Re: “City ballot issues: Just say YES to all three

Looks like the Independent has no issue spending people's money. TABOR should be refunded if not used for the purposes it was raised to do.

You whine about a "small" tax for city parks. Really? No such thing as a small tax. Independent should support government staying out of our pockets. Any idea how much the lottery already provides the city for parks? Might want to look into it before you start whining about the Mayor not wanting to add additional taxes.

Item 3 needs to go away. This is another tax hidden as a fee. Don't buy the hype that it will help make our city better by creating motivation for Comcast and Centurylink to provide better service. They both make the claim regularly that they have already run the fiber that isn't here and have no plans to run it anytime soon. Should they decide to, who do you think would pay for it? There was already a large increase in Franchise Tax this year and another one coming next year. Enough is enough.

Yes on 1. No on 2 and 3.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

nschutz bought the Gazette and is now using the newspaper's editorial page to hand-pick his own City Council. Anschutz opposes Richard Skorman, Jill Gaebler and Yolanda Avila because they had the courage to oppose his land grab of city park land.

His message to our public officials is simple: Do as I say or I will use my newspaper, my money and my connections to bury you.

Vote for Skorman, Geabler and Avila if you want a City Council responsive to the citizens of Colorado Springs.

If you want a Council owned lock-stock-and-barrel by Anschutz and The Broadmoor, vote for Fowler, Crow-Iverson and Hendrix.

Anschutz and The Gazette have made the decision just that easy ...

Re: “Opposition researcher looking into Council race

And Mr. Gentry,

Can you PM me with the full contact details on Mr. Falili that you have redacted in your post?

I am quite sure with a minor amount of research, there will be a local connection.

Re: “Opposition researcher looking into Council race

A "Failing" Campaign for The CSF/Developer Candidates: Looks realistic. It is not dollars that win elections. It is what is marked down on the ballot. Looking back through the financiasl an interesting thing is observable:

- - - The Big Money candidates of Iverson-Fowler-Hendrix-Basham all have big donations from a very limited number of donors. HBA-CSF-Nor'wood-Lane-LaPlata-Johnson, etc. But those candidates have a very low number of private donors. (Votes count)

The non-Big Money candidates have impressive funds - but from many more donors - if votes count - then it looks as if CSF may have cause to be concerned.

Gaebler (wide public support) About 230 private donations. -0- Big Money donations.

Iverson has only 22 private donations. 21 Big Money donations.

Skorman (wide public support) About 210 private donations. -0- Big Money donations.

Hendrix has only 20 private donations yet has 16 Big Money donations.

Fowler has only 9 private donations. 14 Big Money donations.

Basham is at the bottom. 5 private donations. 13 Big Money donations.

Mrs. Collins is not big on fund-raising but she did, as you have stated earlier, beat Deborah Hendrix once - and then survived the Hendrix-led recall.

Obviously these numbers will change - but as of 8:00 pm on 10 March - that's the score.

The Take A Way: Looks as if the 'non-CSF/Builder' candidates have more wide-spread support, including the incumbents - thus more potential votes to win and the Big Money candidates will be able to go back to their day jobs on April 5th.

In Mailers now that the ballots have dropped?

In what is a continuing series of 'Push Polls' as the ones targeting Richard Skorman that are not being conducted and that nobody is paying for?

In TV ads?

You only resort to sleaze when you have nothing substantial to offer and you fear your campaign is failing!

Interesting dot connecting.

My dots:

Who has the money to pay for high-dollar DC operatives?

How much has been spent by whom to take over council?

Re: “Opposition researcher looking into Council race

The Indy broke a story from Ms. Zubeck third week of Dec 2016 about concerns Council Member Gaebler had about 'mPACT' a local group working to secure the services of a professional lobby organization in Washington DC - and brought up the need to use city funds to assist with the pay for a grant writer for 'mPACT' - with the grant writer being Whitley Crow, the daughter of Lynette Crow-Iverson.

Lynette Crow-Iverson is the candidate heavily funded by the development community and Colorado Springs Forward to run against Jill Gaebler.

By the first week in February, 2017 - - an 'investigative researcher' in Washington DC is looking for details on Ms. Gaebler and her tenure with her former employer through formal CORA request to the city?

In conjunction with a similar request for information on the ethics issue that resulted in a failed recall attempt of Council Member Collins by another candidate in this years council race funded by who: the development community and Colorado Springs Forward - formerly chaired by Lynette Crow-Iverson.

Deborah Hendrix is the candidate heavily funded by the development community and Colorado Springs Forward to run against Helen Collins.

This week featured a rather interesting op-ed piece from the Gazette; basically a 'hit piece' on council candidate for District 3, Richard Skorman who is being challenged by Chuck Fowler. The comments following the op-ed 'hit piece' have been running heavily critical of the article and seemingly very supportive of Mr. Skorman.

Mr. Chuck Fowler is the candidate heavily funded by the development community and by Colorado Springs Forward.

Coincidences happen.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

Thank you Matt. There is another one not quite up to 'politically correct' standards - with $266,000.00 being thrown at this city council race - and $175,000 of that coming from the developer community - hopefully people are asking why are the developers working so hard and spending so much to control council?

Re: “Follow the money in the Springs' city election

This election is big for Colorado Springs! A lot of seats up for election this year. Obviously one group is trying to buy this election! Don't be a sheep and just vote for (R) or (D) know who you are voting for and why. Do you want a council that is in the back pocket of big money, to do as they like to this city? I'm 100% sure some of this $$ is to insure that the Utilitie boad can be hand picked. Why? To make sure Anschutz get his land. strawberry fields, emeral valley, and soon to come Rosemont reservoir.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

Mr. Stein and Ms. Zubeck have done an excellent job in tracking the money in the city council election - When one 'blows away the smoke' the amount of dollars who is getting from whom makes an interesting visual. Check it out.

Re: “UPDATE: Is Richard Skorman really in bed with 'Big Marijuana?'

This is a spot on analysis. Richard gets my vote. I used to write for a newspaper called The Bottom of the Bird Cage. As owned by Anschutz, the Gazette has become my chief contender for that location.

Re: “Resident suggests plot be labeled 'Suthers Park'

I am calling on John Suthers to admit publicly that he was mistaken when he repeatedly claimed that the land swap was good for the community. Why has the Mayor refused to respond to yet another email that I sent to his office just this week? The City cannot accept the appraisal that the Broadmoor submitted for that deal. You can see my most recent email that the Mayor has ignored at the Facebook page I manage COS Land Swap. The questions and facts in that email are legal questions and cannot be ignored by the City.

Re: “Resident suggests plot be labeled 'Suthers Park'

Wonderful- Suthers Park!! He worked hard for it so he should have the credit. Let's start a petition to name it that. I will gladly donate the ribbon and scissors for the opening ceremony, as well as a plaque for his name. I will also provide a photographer to memorialize the momentous occasion. I assume the parks department has plans to update the abandoned structure (Suthers Hall ) on the property where we can hold his reception.
Great idea!

Long may Suthers Park be free and open to the public! This is a brilliant piece of work.

Thank you for printing this! Satire is one of the truest art forms, and this letter is brilliant. Suthers Park has such a nice ring to it, and will preserve his legacy in perpetuity!

Want to read an erotica/ fiction ebook by a local lesbian author set in Colorado Springs? Check out "Adventures of a GWF REBORN" on amazon. I really think our local LGBT would enjoy it highly to read about being gay in the 90's in CS back in the day!
