Re: “Heading for the DNC in Philadelphia

Mike --

Hope to see you here in Philly, where my wife is a Hillary delegate and I'm hoping all the delegates remember the lesson of 1787: the need to compromise in pursuit of the greater good!

Best regards,

Re: “Venetucci Farm suspends sales until water tested

"To connect people with causes that matter by advancing philanthropy, creating legacies, and fostering community stewardship." That is the mission statement of the Pike's Peak Community Founation.

Venetucci Farm is a legacy that fosters community stewardship - plain and simple. The farm was deeded to the Foundation *to be a legacy in the community*. It is a living, breathing example of this mission statement come to life.

Closing the farm is a disaster. If the board members of the Foundation do not reopen this farm, they are showing the public that they are quite obviously ill-equipped to make good decisions with large amounts of donated money.

I hope that large-fund donors to the Foundation are paying attention to this situation.

Re: “Broadmoor makes move on city reservoir

Once again an entity of the city of Colorado Springs is in secret negotiations with the Broadmoor. Why would the city want to sell its water rights to the Broadmoor? Selling to another public utility? Yes. Selling to a private individual? No. If Bob Issac hadn't pushed in 1979 for incorporating the Broadmoor into the city and purchasing Rosemont from the Broadmoor, would we be having this conversation? If Anschutz gets his way will CSU sever service to the Broadmoor? Why continue it?

Is CSU following the philosophy of Parks & Recreation? If CSU can't maintain Rosemont get rid of it? What do the rate payers get out of this deal? Shouldn't it be up to the ratepayers to decide to sell "their" assets? "When you need to sell assets, whether a individual, family, business, or government, you're in deep financial trouble." Does $2.5B qualify for "Deep financial trouble."

But let's cut to the quik. Sell the entire city to Anschutz since he's already nickel and diming the city administration, kicking Anschutz up a couple of notches of the "What individuals can own more land" category. The city government can be disolved and the city renamed Colorado Springs brought to you the Broadmoor, an wholly owned subsidiary of the Anschutz corporation. The city's perimeter can be fenced negating anymore fencing being built by the Broadmoor. Filling potholes and repairing bridges would not be high on his priorities.

The pesky city charter can be dispensed with along with mayor, city council, and staff. The police and fire departments can be contacted out. An Anschutz board can be appointed to oversee the daily operations. No more self-aggrandizement committees on what they think the city should be.

What would be upside of selling the city to Anschutz? No property and sales taxes because there would be NO city government. Anschutz can impose his morally bankrupt economic and political philosophy on those who are left. He wants a libertarian life style. Now's his chance. After a few years he can join the economic/political successes of Kansas, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

Re: “Commentary: CSPD operates under a veil of mystery

The his whole debacle of the use of taxpayer funds to bankroll police abuse cases is part of the problem nation wide today. The city should not have paid for this obvious case of abuse. The officer should have paid, and his supervisors should have paid. And the remainder of funds should have come out of their pensions. We need to end the police union protection of the bad police by ending police unions and reinforcing the Public Service aspect of policing, not the self serving, "protect the police at all costs" attitude that prevails in some communities today. That must end.

Re: “Broadmoor makes move on city reservoir

Dont give our public & private lands to the Broadmoor! Our Mayor, and the owner of the Gazette, the Broadmoor,, AND 5,000 adjoining acres...are hiding the truth. Now they want MORE. There was NO VOTE to give our stunning Strawberry Fields parkland to the Broadmoor. Philip Anschutz & OUR Mayor DECIDED it was BEST for THEM. With unqualified appraisals, it was traded for worthless land 1 1/2 hours away. Have you seen the huge gates at 7 Falls? The public cant even drive in without taking a Broadmoor bus. They don't have OUR best interests in mind. They will LOCK US OUT. Demand transparency for our parks & water. Or let the Broadmoor take them away forever. Many are working to have a vote on this next April. Please See: SAVECHEYENNE.ORG

Re: “Springs shows up for racial justice, answering national call-to-action

Despite all their posturing and self-ascribed good intentions, SURJ is nothing more than another pack of racists. The very idea of separating people and placing different responsibilities on one racial group over another smacks of South African apartheid. The problems we have are not "white people problems," "black people problems," or "brown people problems." They are PEOPLE problems, and this finger-pointing mob is not helping.

Re: “UPDATE: Anschutz in bed with anti-LGBT forces

Who actually gives the SPLC, who in reality is a liberal hate group, any credibility anyway? They list someone as a hate group if they look at them cross-eyed.

Nevermind. The answer to the question is liberal kooks.

Re: “Broadmoor makes move on city reservoir

Bob: As long as the GOP runs COLO SPGS and El Paso County all that citizens can do is bend over. The GOP and the billionaires who own them consider anything within our national borders as theirs to play with and do with as they choose. The GOP will sell your city out from under you.

Re: “Commentary: CSPD operates under a veil of mystery

quote: ""I'm proud of our relationship with the community," Carey said."

this guy is soooo stupid he doesn't even realize THERE IS NO RELATIONSHIP...people in this town hate C.S.P.D. we had to pass conceal carry just so we could feel safe here. the police lie on reports and false report to their commanding officers, when they are caught doing wrong they get "now don't do that again" the police force here in Colorado HAS NO OVERSITE they can do what they want when they want. the state doesn't even have a department that over see local law enforcement.

Re: “Broadmoor makes move on city reservoir

I opposed the land swap because I thought it set a very bad precedent for more public land to be taken, and now this on it's heels. When do we just say "NO"?

Re: “Noam Chomsky endorses ColoradoCare

It is great that Noam Chomsky has taken up the cause of ColoradoCare. He has spoken on many issues with supreme and impeccable logic as he has here. He is unimpressed by hyperbolic vitriole, exaggerations and outright misinformation that is the modus operandi of the Koch & insurance company funded "think tanks". Most of what they present are fraudulent arguments based on the hysterical sentiments of conservative talk show hosts, more concerned about ratings than fact.
PLEASE check their website at ColoradoCareYes.co and be your own judge. See if Noam's appraisal is in fact serious, logical and sound. If you do, vote YES on Amendment 69!

Re: “Stop the damage, and free ride, from grazing of public lands

I commend Rep. Grijalva - at least he makes an attempt to DO something about this matter! But when is the public actually going to realize how corrupt the relationship between the BLM & these livestock producers is? The proof is there in this report and in many others. Its in the attitude of the lobbyists who push for more, more more! WWP has done so much to bring this to people's attention, but when are taxpayers going to wake up & see exactly how much WE are paying to allow these livestock CORPORATIONS to continue draining our public lands in order to feed their greed and profits? In the meantime, our wild horses & burros, the wolves, the bears, the mountain lions - all predators are being destroyed in order for these corporations to get every last dollar out of our public lands - OUR public lands!
