Re: “Reader: The Indy's loaded with crap

Mr. Slocum:

"Whatever happened to decency and common sense?"

I think your President discarded all that when he started his campaign. Don't look for it to make a return for at least 4 years. It' just not his style.

As for the resistance that you seem to abhor, ask yourself this question: What, exactly, has Mr. Trump done to bring all Americans into his MAGA plan?

I'll help you out here. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. And he won't be bothering to do so, since he is only concerned with his base. The rest of us are his enemies. And, as he has said himself, he crushes his enemies. He has no intention of uniting with anyone but his supporters.

Pardon my cynicism, but when the damage is piling up in DC, the Indy is doing a public service by tracking and documenting that damage for its readers. You need to adjust your tolerance for poop. DJT is feeding it to us daily.

An old man who lacks the vocabulary to make a point.
Back in 2008 the indy ran an article on Duane that he didn't trust government and now he doesn't want to hear about the lack of trusting the government.

Re: “Bennet calls for deeper look at Trump's ties to Russia

I don't know why the Democrats are still upset about the election, as Hillary got the usual award for achievement in today's world, i.e., a participation trophy.

Connections with Russia? After watching yesterdays (Feb 16th) press conference, congress ought to examine Trump's connection with reality.

Re: “Venetucci family member issues plea for farm

I've lived in this are since 1975, and that lovely farm with its pumpkins, corn, and farm animals has been an incredible gift to my family and children, and then to their children. We've driven by there for all these years enjoying all the seasons the land on a farm goes through. It's "our" little piece of country in a growing city. Both Bambi and Nick blessed this entire community in so many ways, and what a terrible shame it would be to see their land fade away from what it was intended to be. Please keep that farm alive.

Re: “Venetucci family member issues plea for farm

The people currently in charge were chosen for a reason. If they won't follow through and continue farming operations, take them to court and give it back to the family. It's almost planting time!!

Re: “Colorado's public accommodations debate

I have been given the look many times in my life starting at 3 years old when I had shoulder length wavy auburn hair. Rude people would come up to me and ask, What are you a boy or a girl? I was confused by this question since I knew the my mom and sister were girls and I was like them, but I felt more like I was one of my brothers. As an adult, I have been given the look when someone questioning my gender sees me in the womens bathroom. I have been given angry sneers. I was shunned by my Christian ministry after 10 years of celibacy and service because I was a sexual suspect, a person that is under suspicion of being deviant. I was not, I was a child that was misunderstood and after being sexually assaulted numerous times as a defenseless child, I decided I didnt want anything to do with sex or relationships.

But I find it very interesting that others feel that they can judge me not by my actions, but their religious beliefs. Maybe they need to read their Bibles again on how Christ treated the others, and that God said the Greatest Commandment is to love God with all of you heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself. Still waiting for conservatives to get this point when they say its their right to disregard my rights as an American citizen. Looking forward to this court case going to the Supreme Court and see how the Highest Judges of our Nation rule on this issue.

Judges Shut Down Antigay Florist, Case Could Head to Supreme Court

After being shut down this week by the Washington Supreme Court in a 9-0 decision, florist Baronelle Stutzman is not giving up her fight to refuse service to same-sex couples.
Even though she previously served Rob Ingersoll and Curt Freed, Stutzman the owner of Arlene's Flowers in Richland refused to provide bouquets for their 2013 wedding. Stutzman cited "my relationship with Jesus Christ" as the reason for denying service, Buzzfeed reports.

Re: “Lifetime state parks pass for seniors

I am 62 years old and have been awarded a life time National Parks Pass for a $10.00 one time fee. Why can't States do this for Seniors as well? Haven't we paid full price long enough to warrant a little consideration. I really would like to know who the State Parks need to thank for younger generations being interested in the great outdoors? I think it is we the senior generation...Just saying!!!

Re: “Colorado's public accommodations debate

Great article. If you're using religion to dehumanize and shame other human beings, then you're doing it wrong. If our faith does not lead us to show love and kindness to all of God's children, including Trans-humans, then we've made religion about us, and not God. No one appointed us to be judge. Come on, people! Using ancient texts to justify hate and exclusion is the opposite of love. And you claim to follow Jesus?

Re: “Prosecutor stuck with lifetime debt for collecting pension

Something is very wrong with this! The fact that Dan received no notification from the Plan about return to work clause is unacceptable!! Was his wife notified? Did she sign a waiver? I think the Plan, the county commissioners and whatever powers that be need to look at how retirees are notified about retirement, return to work policy and how it affects the spouse! This should not be happening to someone who put in nearly 30 years for El Paso county!!!!

Re: “Reader: The homeless issues aren't getting any better

The solution is simple, but I know some will go to great lengths to make it convoluted and most of that stems from being judgemental and arrogant... but the solution to help the homeless is to simply give them homes. It is not hard to do, and is less costly than what taxpayers must shell out in services. It also gives a homeless person a new outlook, a fresh start that was a complete impossibility before. When you are down, it is hard to get up again, I do not care what some say about "picking up oneself by their bootstraps" because that is an arcane and asinine expression. We live in a system that is awash with laws that merely provide for punishment, and if the price of a mistake is too steep then more punishment is added and farther down one goes. Our government has transformed itself into an aristocracy of sorts, and they spend our money on idiotic projects, pass legislation that is regulating people out of work and business. Government meddles in everything. It was not designed to be that way, but people just started accepting it. Government has never once solved a problem, but people go nuts over elections proving how ignorant they truly are. Elections can best be called "Hire a liar".

Help the homeless, give them a home. Do not ask that they jump through hoops or pass tests. Do not meddle in their lives; just give them a goddam house. Do not tell me that it would be unfair to those who purchased a house because I will respond with, yes, life is not fair. If you prefer to see or know some people are out in the cold, then shame on you, you are no better than anyone else. In fact if you think you are better you are actually worse. There, but for the grace of God, go I...

Re: “Council votes unanimously to pass anti-panhandling ordinance

Obvious and easy to see through this bull crap. If citizens are really concerned about safety then citizens need to be more careful. Why some ask for money is their business and whether they have a house or not is not anyone else' business either. If this city can give away millions upon millions to keep the Olympic Committee here then they can allow citizens their Rights to pursue happiness and use public owned places to exercise those Rights.
City Council members are all old enough to see that the way things have been handled in respect to some moral and racist beliefs for 100 years have simply failed. Those whose religious standards follow then into elected office becomes un-Constitutional when they apply those standards to legislation and to use legislation to bully citizens is illegal. Those that use drugs are excluded from employment, shelter and any benefits that tax dollars may award to others. Why? The laws against drugs are all based in racism until Nixon changed them into a political tool to win re-election. Why is the term "homeless" used to describe someone? Does it matter?
Giving away millions in an economy that is quickly crumbling is the act of the foolish or the financially comfortable. Punishing the most unfortunate members of our society is a violation of Human Rights and just plain obscene. I suggest that some need a refresher course in The Golden Rule and actually start to live and practice it. 2.3 million in US prisons, high unemployment and the failing economy is not the time to climb up on a high horse. And last but not least the dangers that exist in toiling in low paying jobs is not any different than panhandling on the streets. The job of police officer is not as hazardous as we are led to believe yet they are paid well and supplied with every safety device and tool they desire. They do not even concern themselves with public safety either. If the streets full of traffic are so dangerous then why in the hell do you paint crosswalk lines on them? A white line and a red light means little to a careless driver nor does it stop a vehicle.
