That would be the Koch brothers' dark money group, citizens protecting our constitution - who are also heavily involved in citizens for self governance, which is busily passing legislation in over 30 states that will destroy the constitution. Which, for the record, includes such charmers as sean Hannity, glenn beck, rush Limbaugh, mike Huckabee and the queen of Alaska, who can see Russia from her front porch - sarah palin.
As a politician who is "supported by conservatives," Ms. Crow-Iverson needs to assure voters that she is not colluding with Vladimir Putin to smear her opposition.
For health care funding ask the State of Colorado since it receives a share of funds awarded in the Master Settlement Agreement from the lawsuit against tobacco companies. 1999 through 2016 Colorado received $1,599,012,220.77 total. This was to cover tobacco-related illness costs and education. Guess how much it actually is spent on tobacco related healthcare and education for those years? 23 million dollars and they are cutting that amount yearly. The total amount would cover just about everyone every year for health coverage would it not? But state governments are spending it elsewhere or selling their awards to security traders. This settlement will continue into perpetuity or until tobacco is no longer grown and sold.
Correct my figures if I read them wrong, that kind of money I cannot fathom, I live below poverty level. It is in the interest of the big spenders in every state's capitol to keep cigarettes sales going. They sure are not spending that money on healthcare but it is being spent. (They even charged the tobacco companies under RICO!)
When we hear the phrase "government funded" or "government backed" or "paid to the government" it is actually tax payers dollars. Government does not earn a dime but they can spend them and deny you and I anything they wish. They cannot "create jobs" either but they can eliminate them. It may be a blessing to not have a professional politician in The White House- after all, the Democrats and Republicans have been running the show for years and handpicking who gets to run... Guess what? They have screwed it up beyond belief. This president may have more in common with the common people than you know. (Obama went on and on about "it is time for common-sense laws". If he had a brain he would have realized that he was implying the laws they have been making were then nonsense. Or if his followers had a brain...) (nobody would pass a background check if our metal stability were to be measured as they have in essence driven all of us crazy)
God knows that since FDR the country has been in stranglehold that tightens more and more. Government created agencies that have done nothing but help tighten the noose need to be abolished. Meanwhile the propaganda machine has been fine-tuned and is so well oiled that many would be completely stupefied should they wake up and see the light. Nobody would or could run their own household the way government runs this country.
We live in the land of milk and honey they used to tell us, where we can be anything we desire. But something is terribly wrong in a society that uses "community service" as a punishment and punishes homeless people for begging- all in the name of "public safety". Standing on a median between opposing traffic lanes with painted sign asking for donations (milk and honey) is dangerous (you can't be that) yet standing in the street between two painted on white lines (a cross-walk) is totally safe?!
Land of the Free...
Jenkins and Anschutz own COS - what they want, they get. And the City has Jenkin's back. The article says: "RBD is in a situation where it can benefit the entire community by selling this property to Master Developer." Explain to me how the University Village Colorado shopping center on N. Nevada, across from UCCS property, benefitted the "entire community" and taxpayers when ALL the sales tax collected for 30 years goes to paying down the City's debt incurred to build UVC and NONE of the sales tax goes into the General Fund? The City's involvement in this enterprise was a great deal for the developer, but not for the City. And virtually all of the UVC tenants are national chains, a practice that is not supportive of Colorado businesses, and we can expect a "Master Developer" to bring in more chain restaurants and retail.
But Jenkins/Anschutz also want the appearance of legitimacy, and hence they buy and place their development supporters on the City council. Naysayers to developer's schemes to transfer the risk and costs of development to the taxpayers can expect to be tarred and feathered by editorials in the Anschutz owned Gazette, whose editorial board includes Anschutz's son.
Re the current election, I'm surprised that Gaebler is persona non grata with developers, particularly Nor'Wood/Jenkins, since she is on record saying that the BLR annexation agreement should be revised and taxpayers should bear millions of dollars of the infrastructure costs of Jenkin's BLR development, which is contradictory to the Judge's recent ruling that ALL infrastructure and other development costs were SOLELY the responsibility of the developer. It would be helpful for voters to hear from Gaebler as to how she as a Council member would vote on this issue.
It would save us all a lot of time if we disband City government altogether and just build Jenkins an office to direct his plans for the use City assets and revenue to benefit him and his company. Why participate in the charade that we have people representing us?
I know these comments were posted years ago but does anyone know if anything has changed? I'm currently watching a 18 month old severely disabled child who can't do anything for herself and probably never will. I feed her every 2 hours and each feeding takes 30 to 45 minutes because of swallowing and sucking issues. She also cries about 2 hours a day no matter how I try to soothe her! I recently found out her mom became a parent CNA to get paid to take care of her but definitely isn't passing it to me when I watch her. I watch her 25 to 30 hours a week for $3.75 an hour! My question is - does anyone know how much a parent CNA makes per hour in Colorado and what the guidelines are for how many hours per week/day you can get paid?
I still have to think that one of the greatest threats to our democracy is apathy. We talk (at least nationally) about voter suppression but then see low turnout.
Wow... this is very irresponsible journalism. If you could call it that. And an affront to privacy. While I get this is public information, the premise of "let's look at the millionaires who are running for council" and then to draw the conclusion "not many," but still put pictures of their homes up for all to see. Shameful.
No wonder it is difficult to convince good people to run for elected offices these days. Way to contribute to the filth Indy/Pam.
millionaires, alternative reality and fake news has invaded our local elections... I guess it worked for our grabber in chief...
As a Jew, an Israeli, a veteran and a firearms instructor, I'm surprised that I've never heard of Mel Bernstein. I'm glad to know of his existence and I wish he and his museum/business many more years of nachas and mazal.

What do you feel is the impact from the increase in 'negative' campaigning and mudslinging has on the public's propensity to vote in minor elections? What impact does it have on your vote? Please consider five minutes spent with us to explore this topic. An independent 'grass roots' poll. Thank you!
Is there nothing rich and privileged kids from CC can't do? All this philanthropy - thank goodness these charitable givers are investing in the right people- rich white CC kids. Great for our local community
The data on the chart above was at one point in time - the ballots received/scanned changes daily M-F. The data updates can be found:
so in reality, they don't support business, or freedom
A review of the Colorado Secretary of State's listing for Windhover Creative Partners LLC shows NO change in ownership or members - calling into question Wayne Laugesen's claim that he (and Scott Weiser) "left" the organization.
Perhaps Wayne and Dede could release the tax records for their business?
They certainly have not had any problem asking that of others.

Being a 'political consultant' must be similar to being a defense attorney. Somebody has to do it and if you are good - you make great money. Which is the bottom line of politics.
Lying to people to win campaigns is not an attribute of a great person. Sorry. Schoolyard taunts? Why don't you read some of the libel put out by this "great person" and how she and the people that pay her have no issue destroying lives in order to get a few more votes. Sounds to me like she got caught committing a misdemeanor. Imagine if an opponent of one of her clients had a hint of a traffic infraction what Ms. Jack would manipulate that into!
Mr. Miller, Have to respond. Sarah Jack is indeed a political consultant . . . and a great person that gives her time and energy to making our community better. Sorry you took the next step down for local political discourse by calling names like this is some schoolyard taunt.
Good reporting. I've studied that truncated report and would add that the fact that it took 18 months to release anything is part of the deception. Slow walking the release of information is a strategy all by itself. Dozens of pages totally blank. Blacked out sections throughout. They operate on tax payer money and are obligated to more transparency. Reading closely one realizes there could have been an inferno if the fuel tanks hand been punctured. Currently Fort Carson is in the process of seeking more helicopter landing zones on both United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands in our nearby mountains. It's only a matter of time before their antics set off a really big forest fire. Meanwhile their daily intrusions into that airspace continue to impact the serenity of our mountain landscapes.
