As a Utilities rate payer I strongly object to subsidized watering for City Parks. I had to get rid of my lawn because I cannot afford to pay the price it costs to water it. The City needs to find a reasonable solution and not expect money from specific Utilities services to be taken and used for the municipal parks. It is hard to come to grips with this issue but in the end we live in a semi-arid biome and have suffered incredible drought in recent years. Find a way to fund watering parks without robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I LIKE the fact that EPS will provide the county an "outsiders" opinion to balance and perhaps dampen the "insiders" highly optimistic estimates of how many new out-of-state tourists will come to COS because we have built for their enjoyment a stadium/museum complex.
I went to the link and read about the Copper Ridge shopping center/road development. The county commissioners were wise to follow EPS assessment and nix this private/govt deal.

Our city council members represent US. Do you have questions re the stadium, the museum, or the federal owned AFA visitors center, or the state owned UCCS medical tourism project? Let our council members know what you think of assuming a 30-year obligation to pay principal and interest totaling $350M on the issued bonds. The taxpayers will be paying 80% of the cost of building C4C. Will building a stadium/museum complex bring economic prosperity to anyone other than the property owners and developers? We need to know ALL the financial details. We need to know ALL the potential benefits and ALL the certain financial risks. And the mayor needs to keep his promise that ALL bonds will require voter approval before being issued. The Gazette said today that the building they own is located at 522 South Wahsatch (not North).
This is not the day for champagne toasts, unless you're the mayor, the property owner or the property developer. The rest of us, we taxpayers who will be on the hook to make payments on $350M in bonds to be issued - an amount in addition to the $120M which will hopefully be received over 30 years from the state - are not celebrating. Today we have witnessed state govt granting COS sales tax rebates in full as requested. The state - who has no obligation to make the payments on COS bonds - has cleverly found a way via the EDC of luring otherwise fiscally conservative cities to make financially reckless decisions.
And what of the will of the people, those who will be paying for almost all of C4C? Do the citizens want C4C? Do they know what the cost is to them and their obligation for paying? Do they know that the city's borrowing power will be used up by C4C and that essential needs, such as storm water, will require a tax increase? And, if sales tax revenues above the C4C base point are not realized, do they know that taxes will have to be raised? The citizens have not been told about the financial risks of building a stadium, museum, etal. Will the citizens be allowed to vote of the bond issue, as the mayor promised? Will the Gazette inform the citizens of the financial risks involved? And will the Indy ignore its reportorial duty and get on the bandwagon? Or will the Indy report all the facts, the economic benefits as well as the financial risks?

Congratulations to the City for Champions’ applicants for their accomplishment in getting the project partially funded by the RTA. But, be careful of what you ask for. The approval is still contingent on showing a viable financial plan to pay for the projects. Working with a political body who disregarded the recommendations of impartial 3rd party evaluators and their own senior executive is very different from what you will find here. We expect the truth and the whole truth. We expect to see the financial documentation that demonstrates clear and concise expectations of success. Not, build it and they will come. We will not allow unproven soccer franchises as anchors to this stadium project. In reality, we know that the RTA funding will not pay the interest on the $250 million for the entire project. Therefore, we had better have a comprehensive backup plan to cover the first few years of negative profits for these projects. Ok gentlemen, pony up to the bar and show us that this is not our tax money going into someone’s crystal ball. The ball is now in your court. By the way, don’t short change us and forget the stormwater requirements that this City of Champions project is expected to cover.
This is very welcome news on this otherwise bad news day. Bully for Callicrate. I'm a frequent shopper at the El Paso location, which is close to my home, and hope, as I'm dependent on RFD for cat food, bacon, eggs, liverwurst, etc., that the El Paso outlet will continue in operation. I also believe that a public market downtown is JUST what the doctor ordered to revitalize sodo and provide a much needed food source for the urban dweller.
What were the privacy violations? Why are law enforcement officers looking at the registry for legal patients?
