Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

I love on this list how people clicking like and dislike think they are voting in a new truth as if they could reverse God's creative decisions.

That is what Broadbent is attempting...he makes it up to be like he would have done if he were God, even though what he would have done is simply contrary to God's obvious will and purpose.

You can't change the truth by popular vote, as Colorado is now destined to see.

This pastor is just one of the false prophets that will come in the last days. The Californication of Colorado is moving at full steam.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Jesus warns us against idolatry, fornication, and murder...seems like the secular agenda claims all three...unquestioned tolerance is idolatry, fornication is any sex outside marriage (to include all gay etc. sex and this sort of adolescent sex advocated by the morning after pill) and murder, which is what abortion is pure and simple...so Guru and Zen...the final judgment is going to be calling you to repentance and amendment of life big tie...as well as me for my sins.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Secularism isn't new, TT, it was how our country was originally founded with Seperation of Church and State, so don't try to re-write history. It has only been since the 1980's when the evangical churches started a movement to insert Christian morality into our governmental laws. So why can't each and every person govern themselves instead of having to follow your brand of religion? Just because we don't want it in our governing laws doesn't mean we don't practice morality and personal spirituality in our homes.

From Wikepedia: Seperation of Church and State: Thomas Jefferson:

In English, the exact term is an offshoot of the phrase, "wall of separation between church and state", as written in Thomas Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802. In that letter, referencing the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, Jefferson writes: "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." Jefferson reflected his frequent speaking theme that the government is not to interfere with religion.[15]

The Bill of Rights was one of the earliest examples in the world of complete religious freedom (adopted in 1791, only preceded by the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen in 1789) but it was interpreted as establishing a separation of Church and State only after the letter of Jefferson (see section United States for more details). At the time of the passage of the Bill of Rights, many states acted in ways that would now be held unconstitutional, some of them with official state churches. All of the early official state churches were disestablished by 1833.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Zen...Denver Seminary? That explains why you are an advocate for the new secularism and not the Christianity of the Apostles. Your education is faulty and doesn't serve you well.

The religion of Jesus is one where God's love directs and rules our hearts toward peace now and eternity ultimately.

Your religion of permissiveness and self affirmation is a direct path to pain now and dysfunction in the future...not something a loving God would wish for his children.

God, as scripture says, has a special place for wolves in sheep's clothing like you.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

TejonTech, speaking as one with a degree in Religious Studies, who studied theology and ministry at Denver Seminary, and has worked in Protestant and Catholic church and para-church organizations, I can confidently and authoritatively say that you my friend are no Christ follower. You're a Pharisee. And a milk fed one at that. It's time to take back the church from people like you ... people who have overseen the largest single decline in US church attendance in history. If Jesus were to return today, I have zero doubt you'd be first to pick up a hammer and nail. You genuinely have no idea what you do. And for that, I just feel sorry for you. Grow up milk fed ... before it's too late. Good luck with all that self-righteous rage.

Mr. Weinstein is a joke and is only doing this to gain popularity in his otherwise useless life. People like this should not even get airtime or allowed to spew his hatred towards the god fearing people of this country. Mr. Weinstein you have the right not to beloeve but I along with millions of others have the right to assemble and profess our religious beliefs. I feel really sorry for you Mr. Weinstein, life is to short to hate and be so up tight. You are probably needing those workouts so you don't blow a blood vessel. May God bless you Mr. Weinstein.

Re: “The twisted road from Amendment 2 to 'I do'

As a person who moved here from Iowa, I feel Colorado Springs has many wonderful attributes, but tolerance isn't one of them. It never ceases to surprise me that with the amount of diversity here, it doesn't seem to be reflected in the voices of voters or public officials. I hope that in ten years, Colorado Springs has come even further in advancing social equality.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Apparently, TT has forgotten some of his childhood Bible Lessons while professing his doctrine of hate again. Picking on church folk and their minister- Shame on you!

John 8:1-12 The woman caught in adultry- What did Jesus tell the Pharisees? vs 7- He who is without sin cast the first stone. vs 11- Neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more. Why did Jesus say this when the Law of Moses said she should be stoned? Because Christ Jesus entered in the Grace Administration and we are no longer under the Law.

Romans 8:1- There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.

And my favorite: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity (love of god) I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal..(noises that hurts the ears because there is no love of God in the motivation- sound familar TT? )..13- And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three;but the greatest of these is charity.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

It is nice to hear a minister who doesn't believe anything and can agree with whatever warped view of God you have devised...and gives permission to behave any way you want like he does.

To take God out of the conversation imposes and establishes the secular/your point of view...how is that better than the view that has proven effective and life giving for thousands of years...are you smarter than all humans who have ever lived?

I am sure you do go to First Congo whatever feels good, make it up as you go Church...with worship led by the gay men's choir....groovy.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Oh yeah, and I admire and respect the Reverend Broadbent's views on gay marriage in his church and community. It is refreshing to hear from a religious leader in the community who is not hellbent on hell fire and damnation!

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

The problem seems to be that the straight-“religious” crowd believes they have the corner market on what is right or wrong, fair or unfair, just or unjust, holy or sinful and that they can impose those beliefs onto the rest of the population. And since many people do not worship the same god, with the same rules and interpretations, or any god at all, why don’t we just remove the whole religious/god part of the argument. Then the problem can be viewed as what it truly is – a civil equal rights issue. Don’t impose your interpretative beliefs into someone else’s life, and they won’t impose theirs into yours. Really, when it comes right down to it, how does gay marriage affect your life in any way, shape or form? Why lose sleep over this issue? What is your problem with EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL?

So basically, just because you've never heard it before, it's wrong? I invite you to a service, so that you can experience the "lightweight."

So when is Ben Broadbent going to defend his position here? His reasoning is theologically pathetic and needs substance, not feeling. What a lightweight.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

How boring Guru...your whole hate mantra...to believe that something is wrong is not hate...we are naming the sin just as Jesus did, there is no hate involved. That is the emotional BS ploy of the left to avoid having to argue the issue.

How well we all got along with the gays before they had to make their dysfunction a matter we had to approve...we could all feel hated if we tried to force people to approve our various sins and dysfunctions.

The message of the gospel is repentance and amendment of life, not permission to do whatever fallen behavior in which we want to engage.

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And thh second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Amen

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Maybe you should just read the Bible's NT instead of preaching your doctine of hate to fellow born again Christians!

Romans 3:19-26- Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteous of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; even the righteousness of God which is by the faith of Jesus Christ, unto all and upon all them that believe ( John 3:16- WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH) ; for there is no difference for ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jusus; whom God hath set forth to be propitiation through faith in his blood (Romans 10:9-10) TO DECLARE HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS THAT ARE PAST....

So, I have to ask you two scholars- If the Bible says WHOSOEVER, are you saying that there is an exception to this verse? That homosexuals are exempt? If so, then you are the one denying the power of the blood of Christ to redeem mankind from the sins of mankind and the sin that every single person is born into. If so, you are denying Christ.

You are denying any person that has confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as being a Christian, and frankly, I would not want to be you at the Judgement of God when he asks, "So, Why didn't you love all of my children?" (Acts 10:1-33- verse 15 states: What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.) I would continue, but I don't have time to teach you the full redemption rights we have received: Redemption- to buy back with a price (the blood of Christ as the final Passover Lamb), Justification- just as if you have never sinned, Santification- to set apart from sin, Righteousness- to be right before God.
Just like my rights as an American citizen, I will stand on my rights as a believer in Christ and there is nothing you can say that will change this fact!

Re: “Viewing civil unions from the pulpit

Rev. Broadbent, a question or two if I may please.

When the Bible teaches that "lying with mankind as with womankind" is not a good thing (OT), or when Paul writes to the early church stating the same thing, how do you reconcile the endorsement of same sex marriages?

Does your church pick and choose the teachings of the Bible that it likes, ignoring the others?
Do you just choose to ignore the teachings? Perhaps that's the same question.

Help me understand.
