Re: “District looking for answers after failure of bond, MLO

The district might not think that an extra $100-$200 a year in property taxes is a big deal, but to many people it is, especially considering that insurance, utility bills, phone bills, cable rates, etc., are also on the rise. It was also a bad idea to think that people would swallow the whole $235 million pill all at once, especially since it was possible to look at the districts spending plan for it and see items that simply didn't seem that critical. A separate school maintenance bond would likely have passed since people can clearly see how the district has let the schools crumble in order to move money to other areas.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward's wealthy and connected hope to steer the city into prosperous waters

You're wrong about CSF's political affiliation. Chuck Murphy is a D and others. If CSF was trying to get the money of a mostly Democrat majority, that would be their flavor-- it is purely a demographic analysis for them about what's needed to get their agenda met. Members have excorciated conservative voices for opposing their agendas more than they have done so for others. They are principle-less except in the principle of enriching themselves and providing the best opportunity to get taxpayer corporate welfare for themselves. That's all fine--it's a free country, but short of time-intensive personal research there is no way for the average citizen to know anything about "who's behind the curtain." Besides Pam and her informative approach, all the public sees is CSFs PR facade of wanting to "end divisiveness" and rainbow ponies, because that's what the Gazette puts out and shows up on billboards.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward's wealthy and connected hope to steer the city into prosperous waters

It just proves why our government was intended to be at least a two party system - so that all citizens had some chance of having their voices heard. If one party controls all the elected positions and appointed offices that is not a democratic approach to governing. So it is no surprise the "funders" of the party in charge of all things El Paso County are the real ones running the City and County. And yes it is difficult to live here - discouraging when everyone complains about how bad the roads are and no one wants a downtown stadium yet they just refuse to give anyone not hand picked by the powers that be a chance of trying to make a difference. But if you and others with a different point of view leave then who will be left to be a thorn in their side? Someone has to at least try to keep them honest.

Re: “District looking for answers after failure of bond, MLO

The school capital construction only applies to building a new building as I have understood it. this does nothing for the needs of d11 that already has too many schools. most school districts get nothing from the pot fund as it currently stands.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward's wealthy and connected hope to steer the city into prosperous waters

How comforting it is to know that a handful of wealthy patrons are looking after me and the city in which I live - even going so far as to provide me with a ready-made palette of candidates for office. Not.
One can only hope that, being fully accustomed to getting their own way, the members of CSF and like-minded other organizations will find at least one issue upon which there is hearty disagreement. One further hopes that each puts itself out-of-commission while doing battle to gain the upper hand.
The more I learn about the inner-workings of Colorado Springs, the less I want to live here.

Re: “POPs ballot measure in limbo

So sad to see how big money and politicians that are in their back pocket operate. We vote our mayor in but he won't allow the people to vote on a ridicules land swap that the majority of Colorado Springs doesn't want to go through! Ugg so frustrating! It's just the start of Anshutz land grab, wait till he gets rosemont reservoir and all it easements for the pipeline that goes right down Cheyenne Canyon. I'm sure it will be a great new horse trail from his new horse stables through seven fall up Cheyenne Canyon, to his new reservoir over to Emerald Fields and over to cloud camp! It will be epic ( for his guests) (all of which were once owned by Colorado Springs) He will be the proud owner of ALOT of land in c/s! I guess we can't do anything about it with a strong mayor and a very very rich man. "Cheyenne Canyon Master Plan".

Re: “Should we prepare for another Waldo Canyon or Black Forest in 2017?

Should we prepare for a disaster is the question! Golly, I don't know. If one lives in a house a fire extinguisher that functions is handy. A house in a forest an extinguisher is not going to quell a fire outdoors. The USFS fire suppression practices are what causes these fires to burn so intensely and for so long. What else does the Forest Service do? They sell timber. And I saw one officer recently trying to manage a forest by searching an older vehicle in a parking lot in a small town 100 miles from a forest. I would not have known it was a ranger but his monster 4x4 truck said so on the front fender. The military style he was dressed in including the standard shaved head were all calculated affectations to intimidate.
Then R.C. Smith, El Paso County's deputy chief of operations for the Office of Emergency Management and the county recovery manager makes a comment which seems to allude to global warming. Based on his childhood memory about it snowing every Halloween in the 1960's he is scaring citizens. It does not nor did it snow every Halloween. But fear monger they must.
Here is what it looks like
Avg Oct temps in the 2000's 84 79 79 84 74 83 81 83 78 82
Avg Oct temps in the 1960's 80 78 84 83 86 79 76 84 81 81
Global warming?? For fun look at 1948/50 averages:
1948 80 77 83 79 79 80 83 82 83 80
Global warming? No.
Dismantle the USFS and then watch the forests renew.
Lousy research dept at the indy...

Nospincs get your facts straight !!!! I'm fact section 8 recipients have to go through stringent background and criminal checks. Not everyone on section 8 are bad people. Like under any circumstances there are good and bad people everywhere. It is not because they have a section 8 voucher you moron.

Re: “Battle over Strawberry Fields continues in court and, maybe, at the ballot box

Jim Davies, think you started it: "How can Pam Zubeck still get the details of the exchange wrong? Incredible...", and then proceeded to make a case. The Incline is not mentioned on the petition as the opponents are opposed to commercializing historic parkland. If the City wants to take on that behemoth of a liability, they are free to do so. Clearly, the Bmoor is willing to unload it. Who wouldn't be, from a business cost/benefit analysis? It is undevelopable land which brings great liability risk with it and generates no income....actually, all the animals featured in the change.org petition are, in fact, in Strawberry Fields. Just saw a bear munching on tree ivy a few days ago. It is teeming with wildlife -- it is a corridor which abuts National forest and nearby water sources. Don't recall hearing Muscoco being covered in trash, but Strawberry is NOT as was asserted. The appraisals, which I think is what you call assessments, required 4 open records requests to get, and even the Mayor ended up publicly suggesting the Council focus on total acreage as opposed to value. What? Or, how about the fact that one cannot get a bank loan on Restricted Appraisals -- so much for soundness of that methodology. Let's move on and let the people decide. It is our land.
