Holding a yearly bicycle race that mimics the Hill Climb would be cheap and easily marketable. It would probably be a very prestigious crown to wear and one that would soon attract world class riders with little city/county investment required.
What is wrong with these people, lets fix our streets, bridges, parks and so on! We do not have enough water to cover things now. So lets rebuild the Peak, put in an arena, and hotels for great hordes of people who come to our state. First of all we are not the capital Denver is and they have water. We on the other hand have limited resources and these guys will raise our utilities or tax the crap out of us so they can pad their portfolios! We need to pick a person that listens to the people and when we say NO, we do not get items shoved down our throats until they pass. These people need to remember they work for us and not them selves.
You are kidding right? Tell me this is a hoax of some sort. It is a mountain and it sits there. It has a name. The end.

and now this guy has set his sights on becoming mayor of Colorado Springs...??? I would suppose if someone could get something done this might be the guy. It would be nice to see the immature soap opera finally end and all the "maybe we can be another city" earthship idealists silenced. All the BS in city government right now could fill every pothole... and maybe they can stop blaming Doug Bruce for everything (you know, that guy that did not like taxation without representation but you did).
I will let someone else post Mary Lou Makepeace' resume whom I assume the Indy! will favor. This riveting factual article was quite informative about absolutely nothing. The Indy staff of investigative reporters are squarely on top of the colored circle thing which helps decide how many percents it takes to make a round thing. And if your name does not fit in your slice then you know you are a loser.
Thanks to Mayor Bach many people do not have to get out of bed in the morning and go to work for the city. He says, "Look I am going to fire me too!" The man that saved our parks from burning down by enacting a cigarette ban. Pure genius. He will probably go to work for the Olympic Committee. Or not.
Manitou residents and outsiders alike enjoy these festivals which only shut off traffic in town short term. They definitely represent the colorful spirit of the mountains and Manitou. CS Indy you get an F for thinking Tim Haas represents anything about Manitou. He inherits daddy's business so full of tourist crap their is no reason for a local citizen to ever buy any of his wares. Tim is so bad at picking product mix one of his stores has been up for sale for months. Tom doesn't represent Manitou at all. He personally started the very divisive anti-retail pot campaign which he lost 66% to 33%. SO dear CS Indy of you are going to quote anybody about Manitou , you pick a horrible retailer who inherited his businesses and could care less about the locals....shame on you !
Retailers aren't adding up everything here. Maybe they don't sell as much merchandise on the day of the event but the recognition and returns business isn't being quantified and that's the life blood of a business. Those people will be back another day and the event does more to heighten awareness than anything the retailers are doing. "Keep Manitou weird" is the best draw they have. If they have a seasonal business then that's a business model problem they should address. What are they doing to draw thousands to Manitou in the middle of winter? Nothing.
Fund-raising capability aside and based purely upon perceived administrative ability and ability to squarely face the needs of the region and find solutions, which of the mayoral candidates would you prefer to see as the next mayor of Colorado Springs?
Suthers would be Bach ver 2.0. He is also a prohibitionist. We need to get past the 1930's mentality that is holding CS back.
revelations in last year.
budget had gone up for fleet services.
local parts suppliers are being supplanted by suppliers from other states or city's.
(supporting jobs in those areas with our tax dollars) .
council had Serco employee on it.
Serco tried to run fleet of fire trucks in California nd was given the boot shortly afte.
Serco ran Dallas fleet and was booted after a short while
memorial health is exploding costs due to pera silly ness.
more than I can say here many many things have proven to be not as they seemed.
so will we get third lawsuit for the city fleet Pera staff that were kicked to the curb? or did the memorial deal teach them the way to skirt any obligation. glad to see the myopic mayor moving along with stunningly brilliant decisions. so even if c4c could work the origin of it and the people pushing it seem to be inept. can we just push pause and look at every single decision he has made before implementing policy that will cost far more than it saves, at every turn he looses money to lawsuits or offshoring!! see you tube "Serco the biggest company you have never heard of " they run our fleet, and an aspect of Obama care.... wonder if Bach even looked at the company before accepting bids.
Sounds like just one more example of the more powerful moneyed interests trying to use government to drive out the little guy so they can seize (financial) control. Same thing's happened in medical marijuana with home-based caregivers. Same thing has happened with lawyers trying to control mediators. Same thing has happened with the psychological community trying to ban unlicensed therapists. Fortunately the little guy in the yoga community has an ace to play ... Link your training to religion. They can't touch you.
LOL. Joel Miller 2%. What an obstructionist douche.
You've probably heard, but this bill passed the Senate Education Committee today, unanimously. No angry yogis. Just passionate and intelligent. The committee was welcoming and polite and respectful. More details and photos (including Sen Owen Hill performing an arm balance on the platform) on Facebook.
I am sure amy would have preferred to have the poll contain misleading wording that confused the hell out of everyone on purpose as she has done before. she might have a chance that way.
Here something to STRONGLY consider. Small drones with electric motors, with landing pads placed in various locations within the city, they could be anywhere within a couple minutes if they were strategically placed. Also, with the military using them, get them involved to train and evolve their troops. Electric motors have zero maintenance compared to gas powered vehicles, and could be made very quiet. To me there is NO comparison. I ran vehicle repair shops for almost two decades, maintenance and the insurance and upkeep will kill ya.
"Brittain clearly enjoys the attention. And the way he sees things going, he'll always be able to get it."
Clearly he doesn't. Brittain has applied to have HIS pictures removed from the internet. Baby can dish it but not take it.
What an interesting person this seems to be. Every poll points to how well she is doing holding up 3rd place in the race -- trailing far behind Ms. Makepeace, yet convinced she is winning. 7.75% is a point at which one would seemingly see the writing on the wall and get out of the race. Braggng on FB about a poll you are 'leading' because you are really stroking social media to get your supporters to log on and vote for you is kind of like a flea thinking it is an elephant.
Amy Lathen for Mayor of Colorado Springs
Amy is currently leading in the Gazette's latest Mayoral candidate poll! Please go vote if you haven't already and stay tuned for the final numbers.
My grandfather, Gerome Torribio, was a first generation Italian immigrant living in Trinidad during the 1920s. One day the Klan marched downtown where he worked in a hardware store. He spotted the mayor in the parade, and called out, "Hey, Mayor, why are you hiding in that bedsheet? I know you from your worn-out brown shoes!" That night, the Klan burned a cross on the top of Simpson's Rest behind his house. That's a family story we are proud of--thanks for this article.
If parents would be more active in their child's lives, then children like Isaac Grimes, would have shared more with their parents instead of being afraid to talk to them about the evil that is the essence of Simon Sue, especially if he was afraid of Simon, as he should have trusted in the fact that his parents are his protectors, not vice versa. And he wouldn't have had as much time to spend with Simon as he would have spent more time doing father-son activities, like fishing, bowling, camping, etc. And he could have gone to the police, but he wanted to be a thief and killer, no doubt in my mind. Instead of asking the judge for mercy, I think Isaac's parents should take responsibility for their son's actions and be allowed to lessen Isaac's sentence by serving time alongside their son. Let them put their money where their mouths are, so to speak. Let them each serve 20 years and Isaac can be freed. I'd be happy with that. But they wouldn't, even if it was offered to them, because they were too selfish to be good parents.
The independent (which in no way can be described as independent OR a newspaper) always tags Doug Bruce with "anti-tax activist" and makes it and him sound sinister. Similar to someone exercising their Fifth Amendment Rights on a television show or movie. The viewer knows the character is guilty and "taking the Fifth" is as bad as saying a suspect "lawyer-ed up". Amazing how the phrasing of something can alter the view of the basis of our free country. Your Rights are viewed by authorities as a nuisance and many citizens feel we do not need Rights or they should be adjusted out "common sense". I know very few that have or practice "common sense". The American Revolution fought by those old long forgotten colonists was about taxation. Doug Bruce has been attacked by government for authoring a tax bill that passed called TABOR. The Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR) Amendment, took away government's unlimited power to tax citizens without their consent! Government has been harassing Bruce ever since while the indy and its "writers" show Bruce the same disrespect. So we know that The Independent and Hazelhurst et al want to pay more tax because they want to and want us all to as well. The way they refer to Bruce it would seem so.
It is just manipulation and phrasing is important. Ever hear a cop ask to search when he has no cause or warrant? He will say, "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear". He is trying to get you to give up your Rights. The Bill of Rights is all you have. I suggest you all ignore this media manipulation, seek out the truth for yourself and hang on to your Rights. Too many have erroneous beliefs created by media and the tags, phrases and the frenzies they create. I would also suggest visiting douglasbruce.com and learn something. He is not what you read in the indy. I do not know him and have talked to him once on the phone. He was a bit gruff just so you know I am not promoting anything other than Rights and fairness.
