The mayor, along with making a jurisdictional-territorial battle out of this, channeling Nero while "Rome" burned, instead of doing his job, violated Homeland Security Presidential Directives 5 through 8, first directed by "W" after 9/11, that define the coordination and implementation of all-hazards preparedness in the US, to respond to major disasters, and emergencies.

He also totally ignored all dictates of the NIMS 402 Incident Command System protocols for executives and senior officials that coordinate authorities in disasters like this.

There was a complete lack of a coordinated Incident Action Plan that the responder's leaders consider crucial, which led to a breakdown in communications at critical locations.
There was a total resistance to the ubiquitous "mutual aid" agreements which ALL municipal emergency responders have to lend assistance across jurisdictional boundaries.

After Action Report
page 11: 23June:
Colorado Springs EOC active by 12:30. (The fire already WAY out of control) So... at this point, the time he wasted the day before is haunting the responders and risking lives and property.
page 53: Communications.
No ISC 205 Form Plan. (How are they going talk to everyone?)
This was a crucial failure on 9/11 and the lessons should have been learned then. The cell phone technology totally let them down.
page 59, Item 2.6....
"I am working on task books right now!"
Page 70: Logistics.......issues.....
"could not meet the needs of their people working"
Page 75.... "not enough people"
This addresses the ideological portion of the failure: neocons and teabaggers cutting funding for public services because they want to pirate-tize every service we pay our taxes for.
A poll over at the Gasette shows Jan Martin a favorite to head council...I am pretty much anyone but the water bed king...so embarrassing, besides waterbeds are so '70's, as is his reality.
Sin is insidious and in is case is common to both sides.
I agree with mj that it doesn't help to clog the system.
While I agree that some new pastors experience difficulties following a stronge leader, this man destroys lives and churches!! Unfortunately, his actions in Colorado were not new. His con played out in two seperate churches in Chicago. Now, his destructive ways have caught up with him.
St Johns..... as a former member of New Life Baptist Church of Greater Chicago and Victim of his destruction You all are and have been in our prayers!!! We celebrate with you and will continue to pray that God sends you a Man/Pastor/Preacher/Teacher after his own HEART....
Hi Rob. I'm assuming that you are the same Rob Harris who is filed with the Sec of State's office as the registered agent for the El Paso Freedom Defense Committee.
If that's the case, then you are probably aware that I attempted to contact you through multiple channels while preparing this article. I sent messages to the email addresses registered with the SOS, and I called both numbers listed. I even had an amusing but fruitless interaction with whoever it is that oversees your group's Facebook page.
Next time, don't hesitate to give me a call.
Thanks.
A new fire season is upon us - and I have no confidence that the city will be better prepared - other having bought more "stuff".
Guess we should have put Tejon in charge. He/she seems to have all the answers
Once again Pam nice reporting and now the big broom and dust pan come out and the sweeping begins.
Bennett wont be president because the Mayor doesnt like or trust him. Bennetts votes sway with the wind. He's a yes man and has been one for decades. Martin will keep Council weak. King would do well but his health is starting to fail and I forsee him giving up his seat before the term is up for personal health reasons. At the forums he was winded and shaky. Gaebler is an ice queen and has much personality as Council Member Williams did, none. That leaves Collins who is the female version of Doug Bruce. Miller and Knight. It will probably be Martin.
what was outcome?
The author misses several points. Firstly, a recall committee by law is not allowed to submit or endorse a candidate. That is why they are not putting forth a candidate or working directly with or for the GOP or any other political party. Secondly, the political inexperience of those who wish to recall Morse shows that the people are no longer willing to accept having their rights removed and are willing to move out of their normal comfort zone to do something about it.
Why didn’t the author discuss the many reasons listed on recall committee’s Facebook and web pages or the publicly available petition wording from the Secretary of State? This recall is about more than just firearms. It is about a state senator who refuses to listen to his constituents and won’t even read their emails while encouraging other senators to do the same. Morse changed senate rules thereby disenfranchising hundreds of Colorado citizens and limiting their ability to speak on impending legislation while allowing out of state celebrities as much time as they liked to speak. At the beginning of the year, Morse promised to focus on the economy, but instead has pushed gun control, illegal alien tuition assistance, sex education for grade schoolers, a $1 BILLION tax increase, and increased energy costs for rural citizens. Legislation he has pushed has even caused several companies to start leaving the state and taking hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars of revenue with them. He also submitted legislation defining an assault weapon as any semi-automatic or lever-action rifle while seeking to blame law-abiding gun owners and sellers for the illegal actions of violent criminals.
The author also could have provided information about where his readers could go to find out more information about the recall and make a determination for themselves about the recall Morse effort. On Facebook, go to Recall Senator John Morse and the website is www.gotremorse.com. Take a look and see why ordinary people who are not usually political activists are involved in trying to recall Morse. You may or may not agree, but at least you will have a better understanding than by just reading this article.
Good report Pam...you are the only one really holding everyone's feet to the fire and assuring our future safety, even for this summer.
This fire is more about the coverup than the devastation in a real sense.
Of course I always harken back to seeing Sally Clark use it as an opportunity for her 2 minutes of fame, and so I blame a lot of the response fault on her constant requests for tours.
But the city really didn't look very well prepared or operational last summer...which is not to question them as much as to point out that this is why you have the feds come in with an overall supervision and resources equal to the task, which is precisely the fire chief and mayor refused.
This is a leadership problem, not at all rank and file.
Would all 6 be included in the assessment that this new council is a 'pack of fools' or just some? And Ms. Martin: what nightmarish scenarios are we forecasting if she assumes the role of President of Council?
Tech: you are becoming as whiny as the liberals. I say - give 'em a chance and let's see what they do.
We won't have a good president until we have a better group of council members...Rich Tosches will have lots of material to write funny stories about this pack of fools we've just elected.
Jan Martin leading this town...oh my gosh...what a nightmare...perish the thought.
Mr. Skorman,
Your statement "House-cleanings do have an upside".... really!!! Most likely the downside is larger than the upside. Do you honestly believe all of those people were worthless? How about fixing any real problems identified, using real solutions??? Wouldn't a "strong leader" do that first?
Your other statement "The advantage is that you have your own staff that you hand-picked, that you have interviewed and they understand what your goals are,".... really again, are you serious? So now you are saying that those people don't understand clearly communicated goals or if they do, that they have to agree with all of the Mayors thoughts? The big disadvantage to your line of logic is that you get a bunch of worthless YES people.
Richard, I'm sure glad you didn't win the Mayor's spot. You might actually have been worse than the one we got stuck with.
Anytime the Mayor spends OUR money in this manner, he should be honest and accountable enough to tell the citizens why, rather than supplying a "no comment" response. That lack of honesty and transparency is totally disrespectful to the citizens who did (and did not) vote him into his paid position in office. Actions speak louder than words and these and other actions are really disgraceful.
Today the bus company made an Insulting offer of a 31-day Unlimited Ride bus pass.....
Re: “It's ready, aim, recall against Morse”
"It's amazing. People are very paranoid."
There. Fixed it for you.
