Re: “Promise Lee on what's next for Hillside community

Thank you Patience for turning the dialogue on Black History Month inward and showing how we can build on history's accomplishments! Pastor Lee and others have built beautiful foundations in the Hillside neighborhood, look forward to seeing how the neighborhood continues to grow under such strong leadership.

Re: “Promise Lee on what's next for Hillside community

I am here to tell the world of the good works of Great Dr Kumar. My name is Don Vera and this testimony is worth sharing. My man left me and my kids for 14 months to suffer. It was not so easy for me. I contacted so many spell casters who scammed me of my money but nothing happened. I love my husband so much and i did not lose hope and i kept on trying until i met Great Dr Kumar how he has helped so many people. I contacted him and explained to him. He told me not to worry that he will bring back my man in 3 days time. He consulted his powers and assured me not to worry that he will bring back my man in 3 days time. He did his work and cast the spell and to my greatest surprise, my husband came the third day just as Great Dr Kumar said. He begged me for forgiveness and he promised never to leave me for any reason. We are happy and we live together as one. Contact Great Dr Kumar now on: Drkumartemple@yahoo.com and you can also contact him on his website:
https://drkumartemple.wixsite.com/dr-kumar Thank you sir for your help. THIS IS REAL AND NEVER A SCAM. SO BELIEVE HIM

Has anyone else noticed that the ones that have screamed the loudest about the rights of the people and institutions in this country for the last eight years. Are now the ones trying there hardest to shut everyone up but themselves.

Re: “Venetucci family member issues plea for farm

The Venetucci Farm has great historical value to the Colorado Springs area. Perhaps best known for their pumpkins and produce, the Venitucci farm contributed far more then vegetables to the community.
On July 13, 1942 the US government initiated a condemnation action to acquire 815 acres of land from the Venetuccis as part of a military camp that eventually became Fort Carson, for $10 per acre. The original acreage of the farm was 1020 acres. Following the sale of the 815 acres to the army (El Paso County assessors office. 1942) the farm was left with only 205 acres. The willingness of the family to support the building of camp Carson allowed the city to bring a military facility to the area bolstering the economy.
The Venitucci Family also owned very valuable water rights that supplemented their agricultural income. In November 1941, they drilled their first water wells: No. 1, No. 2, and No.3. The first filings of these wells were made with the state water engineer on May 1, 1945 (El Paso County assessors office 1930 6B reception number 206157933, book number 287, page 673 Warranty deed 915). Additional wells were drilled after that time. Other farmers in the area, seeing their success, began to also drill wells.
During the early 1950s, a serious drought situation developed along the Front Range. It became particularly serious in the pikes Pikes Peak Region during 1954. The Venetuccis entered a 10 year contract with the city of Colorado Springs, beginning August 2, 1954 to have water from their wells pumped to the city. Before the pipeline was completed the drought had become so bad that that Broadmoor's putting greens were drying up and the Broadmoor was on the verge of closing their doors. An agreement was made between the Venetuccis and the Broadmoor and in June 1954 and trucks hauled water from the farm to the Broadmoor until August 2 of 1954, keeping the Broadmoor open.
In addition, the Family donated a portion of their land to the Diocese of Colorado Springs for the construction of a Catholic Church. The farm was also dedicated by Colorado open lands as a conservation reserve for migratory birds and animals that have been pushed to the farm from surrounding areas due to encroaching development.
In 2003, Bambi and Dominic Venetucci decided that they wanted to keep the farm just the same as it was despite urban encroachment in the Security- Widefield area, and quietly contacted the local philanthropic organization in Colorado Springs known as the Pike's Peak community foundation to make an arrangement with them to take control of the farm. It was a lease arrangement which was to be in place for 99 years. Eventually the farm will be placed in a conservation easement, ensuring that the farm will be protected and remain a farm forever.
" The Venetucci Farm, preserved in perpetuity through the efforts of the Pikes Peak
Community Foundation, shall remain as a living legacy to the spirit and generosity of its
founders Nick and Bambi Venetucci. Established in the 1930s, the farm gained recognition for
giving away literally millions of homegrown pumpkins to school age children throughout
Colorado Springs. The pikes peak community foundation aspires to uphold this tradition, as
well as to offer educational experiences and agriculture and to create a rural setting for
community gatherings."
(Pikes Peak Community Foundation. 2007. The Mission of the Venetucci Farm).

I had the honor of researching the Venetucci farm for my graduate thesis at UCCS, Geography and Environmental Studies in 2007.
"The Family Farm as a Community Resource: A Case Study of The Venetucci Farm"
The above information is just a small portion of the contributions the Venetucci have provided to the Colorado Springs Area.

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

The letter writer is partly correct, as it is noticeable to long time readers that the Indy has recently become just another liberal crying towel instead of maintaining its longstanding position as the true representative of the fourth estate for this area. Perhaps it is time to consider changing the name of this publication, as "Independent" is now a misnomer.

Maybe someday this city will make police and fire the priority. The city is growing beyond the means of either Department. You get what you pay for! Don't complain when mistakes are made and crimes increase!

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

"Low Mentality People" sounds like the name of a nihilistic, teenage rock band.

I often find those who complain about the poor intelligence of those with whom they disagree, are projecting.

As Henry David Thoreau once wrote, people who get labeled as half-wits often have half again as much wit as their fellows, but the average person can only perceive one-third of it.

Re: “Bennet calls for deeper look at Trump's ties to Russia

A make-believe "participation trophy" is certainly more than anyone ever got from Trump University, but is it as prestigious as the "Order of Friendship" that Trump's pimp gave to our new Secretary of State for the invaluable services he rendered to the tyrannical Russian dictatorship?

Re: “CSPD hands a records headache to District Attorney's Office

CSPD is making Makita look more normal with gross misconduct (or worse), of their own. So they self-confess right before the INDY cuffed them...I think it's time for a real investigation to find out who is behind this and whether it is criminal or merely crass incompetence.

Re: “The apostle

This is wonderful! because we want God's kingdom to be a reality on the earth, Jesus Christ came to destroy the adversary works and he did it; so today as Christian we have been mandated by God through the finish works of Christ, to destroy demonic power in every culture and make all the nation the disciple of Jesus Christ for the glory of God; so thank you apostle Robert and all others Christian leaders who work in that way, I want to say that we are supporting this idea and we encourage you to go forward, I personally will pray for you and I also declare a spiritual warfare against God's purpose in my culture and every demonic power that will try to stand against God's kingdom on the earth will be broken down in Jesus Christ's name because he(Jesus) gave his life and he paid the prize so the victory has been won. thank you once again, God, bless you abundantly! we love you in the love of Christ.

Re: “Reader: The homeless issues aren't getting any better

Mr. Harvey,

Thank you for your letter regarding homelessness. I agree with you that homelessness is a problem and I am very sorry to hear that you have struggled with it in the past. I can only imagine the difficulties you must have faced. I have never been homeless myself, nor personally known a homeless person, but I have done what I could to help. I have donated many items to homeless shelter, bought meals for homeless people and families in need, and I have helped serve meals at the homeless shelter. I feel very blessed to be in a position to do what I can to help those in need.

While I see your point of view on homeless people needing safe places where they can shower, obtain clean clothes, hot meals, and sleep, not everybody is in a position to provide this. I understand and agree that lives matter more than money, but not everybody is going to be comfortable opening their homes to complete strangers. I do not think this makes them bad people or worthless. There are many other ways people can and do help.

For example, people can donate socks, gloves, clothes, coats or household items. People can donate their time to helping out at a homeless shelter or delivering needed items directly to the homeless. People can also start clothing drives or fundraisers to help homeless programs. While to some this may not seem like enough, to others, this is life changing. I encourage everybody to get out and do what they can to help the homeless population. A little bit can go a long way.

Thank you!

Mrs. Perry, Colorado Springs

Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

Mr. Slocum:

"Whatever happened to decency and common sense?"

I think your President discarded all that when he started his campaign. Don't look for it to make a return for at least 4 years. It' just not his style.

As for the resistance that you seem to abhor, ask yourself this question: What, exactly, has Mr. Trump done to bring all Americans into his MAGA plan?

I'll help you out here. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. And he won't be bothering to do so, since he is only concerned with his base. The rest of us are his enemies. And, as he has said himself, he crushes his enemies. He has no intention of uniting with anyone but his supporters.

Pardon my cynicism, but when the damage is piling up in DC, the Indy is doing a public service by tracking and documenting that damage for its readers. You need to adjust your tolerance for poop. DJT is feeding it to us daily.

An old man who lacks the vocabulary to make a point.
Back in 2008 the indy ran an article on Duane that he didn't trust government and now he doesn't want to hear about the lack of trusting the government.

I don't know why the Democrats are still upset about the election, as Hillary got the usual award for achievement in today's world, i.e., a participation trophy.

Connections with Russia? After watching yesterdays (Feb 16th) press conference, congress ought to examine Trump's connection with reality.
