efcan, as far as that person still having all of his rights it is apparent that you don't get the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the obligation to follow orders of your superiors. When you raise your hand and swear to protect and defend the constitution the first thing you lose is your hair, and if you wind up in the wrong place you could lose your life. I'm a disabled vet - I had a right to live out a peaceful, healthy life, but Agent Orange has changed that, as well as numerous TBIs. I didn't have any choice, meaning my personal rights had been subverted by my military service. Think about this before shoot your mouth off.
efcan, your comparisons hardly rise to the level of a discussion of the separation of church and state. You can rant all you want about Coke vs Pepsi and Pilot vs Bic, but the fact remains that the individual who is supported (in part) by my taxes is working on my nickel and the Air Force made the wrong call...and has been making the wrong call for a couple of decades. Freedom of religion means the individual can make his own choices, but I don't have to see them. Somewhere in the bible it states that you should pray in the closet - the reasoning being that it is your personal, private connection with your god.
Now we're starting to get busy! Thanks, happy few, for joining the conversation. This once lovely city has already had one newspaper hijacked by the religious right and I really don't want to see it happen here, too. I challenge anyone to discuss their views with their reasoning and have a civil discourse that is fact based instead of emotionally charged. If we can talk about it civilly we can then at least agree to disagree and go forward with fixing the real problems together.
poor poor religious freaks, first they attack the forced celebration of x-mas and now they attack shoving a book of myths down everyone's throats. you just can't get a break... except on taxes... or all the slanted attention in the so called "war on religion"... or on the child molestations of your finest being transferred to a town near you instead of jail... or not being allowed to scream how intolerant and hostile you are without being rightfully chastised... or injecting your ignorance into politics with no penalty... or your fight against science that has dumbed down America. you morons should be persecuted for what you stand for... time will prove the fallacy of all religions!
No one. Ideas are non-scarce and therefore not subject to private ownership. "IP" is illegitimate property rights.
my husband required CA BOF 4546 this month and used a web service that hosts an online forms library . If people need CA BOF 4546 too , here's a http://goo.gl/ksSqGW.
Vietnamized 8/29: No. The person whose salary you (help) pay still has all his rights. Who paid for the desk is immaterial. (I helped pay for your highway. Do I get to dictate the kind of car you drive on it?) If you aren't forced to buy the Bible he has, you have no legitimate beef. He's not forcing or forbidding anyone else to do anything. If he writes with a Pilot pen, does that mean he's forbidding others to use a Bic? If you see a Coke on his desk, can you not still choose to drink a Pepsi, or water, or coffee--or nothing? Your reasoning is absurd! The Air Force made the right call this time.
"The money collected by the taxes would be used for a variety of programs including smoking cessation, medical research, mental health funding and other causes."
Government is making billions from the tobacco lawsuit alone so why the need for a tax increase? For others it is a wish to simply punish smokers and to cause a financial burden that most already suffer due to the ever failing economy (it is not a recession anymore, call it what it is: "over regulation").
So please tell me as this paper tends so often to leave many things out, what are "other causes"? List them please. Then expand on the "mental health funding" as well.
As a long time resident of this state I have seen it go from a place called "Colorado" to a Californicated piece of real estate full of outsiders that are full of bullshit.
And as with a "majority" type voting system a minority will lose and pay. This was not the intent of our former Republic as democracy is not an ideal system. Too bad we have public school systems to keep the people in the dark (stupid).
I love local food as much as the next guy, but instead of spending everyone's donated funds on "empty dreams" I really wish the CSPM would get something concrete before the next news conference, or newspaper announcement of their next location. I don't think the city is unsupportive of the idea, I think they're probably tired of hearing the "market" cry wolf. It's making a mockery of the concept and by the time they finally open the damn thing, everyone will already be burnt out on the idea, hell at this point it's already lost its allure, and it's never even come to fruition.
Mar Mar, when that bible is displayed publicly on a desk that I pay for by someone whose salary I pay that's promoting A religion with my money. No thanks. I can love my neighbor without any inspiration from the gov't.
I can't believe some of this garbage posted by the White P € N I S Party.
The religious freedom is ok. Nobody should feel offended by the presence of the Bible on a visible place.
However, if someone feels offended by seeing the bible is not promoting religious liberty, but hate. We all deserve to have a religious belief, especially if it is related to loving your neighbor and loving God. The same right rules for poor, rich, subordinate, boss, white, latin or whatever race you are. Bible is good. Remember those times when the bible was tought in schools... BACK THEN the worst crime at school was smoking at the bathroom.
Now Crime and hate rule... American people, Cant you see what you have lost? You have lost your children...!!
I still have Zoltan Malocsay 1991 classic "Trails Guide to Pikes Peak Country". It too was published locally. The maps are little outdated so you should consult other sources before heading out. However, the guide contains bits of local history and is a delight to read.
When Vietnamized wrote:
“…this country has always been something of a socialist democracy.” …
he reminded me that the first three words of the Constitution are: “We the People”, not “Me the Individual”, or “It the Corporation”.
Bernie reawakened many Americans to the spirit of the Founders and their desire to make America a “more perfect union”. He reminded us that the government they established is aspirational, not confrontational, inclusionary, not exclusionary, and exists to make all citizens’ lives better, not establish an environment for protecting expanded Capitalist exploitation. Yes, this is a Democratic Socialist Nation, founded during the enlightenment’s heightened awareness of the Social Responsibility we ALL share in expanding the Common Good.

How the hell he still have a job????
I helped sponsor Mr. Hightower to speak to the Democrats in Tom Green County, TX prior to the 2012 election - I'm a huge fan, and I think he's exactly right. Bernie 'spoke' to all of us when he belabored the system for being corrupt and rigged for the rich. I would have voted for him without reservation. Now we have to avoid a Trump presidency and there is no way I'm going to split the vote. What would our world be like if the new President was favored by Vladimir Putin, his puppet master Aleksandr Dugin and owes millions to the Chinese banking system.
I strongly agree with NewTom that Bernie has had a positive influence on the Democratic platform and I would remind other readers that this country has always been something of a socialist democracy. We all pay for common services and infrastructure...as long as some anti-tax, debt-addled sequestering fool doesn't shut the government down again (are you listening, Ted Cruz?)
That's a reassuring thought. He strongly influenced the platform's Hopefully we'll get a election results that will put the government back to work rather than obstructing every good idea
