Re: “Happy misnomer

I found the Dresden Files Bob the Skull silver necklace with red or blue cz eyes. I was hoping you can help me find Bob the Skull Pez dispenser.

I want to give these to my soon to be 29yr old son who has read all of Mr. Butcher's books from the start.

My son and his beautiful wife attend all new book signings. Please help me if possible. I have searched everywhere.

Re: “What's the plan?

Who gives a rat's a.. about a plan for the Federal government?

All that is important is that our local representatives are executing plans to prevent - and performing the training to mitigate - the most likely disasters that will impact this area. This includes flash flood/runoff mitigation, and urban/wilderness wildfire suppression.

Unfortunately I have seen some hand-waving, but little progress, towards either threat.

Re: “Mad Max rides into the West

Mad Max: Fury Road, was nothing but another brainwashing exercise, dressed in the usual attention deficit disorder genre of today's movie media.

Do not be told what to think. Think and act according to your own experiences/values.

I'M STILL WAITING: Texas Pastor Says He Will Set Himself On Fire In Protest Over Gay Marriage

The pastor made the bold declaration during a conference call with a former Virginia GOP politician that he would rather burn himself to death than sanction same-sex marriage.

Re: “Road Trip Hike - Hankins Pass

This was an amazing hike! Not just the hike, but the drive, too. We ate at the pizza place at Lake George. The drive was just beautiful, offering just about everything. And the hike was absolutely one of my top hikes. Ever! Thank you, Bob!

Re: “Dylann Roof's teachers, Bernie Sanders' chances, and more

asawatcher, you have mixed up my posts with those of Dave H, and you missed the sarcasm. I certainly do not believe that hurting someone's feelings is just as bad as murder. I am surprised anyone would take such an outrageous statement seriously.

Re: “Dylann Roof's teachers, Bernie Sanders' chances, and more

Mr H;
I do not need to “brush up on analogies”, or “refine” or reword them to suit your preconceptions.
————
Dave H writes:
“Confederate flag flyers are not an organization nor do they belong to any particular belief. To assume that a person who flies the battle flag embraces racism is incorrect.”

I did NOT reference “Confederate flag flyers”. I pointed to “organizations that promote beliefs”. Don’t change my words, and then argue against YOUR changes in an attempt to discredit what I wrote.
————
Dave H writes:
“To assume the Second Amendment proponents embrace or advocate murdering people is likewise wrong.”

I did not even mention the Second Amendment. Stop your attempts to deflect. (That being said, I DO sympathize with Mr Birkhead’s observation about Second Amendment proponents who flee from any responsibility as to the predictable results of the proliferation of firearms which they so enthusiastically advocate)
————
Dave H writes:
“And yes, if you assume otherwise, you are indeed no better than people like the Charleston gunman.”

Sorry, Dave H, I don’t agree that to “assume” something is as bad as murdering nine people in cold blood. How do you arrive at such an equivalence?
————
Dave H writes:
"The mere fact that you demonize groups shows you are really no better than he is." Indeed, this person wrote a letter that could have hurt someone's feelings, and that is no better than a vicious murderer killing nine unarmed parishioners at a Bible study.”

Really? Hurting “someone’s feelings” is as bad as murdering nine people? Really? Really???? What is it that you are trying to justify?
————
Dave H writes:
“Truly, many, if not most people who fly the Confederate Battle Flag are just plain ignorant, and know nothing of its history and traditions.”

Agreed, a symbol of ignorance shouldn’t fly above any state capitol grounds any more than should a symbol of oppression and treason.

Re: “Dylann Roof's teachers, Bernie Sanders' chances, and more

Speaking of just plain ignorance, I remember from my youth that certain kids, who wanted to project an image of toughness, would put two flags or decals side by side on their bicycles and cars: the pirate skull and crossbones and the Confederate Battle Flag. Of course, they had no idea of what either actually stood for, particularly as we all were Yankees growing up in the North. They just knew it was evil.

Re: “Dylann Roof's teachers, Bernie Sanders' chances, and more

Let's refine that analogy even further. "If I demonize Germans who fly a Nazi flag, I’m no better than the guy who thoughtlessly turned on the gas at Auschwitz?"

"Confederate flag flyers are not an organization..." Naturally, but racists do form organizations that proudly fly the Confederate Battle Flag as an emblem of their racism.

"To assume that a person who flies the battle flag embraces racism is incorrect." Truly, many, if not most people who fly the Confederate Battle Flag are just plain ignorant, and know nothing of its history and traditions.

An Evangelical Pastor At His First Pride Parade- his sign read:

"As a Christian I AM SORRY for the narrow-minded, judgmental, deceptive, manipulative actions of those who denied rights & equality to so many in the name of God."

Re: “Dylann Roof's teachers, Bernie Sanders' chances, and more

Asawatcher, you need to brush up on analogies. Your post should be more like:

If I demonize Germans, I’m no better than the guy who turned on the gas at Auschwitz?

"I’m sorry, Dave H, but organizations that promote beliefs ARE responsible for the actions of those who embrace those beliefs,"

Confederate flag flyers are not an organization nor do they belong to any particular belief. To assume that a person who flies the battle flag embraces racism is incorrect.

To assume the Second Amendment proponents embrace or advocate murdering people is likewise wrong.

And yes, if you assume otherwise, you are indeed no better than people like the Charleston gunman.

Re: “New Colorado research says no negative impact on children of same-sex couples

guruD, I apologize.

I thought you and OldCrank were commenting on the article about scientific research.

Of course the reactionary heads will explode over a Supreme Court decision! My bad.

Really, Mr K? California Judge Throws Out Ballot Initiative Calling For Execution Of Gay People

I think my joy in this issue is justified after a lifetime of bigotry and bullying.

Re: “New Colorado research says no negative impact on children of same-sex couples

Let's not get carried away! I am sure all the ignorant reactionaries will smugly dismiss this report as just one more example of scientific mumbo-jumbo--like global warming--and then all the liberal heads will start exploding. As Boris Badenoff once said in a commercial for the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, "Never underestimate the powers of a schnook!"

Re: “What's the plan?

I am always amused when someone who cannot read calls other people "ignorant." OldCrank never said the elected officials caused the fires. He said they caused the "fiascos" that failed to deal effectively with those fires.

On the other hand, perhaps "Can O'Korn" is just a troll with no real convictions, who is trying to create anger and confusion to fuel his personal needs. I wonder because he labels people as "racist," which does not logically follow from the post he is criticizing, but is almost guaranteed to get an angry response. The same goes for the attribution of responsibility for starting the fires to "terrorists."
