Re: “To be frank...

Adrian's comment to Martin, "Some people feel ... Like City for Champions .... Here you had powerful people who owned ...etc " hits the bulls eye. The goal of City Leaders and URA property owners - primarily Jenkins - is to build skyscrapers for the 5% of the population who can afford to lease/buy condos and office space with an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico. It's hoped by the downtown business owners that the 5% will walk a few blocks to Tejon and spend mega dollars at their restaurants and retail stores. The downtown business owners are deluded. The 5% - including Jenkins - now live in the Broadmoor area and they aren't likely to relocate to downtown, no matter how many penthouses are built.

For Jenkins and City Leaders to accomplish their skyscraper goal they need an anchor. They want to build a stadium but - and here's their problem - they don't want to pay the $200M themselves. So they've concocted the TIF scheme to build a stadium using OUR sales tax revenue without asking OUR permission to do so and despite OUR disapproval and opposition to squandering revenue that should only be spent on necessary items, like paving the streets.

Thanks, Adrian, for making this observation, to which Martin replied, "Maybe I'm naïve". No, Martin is not naïve. She's favors building a stadium. And, as she also says, she favors raising taxes so that there's money available to pave the streets, water the parks, and the other things that city govt is supposed to do. We don't need more taxes to grow city govt. Don't build the stadium and instead use the $200M to pave the streets.

Re: “To be frank...

Jan, I honor your service to our community, your dedication for all of these years giving your time, talents and abilities representing your fellow citizens in the face of bigotry, small-mindedness and continual controversy.

I for the life of me can't figure out how we get people to run for an office that offers such a a bevy of fantastic perks, and $6,250 a year for the pleasure but I am deeply appreciative of your efforts.

Our rides together supporting the Bike to Work Day Breakfast events on the tandem have been highlights of my time here in Colorado Springs, getting the chance to share with you the beauty and possibility of our community together during the ride, even for the short morning hour was a always good for my heart and soul.

Looking forward to seeing the impact you will make in many other ways in the upcoming years, thank you for you being you.

Your tandem pilot,

Re: “Radio dazed

Gave this a listen the other day. If you like Sunday morning public service radio you'll love it. I did not.

The parking garage should be considered part of the museum.

Re: “The vision thing

Voting in this "village" is such a conundrum. The recycled old farts that continue to dominate municipal government are just repulsive to me. Suthers is nothing but another Republican crown prince. But in all honesty I have to admit, Makepeace is another "recycled" political figure from the past. Be that as it is, she has my vote. She may technically be a blast from the past, but she is progressive, inclusive and represents the future. Suthers is a place holder, like Lamborn who will placate the right wing and mire this community in more inertia.

Re: “Pedal pushers

Looks like the PPACG document I read was old. The new one does discuss protected bike lanes. Sorry! :-/

Re: “Pedal pushers

I read the entire PPACG document. I think most of its priorities are spot on regarding linking broken routes, but I still saw no mention of protected bike lanes in the roadways. Colorado Springs Urban Intervention is the only group that is mentioning this method of promoting bike travel. Bike paths are important getting you to commercial areas, but once there, people get nervous on a bike lanes sandwiched between moving traffic and parked cars. If you dont feel comfortable riding a bike lane with your kids, then its going to deter most recreational riders.…

Re: “Surreality show

WHO in Govt Watch paid $65K to get Collins off the city council? Is it known WHO are the members of Govt Watch? It's likely that Jenkins and Anschutz are 2 of the WHOs. How about asking these 2 City Leaders if they paid all or some of the $65K?. Is John Suthers, one of the City Leaders, also one of the WHOs?

As for Laugeson filing a complaint with the Denver Police Dept alleging Bruce assaulted her, my amateur legal advice is for Bruce to file a complaint with the Denver Police Dept against Laugeson alleging harassment.

Re: “Surreality show

there's something that I would like "Colorado Springs Government Watch" to look into.
Over the coming years,
Colorado Springs City Council seems to have promised to spend $ 1 Million to rebuild the Summit House atop Pikes Peak.
But I think that property belongs to a private party. It used to be the Hill family, who also used to own Seven Falls, and maybe the Cog Railway.
Please check if it is private property,
and if it is,
then explain why the City is giving them money.

Re: “Ban on conversion therapy dies in Colorado

I spent my teens and 20's desperately involved in "conversion therapy." I was a true believer. At 31, I had a girlfriend...but there I was, taking the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building and thinking the unthinkable. I just didn't see a way out. My truth was abominable to the Church and shameful to my family should they ever find out... While it's often called "reparative therapy," it almost destroyed me. Re: “Got the message?

The city has policies. They are not followed. The reason for not following them? We don't want to trouble the public with how the city is actually run: back channel deals, nepotism, and overpaid positions for unqualified employees. Didn't you get the memo?

Re: “Legally, it doesn't take much for a guest to stake a claim to your home

It a law that protects you if your roommate or landlord wants you out This prevents them from changing locks, taking your property or shutting off utilities. Only a Judge can order an eviction even if you have violated your lease nobody can bounce you out.

Re: “Tides of green

Maggies is a joke, impersonal service, rude budtenders and the shady aspects of an illegal buy. Move em in and out and take it or leave it seems to be the attitude of staff at Maggies. I'll take my business elsewhere!

Re: “Got the message?

It is amazing that the city council looks the other way on this. Public officials should use official email accounts for everything except personal business.

Re: “Collins criticized for K.C. buildings

OldCrank and Zen: Let's hope it's "OUT she goes" and that the power of this gang of slugs is indeed "diminishing." Yet, Collins remains very much on City Council. Voters in council District 4 will have their chance to remove her from office in the April 7 recall election—but only if they return their ballots!
