion on his sleeve, so you might have missed it, but if you have missed it you are not alone.
Rich is a breath of fresh air in this smug, stuffy town.
Rich, you need to renew your MMJ prescription before writing another column...
Nice to know that Mickey graduated in '77, meaning he never fought in a war and never knew the need for God. No wonder he is always going for the small potatoes, his career and life have been void of more important things.
Little does anyone know, Matt starts his rape trial 11/4/2013 for the 12/24/2011 rape in which DNA pointed to him. His younger brother is also facing trial for sexual assault and his younger sister has been accused of retaliation of a victim. Oops!
Well said. The marijuana industry brought more than $1MM in tax revenue to our "village" last year. This year, instead of continued industry growth, we will see more stores close as they fail to compete with the newly allowed A64 retail stores. Our mayor, instead of creating 7000 jobs as promised, just sent the only thriving new industry off to Denver.
