Re: “What happened to heritage tourism in small towns in south eastern CO?

This story about how "fact free" conspiracy nuts have poisoned the well in S.E Colorado helps us understand the appeal of Cliven Bundy and his sons as they advance their lunacy further to the west. I had read the story earlier and am glad the Indy picked it up.

Re: “No Council for old men

This is a great article! I really appreciate it when people discuss the topic of young leadership, especially in our city of Colorado Springs. There many of us out here trying! In fact -- while not a city council candidate, I know of someone who perfectly fits the demographic of young leadership, has already been a leader in the community, knows how to work a room, and is always ABCing. Alex Johnson is running for the open seat as County Commissioner in District: http://alex-johnson.org/ He's a long time residents of the Springs, involved in our community, worked for Springs legislators, and with a small business too. He's definitely a civic minded millennial!

Re: “Censored!

Top censored stories? The true story behind 9/11 is and will continue to be the top censored story of this year and every year until everyone understands the magnitude and source of the deception. The guilty parties still operate freely 14 years after the carnage, and they continue to bring us deception after deception, which results in new lists of censored stories. 9/11 is our best opportunity to bring these deviants to justice, to break their insidious control, but it will never happen as long as the truth is censored. The Independent is clearly part of the problem when it ignores the 9/11 elephant in the room. Your November 23 article ridiculing Jim Fetzer's work on the Sandy Hook deception is more evidence that the Independent is not so independent after all, but just another in a chorus of parrots repeating the official stories we are supposed to swallow as fact, just like the 9/11 con.

Shame on you.

Re: “Censored!

And a major story could and should be: US Government continues to ignore Constitution and violates citizens Rights while shackling them with more laws on a daily basis. Experts predict everyone will be in prison by 2050. Preserve, protect and defend The Constitution is a hollow oath and violators never charged, recalled or slapped upside the head.
And- Too poor to start a business? Too bad. Unemployed should hurry up and die so President looks good on paper. Continues to stay busy regulating the f*ck out of everything.
Tell me- where is California's underground water supply?? Los Angeles takes melted snow from anyone and everyone between them and the Sierras so they can wash cars, water lawns and fill hot tubs.

Re: “Censored!

I am disappointed that Tim Redmond used a line in the Project Censored 2016 story release article that suggested we had been "veering off in the Looney world of conspiracies and 9/11 Truther territory". I went back and reviewed the top 25 stories for 2003 to the present. There were three news stories listed in the top 25 related to 9/11 out of 325 stories we published in that time period. This amounts to less than 1% of all the stories we ranked in the top 25 each year. This is hardly a "veering off in the Looney world of conspiracies that Redmond claims.

The three 9/11 stories we did cite were more than adequately sourced, including Deseret Morning News, FBI records, and transcripts from the Japanese parliament. All three had been completely censored by the US corporate media. The topics included how the FBI had no evident that Osama Bin Laden was involved in 9/11, coverage in Japanese news & TV regarding 9/11 questions from official transcripts in the Japanese Parliament, and news from Salt Lake City mainstream paper on how a university physicist was questioning the collapse of Building 7.

The Project Censored mission is to research and report important news stories that the corporate media ignores or censors. In that regard there are no forbidden topics including 9/11 and we stand proudly on our record.

Re: “Pikes tweak: Medical meth dispensaries to inject new life into Colorado Springs

Methamphetine hcl, Desoxyn, prescription meth. or, the alternative, dangerous street drugs, and the crime that comes with it. Desoxyn,Its perfectly legal and it saved my life. It Took a year of government money, your money, the doctors and myself to go through all the truely dangerous drugs available, and hours of counseling to find the perfect drug for me. Desoxyn. I had a prescription and it was the perfect drug in 5 m doses, 5 times a day for me. BUT, it cost my insurance $9-1200 a month, so my insurance dropped the coverage, so I was cut off quick. Isnt that ill advised for any prescription drug when orderd by a real doctor? Then I saw this ad . Not Funny in the slightest. Im forced to find meth on the streets or I slip back into depression and suicidal thoughts. Who cares right? I do. Here's why:
Im disabled, and cant live on disability alone. So I started school on the slim chance I could find a career that let me rid my life of any government help at all. I wanted back in the game of life. I have a rare disability. So properly medicated I am perfectly healthy friendly productive citizen. Without it, I m a wreck, and more of a burden on society. Seeing this ad , joke or not, felt like the gods finally heard my prayers, and I had a chance to be happy and healthy again. No more desperately searching for meth on the streets with dangerous strangers. No more worrying about getting caught and going to prison, which only makes it worse. These damn drug laws are the most harmful laws to society and Everybody knows it, yet no body is testifying or is protesting anymore. And were losing all our personal freedoms for it, by allowing a distorted government to decide whats best for society. Its cold and heartless on paper, and easy to forget unless its effecting you personally. Besides people writing these bs laws have a nice home, money, and aren't forced to buy their medicine by lurking on the streets.
Sure, you could argue meth is dangerous, it is if abused. But so is any drug. And alcohol is worse , and perfectly legal. The problem with this is the propaganda the press and police are allowed to fool us with. I know how much it costs to make meth, pennies on the dollar. I know how meth can easily ruin a life, but you can say that about any substance abuse. And my heart goes out to those who lost a loved one from meth abuse. But i got news for all of you , and I know what Im talking about. The public will always be greedy and selish and push the limits on anything they can, but not all of us.Those people had problems other than meth, and meth took the blame.
Its the propaganda police that has everyone so afraid of this perfectly wonderful drug, and its the lack of true scientific evidence, and the truth not being told to society that keeps us uninformed. its not societies fault, or responsability to babysit everyone that puts a pipe to their mouth. Heres a helpful fact where meth is the hero, and marijuana becomes your best friend. Meth is harmless when accompanied by marijuana. Its true.
If your addicted to meth , or just want to try it, smoke pot with it. Not only is the high much, much better, but any damage the meth may have caused to your brain, is no longer a problem. it is protected by the oils in marijuana. But you wont hear this in the news.

Most law makers, and the public like to drink socially so alcohol is legal. but more deadly than all the drugs combined. That , by its self is something people should protest. You cant stop anybody from abusing any substance, and you shouldnt have to.And ads like this are funny to some, and not others. Bottom line is you cant stop anyone from doing what they want. And trying to only makes things worse. I hope I do see an actual as like this soon. Till then, its it strange how someone can put a fake ad like this in the first place? The answer is no, not really, No one is Paying Attention.

Re: “Mr. Skorman's neighborhood

The Skorman complex is indeed the third corner of my triangular life... I love the books, gifts, wine, pizza and toys as much as anyone, especially in summer on the deck. However, this article spells out so many reasons why, almost 20 years ago, having moved to COS from the Twin Cities, I stayed, despite feeling alienated by the sheer magnitude of conservative institutions and people who didn't believe what I do. Little did I know that Richard helped found the Indy, a weekly must have in my newspaper loving home. He of course was my favorite Councilman, ever, not knowing he was behind the Stormwater initiative, an $11/year investment in our infrastructure I still don't understand why people didn't like. Patricia has quietly become part of the fabric of us, which I didn't know (thank you!), Richard was instrumental to TOPS... I am just so much more impressed with this man, I hate to think about him retiring. We are all so much better off! I really believe I would not have stayed here if not for what he did, right when I contemplated going back home. I hope everyone appreciates Richard's role in our community.

Re: “Mr. Skorman's neighborhood

GREAT piece and THANK you, J. Adrian Stanley and the Indy! I always tell people who have not yet discovered the joy that is Poor Richard's how-as a newcomer to the Springs in '86-I knew I would be able to stay in this community when I first went to Richard's. Thank you a million times over, Richard and Patricia and your wonderful staff for creating this wonderful place. But above and beyond that, thank you for being YOU and sharing your light with our community.

Re: “Mr. Skorman's neighborhood

Poor Richards got me through high school in the 90s during the height of the Colorado Springs culture wars. The movies and books that were available there were available nowhere else. I remember it as being a place where my gay family members could feel comfortable. In the early 2000s, it was a non-judgmental place where my mom was able to lead a support group for people with head injuries. Now, when I come back to Colorado Springs, I bring my kids to the toy store. (It's truly the best indoor toy store / restaurant during the freezing cold holiday season). I'm truly amazed by the legacy of Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator. While it would have been nice to have Skorman as mayor, I think he built and transformed this town much more than any one mayor. Lots of love and gratitude to Richard, Patricia, and their family and friends.

Re: “Mr. Skorman's neighborhood

Wonderful article! R. Skorman is a real treasure in our community. I don't go to his shops/restaurant/wine bar as often as I should. I am going to change that. All my holiday shopping is going to be at Poor Richards. Thanks for being such an asset to our town, Richard & Patricia. :-))
