Re: “Colorado Springs Airport could get a boost

There is no reason to give taxpayer handouts to airports such as Colorado Springs. It may be underutilized, but it is not underfunded.

Re: “Green turns to gray

It would be interesting to compare energy use of this station versus a similarly manned station in another part of the city. Is there anyone looking at whether all these costly "green" initiatives ACTUALLY save money - versus just their PR claims? I wonder whether these huge buildings are really any more efficient than the older, much smaller, instances.

Re: “Stormwater management, burning wood for power generation, and more

Mr. Howell, you are absolutely correct about the reasons and rationale that voters employed when choosing Gardner over Udall. Udall's choice to bet it all on one issue totally backfired--he refused to listen to those that suggested it would--so he's now looking for wrapping paper and boxes.

Although disappointed that Mr. Gustafson suggests a large percentage of the consistuency is "dumb", I'm not surprised: when a conservative disagrees with a liberal about policy or legislation, he thinks they are simply incorrect, but when a liberal disagrees with a conservative, he often considers them willfuly ignorant, advancing a personal agenda and/or outright evil and subversive.

Re: “Cyber campaigning for Colorado Springs mayor

Sorry Amy, but you lost any chance with me when you chose to deceive the voters with the county commissioner term limit issue on the 2010 ballot. Correcting that deceit took four years and likely wasted countless dollars.

Ethically you just don't pass the smell test.

Re: “Green turns to gray

LEED certification is a complete and utter boondoggle and as more than a few real world results have shown, does not mean a building is any more green than more traditional constructions. LEED certification is just a way for a select few people to make money.

Re: “Cyber campaigning for Colorado Springs mayor

Until there are open debates for the citizens to ask real questions and the media shills removed from the process completely, nothing will change. I'm not talking about "....send your questions to our facebook page or twitter account and by the way we will not be taking questions from our audience..", but real face to face questions with follow-up questions.

i.e. "What is your position on a Retail workers bill of rights for Colorado Springs?" Or,"Who is bankrolling your campaign and how many outside groups are contributing? Their names and amounts, please. You not having to disclose is not an answer." Or, "Who will your loyality lie with? Your donors?" Or, "Will you sign a No Tax Pledge with Americans for Prosperity (Koch Bros. funded organization), or any other organization, like the current mayor did thereby hamstringing the ability of the city to raise revenue for necessary infrastructure?" Or, "Where do you stand on storm water infrastructure? How would propose financing it?" Or, "Can you support the Public Financing of elections? If not, why not?" Or, "What's your position on open primaries?" Or, "How do you propose paying for all the necessary infrastructure repairs without any new taxes? Bonds still have to be paid-off at some time in the future. Existing revenue and can you guarantee the revenue will be there?" Or, "What part of CSU would you be willing to sell off or privatize?" Or, "Can you support a Muncipal Utilities District with an elected board removing council from the oversight of CSU?"

We need to take the time whether it's 3hrs, 4hrs,or 10 hrs over 2,3,4,or 10 sessions. These questions and many more need to be asked of these candidates or this town will continue it's slide of being an 'also ran' with an Olympic museum, flyover country for venture capital funding and a big mountain.

Re: “Cyber campaigning for Colorado Springs mayor

Yes, but can they manage a city? If Bach enters the race, and he surely will, everyone can take cheap shots at his management style. But Makepeace is the only one who has been there and done that! Lathen dropped the Maketa problem in our lap. Suthers is well qualified to be Attorney General but has not indicated why he is running for our Mayor's position. Rumor has it that he is trying to find a position so he can eventually run for govenor or senator. He has already made some promises and deals which the public needs to see. I wonder if his transparency and those of the other candidates will force them to post their responses to the questionaires they receive. Will he stand by his anti-gay marriage and anti-marijuana campaigns? That should set Colorado Springs back a few years. I can't wait to see them all on stage together. No, I'm more conservative than you and I will reduce the government by 1/2. I will reduce it by 2/3. No, I will get rid of it all together and just use our police force. I'll use the National Guard. Then Netflix will make a movie here: Colorado Springs "When dinosaurs ruled the earth". Leaders lead in a direction, anti goes no where! Buyer beware!

Re: “Updates on Mikey, Klingenschmitt

You know what I was thinking about today?

Mikey's followers are no different than those 14-year-old girls who tweet death threats at anyone who says anything even slightly critical of Justin Bieber. They call them "Beliebers."

Like, Akiva's whooooole long post up there? Is not really any different than some teenager in Dubuque, Iowa tweeting "Shut up b----, I hate you! I LUV U JUSTIN, BELIEBER 4 EVER" to a reporter who's taken a photo of Justin Bieber leaving a strip club. Mikey has "Beliebers" of his own.

The frightening thing is that Mikey's "Beliebers" have already (ostensibly) grown up. This isn't a phase they're going through, that they'll grow out of when they turn 16 and get their driver's license. That's kind of sad. :(

Anyway. This has been stimulating but I'm bored now. My work here is done. Happy holidays to all and to all a good night!

Re: “Updates on Mikey, Klingenschmitt

OK, got it. Debbie (whoever she is) doesn't like Mikey, therefore: Christian fundamentalists can proselytize without restriction. If required, they can withhold promotions.

Sounds bad for her when boiled down this way, but it’s kinda that way, except for good people like Mikey. MRFF protects everyone from the zealots, and we need more toleration for different beliefs, not less.

Re: “Updates on Mikey, Klingenschmitt

For most of us with some modicum of internet experience understanding the mission of trolls like “Debbie” is second nature. Like other trolls, “Debbie” isn’t overly concerned with facts or “truth,” she is invested only in chaos and to that end uses vitriol, half-truths, outright lies, innuendo and slander, while at the same time playing the victim. From the outset “Debbie” lies about her identity (no, it wasn’t that difficult to ascertain this), then strings together a whole litany of innuendo and slander. “Debbie” also vainly attempts to legitimize her spurious claims by implying that she was once a supporter of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation until she made certain discoveries about Mr. Weinstein, the Founder and President of the MRFF. Of course this ridiculous attempt to legitimize her many canards is laughable.

I refuse to waste my time exposing one by one the long list of this troll’s lies, let alone the glaring thinking errors that serve to highlight “Debbie’s” own psychological issues; however, I will happily point out a few of “Debbie’s” laughable assertions. “Debbie” claims that Mikey Weinstein is not permitted within the walls of the pentagon without prior congressional approval, and she claims that no serious publication is interested in the Constitutional, legal and military regulation violations perpetrated by radical Christian Fundamentalists within the U.S. Military which Mr. Weinstein so adroitly illuminates; both assertions are both laughable and patently false (of course “Debbie,” along with her fellow Fundamentalist Christian extremists learned from Roger Ailes and Fox News that it doesn’t matter how outrageous the lie is, as long as you repeat it over and over again foolish people will begin to believe it), particularly given the fact that leading up to the recent Congressional hearing wherein Mr. Weinstein provided testimony, the Washington Post contacted Mr. Weinstein for an interview and subsequently published an article that featured only Mr. Weinstein and his work with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, no other witness or member of the Congressional panel.

“Debbie” also implies that Mr. Weinstein’s footprint within social media reflects his influence within Washington D.C. and the Pentagon; obviously this assertion is ludicrous on its face, just because a Congressman/woman or General doesn’t “like” Mr. Weinstein on Facebook doesn’t mean he or she doesn’t take his calls.

Finally, I would like to address a couple of issues related to Mr. Weinstein’s compensation. Everyone knowledgeable regarding the facts knows that Stephen Losey’s article about Mr. Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation was a hit piece; even Daniel Borochoff , the President of Charity Watch, bemoaned the article’s purposeful omission of certain facts provided by him to Mr. Losey.

Mr. Borochoff wrote:

"Mr. Losey, for whatever reason, failed to include my comments to him that defended higher salaries for certain nonprofit executives, regardless of the size of their budget. I told him that nonprofit organizations must consider the necessary skills, education, and experience needed for the job when setting nonprofit pay levels. And that the size of the group's budget is not the most important factor and may not even be a significant factor in setting pay levels. For example, It makes no sense to compare the salaries of a nonprofit manager that supervises an after school recreation program with one that oversees complicated medical research, regardless of the budget size of each organization.

I told Mr. Losey that if a nonprofit needs to hire someone with your background and experience, who can work the extremely long hours that you do, than it would be reasonable to pay a large salary. It certainly would not be easy for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation or any other charity to hire a new chief for much less money that was a former White House legal counsel, legal adviser to a billionaire Presidential candidate, able to work 80 hours or more a week and also willing to take the abuse and even put his life on the line for a controversial cause such as religious mistreatment in the military."

Of course Mr. Borochoff doesn’t even address issues such as the fact that from February 2004 until December 2005 when the Military Religious Freedom Foundation was founded, Mr. Weinstein and his wife, Bonnie, worked full time on this cause without any form of remuneration and that Mr. Weinstein incurred huge debts funding the Foundation, including credit card debt and multiple mortgages on his home, or the fact that there have been years when Mr. Weinstein has taken only partial salary or no salary at all.

As a financial supporter of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation and the volunteer Director of Veteran Affairs for the Foundation, I 100% support the mission of the Foundation, as well as the work of Mikey Weinstein and his very appropriate compensation. In regards to funding and Mr. Weinstein’s compensation my only regrets are that we are not yet bringing in more donations to this righteous cause and that we aren’t yet able to compensate Mr. Weinstein at a higher and more appropriate level as befitting his education, wealth of high-level experience (including his work in the Reagan White House), overwhelming workload and supreme effectiveness. After all, if Mr. Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation weren’t succeeding in defending service members and veterans against the onslaught of religious oppression and spiritual rape by Fundamentalist Christian extremists, people like “Debbie” wouldn’t waste their time trolling the comment sections of articles like this one. The enemies of the U.S. Constitution and religious liberty are many, and they are determined to continue their attacks on people of good will, along with the people’s dedicated defenders, like Mikey Weinstein.

Perhaps “Debbie” and her Fundamentalist Christian cohorts should seek out their own scriptures for exhortation. Proverbs 12:22 reads, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”

P.S. Unlike "Debbie" I'm not afraid to use my real name.

Re: “Updates on Mikey, Klingenschmitt

As Major McGaa illustrated, righteous religious zealots of every religion have inflicted unspeakable horror, violence, injury, and death on their countless intended and unintended victims, all in the name of their god... Count me as one who supports Mikey Weinstein and his MRFF against those who would impose their version of god on others, in the name of the god they tout. Those who seek to use the US government to advance their Christian agenda misunderstand our history and defy our Constitution!

I urge all to not berate the person Mikey for the important work he does.

debbie6487, I certainly do not appreciate being called a "personality-disordered mouth-breathing zealot." I am an active duty Air Force colonel with nearly 25 years of service; I support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic; I have two master's degrees and a PhD in history and national security; and if you bemoan Weinstein's "tearing apart" of his critics, please recognize that their arguments generally deserve just that. Any capable and objective scholar would take Klingenschmitt to town on a rail of logic and Constitutional principles, but it wouldn't matter...he won't hear it. Apparently, neither will you.
