Re: “Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation plans overhaul of Norris-Penrose Event Center

Recognizing that not everything in the world is somehow connected to The Broadmoor Land Swap of 2016, one cannot help but see an interesting thread buried in this article. If the right of first refusal (a title restriction) can be undone in this case, what does that say about the highly-touted, iron-clad right-of-first-refusal which was placed on Strawberry Fields?
The inclusion of that title restriction was used by both the city and the Broadmoor to reassure the public and help sell
their deal. Just sayin' .........

Re: “More on fatal crash involving El Paso County GOP chairman

It doesn't take a lot of force to dent the bodywork of a newer model vehicle. I doubt the velocity of the SUV would be considered excessive enough to be described as "such speed". That being said, Trevor Dierdorff was certainly at fault, and "careless" would be an excellent description of his actions leading to the accident.

Re: “UPDATE: Cleanup costs for Colorado Springs downtown land: $4.4 million

To be clear, Richard Skorman wasn't rude and didn't "shout down" this person or anyone. He allowed her the full amount of time allowed anyone else and then told her she was mistaken in some of the comments she made. The video is available on the city's website if you'd like to view it and make your own judgment.

Re: “Gazette reportedly lays off newsroom employees

Ms. Zubek:

I know some other former Gazette employees, dedicated professionals, who have left the paper. None that I have run into regret their decisions.

I'm sure your decision to leave the Gazette was a difficult one, but your contributions to the Independent and to journalism in this city justifies the change. We benefit weekly from your writing; I doubt you would have been able to do the same at the Gazette.

So...thanks. Your work is much appreciated.

Re: “Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation plans overhaul of Norris-Penrose Event Center

Went to the rodeo ONE time. In 2005. All was fine until it was over and the event turned into an evangelical sermon. If I want a sermon I'll go to church. Never went back to this place. Never will.

I do hope they improve the facility. The one time we went a storm came up and the unpaved parking lot became a dust storm with all the wind. Dreadful. Nothing like a 3rd world experience in the world's only superpower. If that's the best we can do then sell it to China and let them invest it.

Re: “Aviation Museum announces big plans for new facilities

Great idea to expand the airport location. This should be the end of anything downtown, other than a bus stop to ferry people to and from the location. Why not use City Hall or City Auditorium as the bus gathering point for museum goers. Why not have Gray Line run the tourist buses like they do in 'major' cities. There is no shortage of good solutions; sadly there is no shortage of bad ideas foisted on taxpayers by the in-crowd in every city.

Re: “Gazette reportedly lays off newsroom employees

The uber rich love buying papers so they can spread their lies, like the biggest lie of all: Tax cuts pay for themselves. Ask Kansas how that's working for them under their version of GOP's voodoo economics.

Too bad the Gazette didn't let go of the flaming ideologue who writes their insipid editorials. Who needs Alex Jones when you have the Gazette's bizarro mouthpiece.

I hope they improve the facility. The one time we went a storm came up and the unpaved dirt parking lot became a sand storm with all the wind. Dreadful. Nothing like a 3rd world experience in the world's only superpower. If that's the best we can do then sell it to China and let them invest it.

Re: “El Paso County looks to off-load detox facility

The facility IS needed. Issue is who funds it. If we can find the funding then the change of ownership isn't a concern. But what does concern me is this smells of typical GOP "YOYO" politics, i.e., You're On Your Own. You want detox, do it yourself pal, You're On Your Own. Why not tax the liquor trade to pay for the problems that it sells, one 750ML bottle at a time.

Re: “City for Champions hits snags, generates controversy

Instead of anyone spending $28M for any stadium, that sum of money would be vastly better spent building the youth sports complex known as the Scott Hall Field of Dreams on the abandoned Colorado Crossing site. Let's do something for OUR kids and not the hotel and bar tourist trade.

Suthers' "Bridge to Nowhere" is a great idea to make it easy for the homeless population to get around and annoy what visitors we do have. Once word gets out on Yelp that ATB Park is swarming with homeless dudes swilling T-Bird and smoking weed watch how quickly it becomes a ghost town. But it will become a mecca for police activity, er, I mean an OJT site for new cops.

NO STADIUM. NO AIRCRAFT MUSEUM. NO BRIDGE. NO WASTED TAX FUNDS

And how'd they get downtown? In their rare kangaroo mouse choking, squirrel squashing, seats 9 but I have 2 and 1 is at soccer practice SUV. Move back to Oregon you dipwads.

Re: “Neumann Systems Group will close shop after two decades due to changing energy market

All patents and copyrights associated with this technology should revert to CSU and the taxpayers of this city, as we provided the money to build and prove the efficacy of the design and construction.

Our city should then market this technology to coal-fired power plants around the world as there is a dire need for improvement in air quality, especially in China.

We should not let Dr. Neumann, and/or any of his associates, walk away with these patents and milk foreign markets for billions unless our city gets the share it was promised in the original agreement.

Where is our "STRONG MAYOR" on making sure our city enjoys the revenue stream it was promised -- or has he been bought off, like all the other GOP types.

Re: “UPDATE: Cleanup costs for Colorado Springs downtown land: $4.4 million

I am a supporter of Richard Skorman and pleased to see him in a leadership role. That said, after all the abuse he has taken in recent months, I find it disheartening to have a report of him speaking to a citizen in such a rude matter as president of City Council.

Contrary to current thought, politeness on all sides is necessary and sadly lacking. Shouting people down and dismissing them rudely leads to one thing -- mob rule. There is no need for this behavior anywhere. A citizen, has every right to speak. She is part of the public and if the ideas aren't out there, they can't be considered. It's called free speech.

Re: “Progressive churches prepare to protect immigrants in the heart of Trump country

how does your church say to treat others??? are you truly a moral caring person or are you not???

just because you go to church does not make you a good person... you must show it in your actions... well what is it going to be?!!!

Re: “Progressive churches prepare to protect immigrants in the heart of Trump country

The other two commenters, you can't actually believe that you could argue reason and facts with people who write articles like this, do you? I mean, the author goes so far as to say "...the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) focus was purportedly on removing undocumented immigrants convicted of crimes, but people with very minor infractions often got swept up.." So it's telling me that illegal (undocumented) immigrants with VERY (as if there's a difference between minor and very minor???) minor infractions aren't actually "criminals" convicted of crimes? Seriously? THEY'RE IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY AND THAT'S A F#%KING CRIME!!!
