Re: “Nearly $73,000 in dark money flows into Colorado Springs city election

I am glad that District 6 Candidate Melanie Bernhardt has not taken developer money in this election. Win or lose, she is a candidate which is not beholden to any interests except the voters and I wish to invite them to view her forum of the issues. She responds to her inquiries personally and there are multiple ways one can reach her melaniebernhardt.com/community .

All this money flowing for, as you remind us, a small paying job is scary, and causes me to not trust the city council members who benefit from these large contributions. Melanie believe she can run her campaign without the big money donors, and relies on small donations to fund her and public word of mouth. Let your voice be heard.

Re: “Colorado Springs City Council: Choices for the future

Thank you for recognizing Don Knight's hard work for us the citizens! He has consistently supported the interests of those already invested in Colorado Springs.

The Gazette has backed Greg Basham, terming Don a micro-manager, but Don asks the questions that make our Citys organizations, like Utilities and Planning, more transparent. Add to that the Gazettes brand-new policy of not publishing letters of support after endorsing a pro-developer slate and it gets a little strange.

Basham has publicly pledged support to fast-tracking development. Development interests have donated more than $30,000 to his campaign. He claims that Don has no business experience, but Dons extensive resume as an AF officer, plus a decade in business development, is ideal he understands how to grow business, and knows that big government has trouble listening to citizens voices. Don is supported by ordinary citizens, the Firemens Union, and Utilities. His much smaller $5,000 campaign fund reflects this grassroots backing.

We need more housing, but the citys unswerving goal of Infill without sufficient standards is creating overcrowded spaces and structures that blight the community and do not serve our long-term interests. We need development interests that are pledged to improve our city, not just build more units.

Re: “Richard Skorman maligned by dark money group in City Council race

Anschutz is trying to bury Skorman for standing up for citizens and against the Broadmoor's land grab of city park land at the mouth of Cheyenne Canyon.

We don't want a City Council owned by Phil Anschutz.

Vote for Skorman, Gaebler and Avila ...

Re: “Nearly $73,000 in dark money flows into Colorado Springs city election

There appears to be an direct, or indirect link between Percipient Strategies, Washington, D.C. and the CORA inquiry seeking information on Jill Gaebler and Helen Collins - all part of the estimated $280,000.00 spent to date to fund this campaign; 68% from CSF and the Development Community. A fair amount dedicated to nasty, mud-slinging trash that most people would not want to be a part of. But - you go DeDe!

Here is a thought:

What if that $280,000.00 had been spent on research to better acquaint candidates on the full background, financial impact and implications of needs impacting the region? To date, each of the challenging, Big Money candidates have declared they are the answer to taking care of public safety - infrastructure - and economic development! Where are the detailed step by step detailed action plans developed by each of the Big Money Candidates for they will use to solve these problems?

Judging by the fluff and mudslinging - keeping the current council members seated and voting against Crow-Iverson, Basham, Fowler and Hendrix would be prudent?

Re: “Richard Skorman maligned by dark money group in City Council race

The Colorado Springs Gazette is Dishonest Media.
The Crooked Laugesen Family are paid by the GOP to manipulate.

The republican leaves the board of commissioners to head up Springs Forward so another republican is placed into the seat. Kathy Loo given subsidies for building downtown.

The GOP money even feeds the local libertarians who foolishly follow GOP paid operatives who claim they are just activists trying to make everyone equal. They are all about their own cash flow and not about the town or the people.

Re: “UPDATE: Nor'wood working land swap deal with the city

Amazing, 301 Cimino Dr. went from $270,000 to $904,000 in less than 4 months? Meanwhile, 25 and 125 Cimino dropped by almost $1,000,000? And these parcels were donated to the city by David Jenkins in December are now being traded back to him? What am I missing here? What's going on?

Does Jenkins get two tax deductions, one for donating the parcels to the city and another for trading a 'lesser' value properties back to the city? Real estate folks, what don't I understand? This smells to me, and it seems some of the stink is coming from the appraisers office.

Re: “UPDATE: Nor'wood working land swap deal with the city

Bill Murray is my hero.

There may be some good reasons the city is swapping a couple large pieces of land for one little piece of land, but I am so tired of the frickin' (can I use that word?) patronizing reasons and bogus "assessments" that are fed to the citizens of this city.

Re: “Al Gore continues to build an army, battle climate change denial

Al Gore should organize another Democratic vote by scientists, what was the last - 95% of the scientists who knew nothing about climate voted with ignorant blind faith in worship of the few who professed to understand climate

Al Gore is Trumped lately, perhaps he should organize another Democratic vote where 95% [?] of scientists who know nothing about climate in blind faith worship the few scientists who say they understand climate

Re: “Richard Skorman maligned by dark money group in City Council race

Chuck Fowler taking a stand for Colorado Springs taxpayers? Now that is rich. Fowler's "City Committee" echoed repeatedly the need for growth in revenue for the City to keep solvent, yet he went to Denver to testify in support of City for Champions whose financing plan would swallow up the growth (in tax increment financing) he says is so vital and apply that growth on projects his endorsers and his campaign financiers back. And the Gazette's connection to the shadow political operative efforts through the editorial page editor and his wife should make any weighing in they do on these issues null and void by those with any sort of critical eye. Some of the most repulsive elements crawl out of their cockroach nests during campaigns.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

Mr. K--

You are correct - the word that was used by Generoso Pope, Jr - the original founder or creator of the Enquirer to describe what his paper concentrated on was "seedy" and not that he actually came out and said his paper was a "sleaze-rag" Stories with some odd or freakish twist.

We wrote about stories that regular people could relate to. They were human-interest stories with some odd or freakish twist that would make them interesting. We didnt make stuff up, but we did sensationalize it.

"Often, much of what the public likes to read involve the seedy side of life"

As far as the current President, not sure he has created a level of credibility that warrants discussion.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

Since when did The Enquirer admit it is a "sleaze-rag"? Not that it isn't, but it would never admit to it. Our new president has no problem citing articles from the rag as if it were the gospel truth.

Re: “City ballot issues: Just say YES to all three

RE Item #1: I happen to agree with the desire to keep the utilities public and so I hesitate to bring it up, but something seems bizarre about this proposal. It asks a majority of the voters in this election to approve the depriving of a majority of the voters in a future election from approving the sale of the utilities. I guess I'll compromise my principles and vote for it anyway.

The Enquirer at least admits they are a 'sleaze-rag' and don't pretend otherwise!

Re: “The Gazette lifted our jail food story

Plagiarism, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is "to use another persons idea or a part of that person's work and pretend that it is your own." (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/diction…)

In other words: stealing.

and it IS a big deal. How would you like someone taking your research essay, or song lyrics, or a novel you wrote, and publish them as their own? Profiting from your work without your permission? I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't care for that very much.

The Gazette may have a different motive for publishing a story than the Indy. Perhaps Mr. Anschutz has invested in a company under scrutiny and would like to spin the story a different way. Or perhaps to take credit for breaking an important story. It would not be the first time.
