Re: “Driver in fatal crash was 'racing' for a parking space, police said

The other incidents were pedestrians clearly in the cross walk, with the right of way. In this case, as Dan May pointed out, Mel was jaywalking - not in the right of way.

Re: “Food truck cook-off starts Small Business Week off on a tasty note

The venders need to be better prepared. With like 300 servings ready to go as opposed to starting to cook when everyone gets there. The lines were horrendous last year.

Each one of them that used mustard needs to leave it to taster to add. (most of you were heavy handed with it).

Re: “Driver in fatal crash was 'racing' for a parking space, police said

It sure does look like favoritism.
An explanation that a member of the DA's office was on hand from the beginning sure doesn't explain why others have been charged while this man has not.
I'm sure Dierdorff is remorseful but that doesn't change what feels like harsher charges for others.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

The majority of Americans care. That's who cares.

So, what did the person in the vehicle directly behind Dierdorff, who he was "racing" for the parking space, say about the incident? Seems he would have had the best view of what happened.

Re: “I-25 Gap Coalition formed to spur widening project

And we need to lobby the General Assembly to re-up the State's Economic Development Commission corporate welfare program for the members of the coalition to receive millions in taxpayer subsidies so they can then convene a study that show raising taxes is the only way to get the project paid for.

Re: “George Winston denies 'father of new age' reputation

We would so disagree with your misnomer! You ARE the father of New Age Music. One does not need to be biologically involved to become a great dad... Thousands learned to love music through George Winston's December. Don't sell yourself short. You, your music and your purple socks are an amazing Treasure to Music itself!

Re: “I-25 Gap Coalition formed to spur widening project

Wait! Wait! We first need to waste $100 million on a couple studies that tell us what we already know. Then we need to find a contractor that will spend $500 million on 40 miles of pavement and four bridges.

Re: “Juniper Valley Ranch has a strong showing in 66th year

So what if they cannot spell "consume" or "consomme"? the writer called the area "red-dirt scrublands" when it is commonly referred to by us old-timers as the pinion-juniper country or "PJs" for short.
Highway 115 has a large population of deer and turkey so drive carefully especially at dusk. There have been an elk or two in the area as well.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

I hope the guy paid nothing. That way everybody gets what they want. The social justice warriors can complain about him not paying his fair share, while the anti-tax folks can get lathered up about the sorry state of our income tax laws.

Re: “Gazette reportedly lays off newsroom employees

The Gazette appears to be undergoing some sort of identity crisis. Oh sure we still see plenty of "old boy network" pieces that throw out the usual pro-developer/pro-mayor spin, but they are also now carrying the occasional leftist piece from the Washington Post. Their latest editorial hire is also a die hard progressive, which on the surface seems like a good way to shake some bats from the belfry, but it probably isn't going to be good for circulation in such a conservative area.

It is sad. But you can go to Stargazer's and probably see a George Winston tribute act........

Re: “More on fatal crash involving El Paso County GOP chairman

Dave H: Give me a break. You apologists all act as if the man killed was a hardened criminal and deserved what he got for jaywalking. Try getting that kind of a dent on you sub by banging your head. Day one of drivers ed classes state pedestrians always have the right of way.

The way you talk makes it sound like we should all be gunning it for jaywalkers to clean up our city. It's absurd. Had anyone besides the well-connected chair of the GOP--who made it a point to tell officers he had met with the DA the night before the accident--the perp would be awaiting trial on the recommendation put forth by the CSPD.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

The return he should or was shown when he was running showed 0 taxes paid. Yes its legal yes those low income folk that pay nothing is legal as well. Point is the hypocrisy of letters like this as well as the rhetoric from the right.

Re: “More on fatal crash involving El Paso County GOP chairman

Modern vehicle bodies dent VERY easily. And honestly, a dent like that does not take very much force at all. To say "with such speed" falsely implies he was moving very fast. Pretty shoddy reporting. But, since we know Pam's political slant, this is to be expected.

What Trevor Dierdorff was doing was perfectly legal. What Mel Tolbert was doing was illegal. Had Mr Tolbert followed the law, Mr Dierdorff would not have hit him. Any charges filed against Mr Dierdorff were only due to the collision, which again, had Mr Tolbert followed the law would not have happened, while Mr Dierdorff was following the law. And that is why the charges were dropped.

Re: “4/20 in the Springs was chill, same can't be said of Denver

It's a stupid event that should be done away with! If people can't behave like decent adults, then stop rewarding them with this inane celebration. Their childish behavior gave Denver a black eye, and a lot of filth. When are we going to stop pandering to these people?
