Re: “Stop making cents”
While Spotify has been useful in listening to new artists/music before making a decision to buy, I don't like (a) the necessity of having a wifi hookup to listen and (b) not actually "owning" a copy of the song. What can I say, I'm old school. The ads don't bother me so much--I grew up on AM radio!--but my concern is for the artists getting their due (which is why file-sharing is something I don't do).

Thanks for the inclusion of CD Baby in your article! We are very excited that independent artist are included in the US release of Spotify. It's going to be interesting to see what impact the arrival of Spotify has on the music industry in the US.

I have seen Godsmack so many times and can't get enough. People who talk smack about Godsmack cannot appreciate Real musical talent. Sully is the ultimate musician who can play every instrument and write and compose great music as he showed with Avalon. Will be seeing them tomorrow at Mayhem Fest....cannot wait!!!!

Yeeeeah. Geez, cuz you know what there's not enough of? Indie folk. I just never get tired of it. Hey Bill, did you like, loooove The Strokes ten years ago? Like they were just so visceral and raw? Instead of spending half your article going down on Haunted Windchimes, you could cover everything else happening this week, which is a ton. But, on second thought, don't. There's bands in town that're busy building a scene, but if you don't dig around, you'll never find it. But hey, yuppies and cc kids like Haunted Windchimes, so I guess it makes it easy on you, huh?

I have been to every godsmack concert in Colorado since 1998 and have never been let down. They are one of the best bands to see live and would'nt miss one their shows for anything. Long Live the Smack!

I've seen a lot of shows. Godsmack truly is one of the best that I have ever seen. From opening for Metallica to an unplugged show in Jackson Hole, WY, they put on one AMAZING show. I would see Godsmack a hundred times before I saw Megadeth again. Don't get me wrong, Megadeth is a great band and puts on a great show. But for overall showmanship? Godsmack wins every time!

Tall City performs Saturday at the Lakehouse Festival in Fort Collins saturday with Dear Rabbit, and Tuesday night at Walnut Room (Denver) with Chella Negro!

Also, as far as local shows, you "forgot" to metion local hip hop/reggae at the Black Sheep on Saturday. Bullheaded, Primo Blend, IB Hustles and Chuck City!!!

As the manager and programmer of KEPC I want to be sure you know Bill, we do backsell or frontsell every song when there is a student intern on the air. I push the importance of that to them every day. We have a playlist of over 6500 song titles from alternative and local artists. And it's a pleasure to be one of the only stations playing these local artists. The student personalities do a wonderful job of educating the listeners to new music. If there isn't a live person on the air, listeners know they can email me at any time and I find that music for them. Some of my students pointed out this article to me and they didn't appreciate your comment. We know the 13th century part was humorous, but give the Pikes
Peak Community College Radio and TV students credit for working hard when they are on the air.
Obviously you do listen at times Bill and we all appreciate that! We are the only place in town to find this variety of alternative and local talent. Many leave the Springs and continue listening on the Internet in their new town. But my guess is they didn't have that luxury in the 13th century! Glad they do today...and be watching for an extended playlist on our website soon for all those times you have missed the title and artist!

True enough brother... I've been playing here for a couple of decades and it is VERY hard to find jazz gigs that actually-P-A-Y more than 50-75 bucks a night here in C/S. I catch much more work in Denver and even Pueblo. That means working 100 nights a year and NOT pulling in 8K- hardly a wage to live on for a single person, let alone a family. I've found it exceedingly difficult to create your own thing when few C/S venues will take a chance on jazz. Perhaps worst of all, we now have some guys playing for FREE...FREE!...on Wednesdays around town. Hard to say its a "profession" if everybody thinks they can be a player and clubs keep hiring the wannabees...

This is a nicely written piece about this rising band. Chamberlin formed just last summer and is already booked for Wakarusa. They are headlining a show at Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont's best venue, so they'll be well-known in their home state soon. Thanks for being ahead of the curve and taking notice of them. "Bitter Blood" is a fine debut album and why Grace Potter called them the "band to watch for in 2011".
