Re: “Where are the Trump populists?

It will be a refreshing change to see business and military people in the cabinet instead of the usual political hacks and social activists - neither of whom ever held a real job or ran a business that actually needed to make money.

Re: “Where are the Trump populists?

The Trump voters were conned. Simple as that. Stocks soared once the banksters realized how profits would soar sans regulations, taxes, or environmental rules.

Reagan is dancing in his grave. Heil Trump!

I particularly like TINKLE-down economics, where Trump and his buddies stand on tall building and pee on all of us while laughing!

Re: “The great big Postal Service lie

Mr. Hightower! It was an honor to meet you in San Angelo at a Dem Party meet arranged by my late, close friend, Perry Flippin. I had suffered a heart attack a few days earlier, and the heat at the crowded venue didn't help my condition, so I had to leave early...but back to the Postal Service. You are absolutely correct that the USPS has been torpedoed by the very competitors (can we spell UPS and FedEx?) through their minions in Congress who are bought and paid for.

I for one have had problems with UPS damaging a family antique then refusing to take responsibility for it, and FedEx ain't spotless, either. For my money the USPS is the only way to fly!

Re: “Sanders' rebellion is alive

When Vietnamized wrote:
“…this country has always been something of a socialist democracy.” …
he reminded me that the first three words of the Constitution are: “We the People”, not “Me the Individual”, or “It the Corporation”.
Bernie reawakened many Americans to the spirit of the Founders and their desire to make America a “more perfect union”. He reminded us that the government they established is aspirational, not confrontational, inclusionary, not exclusionary, and exists to make all citizens’ lives better, not establish an environment for protecting expanded Capitalist exploitation. Yes, this is a Democratic Socialist Nation, founded during the enlightenment’s heightened awareness of the Social Responsibility we ALL share in expanding the Common Good.

Re: “Sanders' rebellion is alive

I helped sponsor Mr. Hightower to speak to the Democrats in Tom Green County, TX prior to the 2012 election - I'm a huge fan, and I think he's exactly right. Bernie 'spoke' to all of us when he belabored the system for being corrupt and rigged for the rich. I would have voted for him without reservation. Now we have to avoid a Trump presidency and there is no way I'm going to split the vote. What would our world be like if the new President was favored by Vladimir Putin, his puppet master Aleksandr Dugin and owes millions to the Chinese banking system.

I strongly agree with NewTom that Bernie has had a positive influence on the Democratic platform and I would remind other readers that this country has always been something of a socialist democracy. We all pay for common services and infrastructure...as long as some anti-tax, debt-addled sequestering fool doesn't shut the government down again (are you listening, Ted Cruz?)

That's a reassuring thought. He strongly influenced the platform's Hopefully we'll get a election results that will put the government back to work rather than obstructing every good idea

Re: “Building a brand new Congress

You should loose "Progressive" because its an instant turn off to about half the population, and you should loose "Bernie" because he has been part of the system for 30+ years and who caved to the "system". If you just went after...say......house and senate term limits you might get further.

Re: “Paul Ryan’s spoonful of snake oil

So you're calling the same party that enacted TARP, and found it did nothing to help the economy out over saying no to more spending on nothing? So it's ok to simply not allow something to come up and be discussed but hear it out and have a vote is bad ? Under Harry Reid that's what happened, and he even put in to actuon the rule you are complaining about. What are you really upset about? That you can't get a spending pass to do what ever you want or that you have no other solutions to the problems facin the country.

Re: “Why Bernie can’t quit

Bernie still has a chance to influence the race, even if he doesn't win, like you said, he has energized the populace who want his policies enacted. I still think he has the best chance to beat the republi-cons in the fall.
