Re: “Councilor Tom Strand allowed a city-funded agency to pay for an out-of-state trip

Is there any surprise here? Do not expect a recusal. In view of the massive donations Strand received for his campaign and has directly voted in favor of those donors' issues, do not expect any sort of recusal.

Re: “Busy ballot, tough choices for Colorado voters

Can we get more info about why Amendment 69 in its current form is bad? Or how specifically it would be different to be comparable to universal healthcare countries?

Re: “Election influencers: Hiding in plain sight

There is a legislative solution to this that goes beyond transparency regarding funds: make it a requirement that the candidate/issue they support is actually in the voting district they vote in. The Koch Brothers would then only be able to fund issues in Oklahoma, and Philip Anschutz, unless he's moved, would be funding Denver issues. Transparency is still paramount, and they way to fix that is with campaign funding reform. First step? Repeal Citizen's United. Second step? Change the rules for non-profits.

Jim, I'll keep my insurance the way it is and gladly pay 3.3% of my taxable income to help everyone - not just the select few I choose to chip a few bucks to because they 'believe' as I do.

Re: “A-69 backers push movie

Tannim, did any of your family ever benefit from Medicaid or Medicare...or Social Security? How about military retirement or veteran's benefits or Tri-Care for Life? By lifting the elderly from poverty Franklin Roosevelt made it possible for them to live in dignity without having to look for an oversized appliance box at a reasonable price. You come off as completely without a drop of humanity in your bloodstream. Do you know that we've lived in a social democracy ever since we formed the US Navy, and later the program that has become the Dept of Veteran's Affairs, then a whole raft of other things that have built our highways, bridges, water systems, fire departments, police departments and so on? We ALL paid for it, and we all use it - and it has to be funded. Figure it out or keep your yap shut.

Re: “A-69 backers push movie

This is a good movie. I also like Fix it. They are both aimed at fixing health care. We should all find ways to fix health care because it is way too expensive.

I have found a couple good sites about this. http://www.amendment69colorado.org and http://www.coloradocare.org/amendment69

Tannim, you need to trade your AR for a flintlock and I'll buy your argument. Wyman, your capitalization of the word Rights shows me on which side of the issue you stand.

Re: “After 19 years behind bars, Shaka Senghor crafts change, inside and out

Excellent interview for this article, and a really good talk last night! About 1,500 people showed up and I know it was a very powerful story for all of us to hear. It's such an important conversation to have as a community, because it is a complex conversation and there are so many folks doing good work in COS to try and get in front of the problems, as well as to handle the mop up! Let's give them the support they need, or even better, rally to be part of the solution ourselves.

Re: “Moms take on the NRA and win some battles

aka Shannon Troughton Google it and also Wellpoint Monsanto, Michael Bloomberg, along with her name she used as a public relations expert and she was not a stay at home mom. Her followers call for the murder of NRA members and that firearms owners children to be shot. I sent her an email asking about the tax status of the group, the response was they were going to report me to the FBI if I continued with my threats!. The only site that defends her is NPR and that after she fooled them but they felt she didn't fool them quite enough but some... Not surprised she would choose Boulder as a place to live but I would prefer if she stayed at home mom in Indiana. Her group has had no law passed or changed but did pressure Starbucks into asking customers to not conceal carry please. And here is link http://khn.org/morning-breakout/dr00051600…
I know most won't bother

Re: “Moms take on the NRA and win some battles

The thing about this country that drives some to the verge of insanity is having Rights. You do not have to exercise them and you are free to give them up. However, you do not have the Right to take another person's Rights away. The law of the land was not simply plucked out of the vapor by one person, history shows nothing goes well when one person is in charge of everything. People will fight for Rights and they will die for Rights but nobody will fight and die to be enslaved. Our government has power but it has no Rights. Citizens have Rights which gives them power over government. Take a minute to look up the inspiration for The Second Amendment in The Virginia Declaration of Rights, Section 13 written by George Mason. For any person today to insult the Founders and those that they studied by insinuating they had no common sense is a pathetic cretin deserving of nothing. Watts is a cretin diligently attempting to erase her history which was readily available a year or so ago and if you missed it then common sense evades YOU and you are in possession of none. You will have nothing if you have nothing to fight with. Common sense will tell you that- if you had any. Blustering and bragging while using a name to imply you are a Vietnam veteran is exactly what a vet WILL NOT do but you do have the Freedom to lie. (I read about 3 sentences of your tripe and I have read it before in other places, do they give you people a guidebook on what to say? They must because it is a variation on the same load of shit. And...They forgot to tell you it is not up for debate either)

Re: “Amendment 71 seeks to "protect" state Constitution, but from whom?

The problem that 71 claims to address is that it's too easy to amend the state Constitution.

The real problem is WHY people try to amend the state Constitution. That why is because the legislature can turn around and trash statutory initiatives, so they turn to the state Constitution to prevent it.

The real solution is to simply block the legislature from screwing with statutory initiatives.

The solution that 71 claims to address is actually no solution at all and is exactly what Caldara and the II say it is--it shuts out the little guy because they won't have the money to get the rural signatures, which are more expensive to get because of the cost from distances. So in effect, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Re: “Moms take on the NRA and win some battles

"I'm a gun owner, a lifelong hunter, a combat veteran and a good citizen. I support the MDA!"

Then you're stupid, too. You didn't swear an oath to the Constitution to defend it except in cases where the Second and Fourth Amendments are infringed, or where infringement on private property rights are infringed.
