No surprise here. The Indy, in its untiring effort to be balanced, published three anti gun letters and no letters supporting the second amendment.
Mr. Sprenkle indicates that all the polls he has seen show 78% to 98% in favor of eroding 2nd amendment rights. Golly Bob, where have you been looking?
For every phony poll you put up showing support for the systematic erosion of our rights, I can put up five that counter the claim.
Polls are heavily influenced by two things. How the question is worded and how the question is interpreted.

Addy Hansen, a "highly intellegent person" doesn't need to say they are a highly intellegent person. Also, a highly intellegent person wouldn't follow the word "understand" with the word "know" in the same sentence as if they were different. In order for one to "understand", one would ipso facto already "know" as that is part of the definition of "understand".

Addy: And just how does limiting magazine capacity or banning semi-automatic rifles improve mental health or lessen suicide? If our legislators would craft new laws that actually had a positive effect on violent crime, we would ALL be in favor. Instead, they cater to the liberal fringe who want complete disarmament. Wonder why Bennett and Udall voted against the bills yesterday...................

Addy Hansen, if you took the time to get the facts you would realize how incorrect you are. Just because the tax passed in November doesn't mean the money just starts rolling in. The county did not start collecting revenue until January and the Sheriff didn't see a dime of that until March. Even though funds weren't there he started hiring in January. His people are working very hard to get people trained, but that also doesn't happen overnight. Would you like a newly hired person with no training to respond to calls? They have to go through months and months of training. As a community, we will probably not truly see the benefit of 1A until a few months from now if not longer. As far as the gun laws, I'm glad that we have someone that is representing us and protecting our constitutional rights. He took an oath to do that. I'm not sure what you are so distraut about. Sheriff Maketa doesn't believe in just anyone owning a gun, but he does believe in law abiding citizens having the rights to own one. Those who support the gun laws are living in a fantasy world. Do you really believe these laws will prevent criminals or mentally ill people from obtaining a weapon? That's not going to happen, then the law abiding citizen who gave up their weapon becomes a victim and is less likely able to protect their family. 911 is great, but what do you do while your waiting for the cops? Offer the criminals some coffee or tea? I think you should take a look at the big picture before making accusations.

Ms. Addy Hansen: We all know you are a "highly intelligent person" and all, and you know so much about the citizens here in our great county, however, your "intelligence" has been overshadowed by your lack of good old fashioned common sense! You have driven 20 miles, one way, weekdays since September and have not witnessed an increase in county patrols...Gee, let's see, the ballot initiative didn't even pass till November!! Do you really think they just pluck people off the street, suit them up in spiffy uniforms, give them a car and send them on their merry way to patrol the county roads? Get a clue!! Give the Sheriff's Office time to post the positions, go through the hiring process, select qualified candidates and train them... You're a true genius!!

Finally I have a diagnosis!!! Thank you Mr. Taylor. I suppose the cure would be to unlearn all the actual scientific facts that I have learned and start listening to Rush Limbaugh. Thanks but no thanks, I would rather have acute environmental whackoitis then bury my head in the sand syndrome. If you need the cure I've got it, its called doing research.

Mr. Taylor seems to be quite the authority on the environment, climate change, tar sands oil and fracking. It's refreshing to hear from someone with so much expertise to clear up the global warming hoax and to confirm that fracking is perfectly safe. Although Oklahoma City is experiencing earthquakes, that is simply a natural settling of the earth's crust - nothing to see here. The Tar Sands pipeline could have provided all those great temporary jobs in Canada going either east or west, but the Canadians rejected it outright. That's obviously because they're stupid. We NEED that "important project" pipeline and tar-oil running through our heartland, so that which doesn't spill out along the way can be shipped off to China and anyone who may be the highest bidder. Actually, I was quite convinced that Mr. Taylor is a voice of reason when he quoted Mr. Limbaugh, who is also a very well known authority.

Mr. Inman: The answer, as far too many Americans have concluded, is to simply quit your job and join the ranks of Uncle Barry's welfare recipients. Why bother working and paying taxes. Simply be a ninny in the nanny state. According to our president, it is the new American thing to do.

THIS JUST IN: The ultra liberal Colorado legislature, in an attempt to be the first to overreact and in light of the bombings in Boston, have voted to ban all pressure cookers. Crock pot owners are 'up in arms' worrying that they will be next.

In fairness if siggie is going to ask where Bob has been looking for polls in favor of eroding 2nd ammendment rights, it is fair to ask siggie if he also can provide links to the "five that counter the claim." Both are entitled to their opinions, however if they are going to state "facts" it is fair to ask for their sources.
