Re: “Police, court documents differ from Glenn on 1983 incident

Good job of reporting. Great followup to a scoop. I wonder if he lied about this on his AFA application? It might have asked:
"Have you ever been charged with a crime?"

Re: “State Patrol forces citizen to drive to its Lakewood office to view, but not copy, reports

Cops breaking the law in Colorado and making damned sure you can't gather the evidence to fight them on it.... sounds fairly routine. Slow news day?

Re: “CSPD withholds investigation of cop who cost taxpayers $100,000 in lawsuit settlement

*yawn* Boys will be boys...especially when it comes to the CSPD...speaking of whom, is anyone other than me even just a tad curious to know whatever became of former CSPD Joshua Dwayne Carrier, the penultimate boy in blue himself? It's been a couple of years now since he was purportedly moved out of Colorado and into an east coast prison facility for his safety's sake...and out of sight, out of mind, I guess -- surely his justice is being served *somewhere*...right?!? Well it ain't necessarily so. Personally, and even though I'm decidedly not his type, Carrier's memory nags at me like a abscssed tooth and causes me to search for and gaze at his face almost daily. I came across a relatively recent selfie shot of JD sporting a red hat emblazoned with $$ signs -- yeah, that's right, cash money, dolla dolla bills, y'all...and the many young men he traumatized would do well to avoid downtown Denver, where I spotted him not even a week ago working as a concierge for a swanky hotel -- I found myself gazing up into his unmistakably hollow eyes...his all too familiar face veiled by a full beard and mustache; but it was him, or his twin; nearly dumbstruck, I forced myself to engage him in small talk about the hotel's rooftop pool...catching my breath sharply as I read the moniker on his name tag: "Joshua Jones".

Well, at least that menace to society Doug Bruce is securely under lock and key.

We have all been served up a half-assed report on Joshua Carrier; the rabbit hole starts at Mind Seizure, the commercial haunted house JD co-owned with his mother...and the peculiar fire that destroyed the TV parked in front of his house, which reportedly contained records his ghoulish moonlighting enterprise.

Re: “Local farmers market doubles food stamps — how do they do it and why is it rare?

You are right ThinkitThrough that Farmers Markets have been targeting those folks with money but I don't think this is out of some kind of bias or snobbery. Local food is pricey because you can't produce food sustainably at a cheap price. Small local farmers have to make a living, so they have to sell their food at higher prices.

This Doubling program will make local food accessible to low-income folks WHILE giving the local farmer a new client segment. Great for the farmer, great for all community members and great for the planet. Thank you Nat for writing this article.

Re: “Racial disparities persist in marijuana arrests

Whenever there occurs a general decrease in some adverse outcome, groups with the lower baseline rate tends to experience larger proportionate decline in rates of experiencing the outcome while other groups tend to experience larger proportionate increases in rates of avoiding the outcome. Correspondingly relative differences in rates of experiencing the declining outcomes tend to increase while relative differences in avoiding the outcomes tend to decrease.

References 1 and 2 explain these matters fairly succinctly. Reference 3 and 4 discuss the patterns that have been observed in Colorado and Denver as both have generally reduced school suspensions. Reference 5 explains the matter to the City of Boulder with regard to criminal justice issues and reference 6 urges the American Statistical Association to explain the matter to the President.

But statement “since 2012, marijuana arrests among white kids decreased by 8 percent, but increased among Hispanic kids by 29 percent and among black kids by 58 percent” (original emphasis) suggests a substantial departure from the usual situation where all groups’ rates change in the same direction. But if the statement actually means that the proportion white kids made up of persons arrested decreased while the proportion Hispanic and black kids made up of persons arrested increased, that would simply be a reflection of the usual pattern. See reference 1 and Table 1 of reference 6. See also the July 1, 2016 preliminary note to reference 7.

Re: “Heroin moves far and fast across the West — including Interstate 25

Mexico is the heart of the heroin trade let us cut the heart out and BUILD THE WALL.
Make no mistake the WHOLE government of Mexico is in on the drug trade and Mexican Cartels are entrenched in every major city in the USA. STOP illegal immigration and stop drug trafficking it is the same highway that lets them both in to OUR country.

Re: “Local farmers market doubles food stamps — how do they do it and why is it rare?

Farmers markets have long been geared toward white people with money (Whole Foods shoppers, Prius drivers, mate drinkers, yoga mat toters, etc.)

Are you kidding me? Nat, your bias and stereotypes are showing. This isn't a news article, it's an opinion piece. There's a huge difference in case you hadn't noticed. Shame on you.

Re: “Will Darryl Glenn rise to glory or fizzle out in his first stab at a national office?

Is that you Darryl? No one is stating or even suggesting that retirements and bennies earned from military service be denied to veterans. But thousands of multi-generation military careerists are riding a cradle to grave bennie bonanza dished out by Uncle Simp.

The point is the massive hypocrisy of Glenn who rides on that gravy train but wants to cut the bennies that the rest of us have PAID info all our working lives. That's what GOP code talk to "cut government spending" translates into....screwing over the working classes.

People who are not on Darryl's gravy train need to think long and hard about who they vote for this year, it really matters. For a working person to vote GOP is to cut one's own throat.

If that really is you Darryl, you need to write a whole lot better if you want to be a Senator.

Re: “Will Darryl Glenn rise to glory or fizzle out in his first stab at a national office?

OldCrank - Once I saw "gravy train" three times in two paragraphs, I knew you were off you meds.

Then you wrote this: "other bennies for the rest of his life….cradle to grave on taxpayer money. Hallelujah! Amen! Pass the plate!"

*sigh* (which doesn't come close to how pathetic this is)

For such a subservient, compliant, sloppy "Help me! My hands are cupped" liberal to suggest a retired officer should be denied benefits he was promised then worked for underscores what a sad, unsuccessful, "I made bad choices, help me Big Gov" regressive Old Crank you are.

The only thing sadder are those that "Liked" your baseless, tactless, pointless rant.

Re: “Will Darryl Glenn rise to glory or fizzle out in his first stab at a national office?

Both of Glenn’s parents enjoyed the USAF gravy train and both Glenn and his wife lived on the USAF gravy train. He’s spent just about a full life on the taxpayers dime, and will collect his USAF retirement and other bennies for the rest of his life….cradle to grave on taxpayer money. Hallelujah! Amen! Pass the plate!

He’s got his lifetime gravy train squared away but will cut government spending, which is Tea Party / GOP code talk for cutting YOUR Medicare and Social Security in YOUR old age, as Paul Ryan and the GOP want to do. As a total hypocrite he’s a perfect GOP 1% wannabe.

“Glenn has been almost religious in attending meetings …. but he rarely instigated new initiatives.” I worked 30+ years for DoD and know that as the norm for career ticket punchers: don’t rock the boat, don’t make waves, don’t cause trouble, go along to get along, stay invisible while you’re here, let the civilians or the next guy clean up any messes.

The guy is a total facade of self promotion, an empty suit who says all the right things but has no substance and who blows the approved GOP dog whistle themes to catch voters’ ears. Do not be played for suckers over immigration, abortion, guns and other issues that aren’t going to change; these are topics used by pols only for divide and conquer politics.

Few retired Americans can make do without the existing Medicare and Social Security programs that we paid into all our working lives via tax withholding. It is OUR money and not an unearned gift from the government. If you’re not retired yet be careful with your future. Don’t elect anyone who wants to muck with YOUR future retirement security.

Vote GOP / Tea at your own risk.

Re: “Anschutz's giving, Longinos Gonzalez's primary win, Lathen's new job, and more

"The Anschutz Foundation donates to hundreds of worthy organizations each year, and it does not attempt to dictate to those organizations how to spend their monies [including] sexual orientation or gender issues."

Non denial. So they don't dictate to "worthy organizations how to spend their money." Of course, if you donate to anti-LGBT groups, you already know HOW they will spend that donation.

Perhaps I can clarify that language for them. "Yes. We donate to some designated hate groups. So what?"
