Dry spaghetti noodles sound really soft and cool and textured when you shake them, or roll them around in your hands against each other!

I have a guitar pedal that loops sounds that I either play into my guitar or sing into a microphone. I start to make different sounds and build up sounds to a full drum beat before I start playing guitar along side it. I start by hitting the body of my guitar for a real deep bass drum sound. Then I rub my fingernails across the body and it makes a little scratching sound to act like a hi-hat would. If I am playing in front of people, I try to get themt o clap on beat, then spin the microphone around and loop in the audience's clap so they are making music with me. Once there is a drum beat established, I set the pedal to stop recording and just to play the newly created beat on loop, then I start playing accoustic guitar and singing with it.

when my kids were young, we would gather all sorts of things, invite their friends and make beautiful (ha!) music!! oatmeal containers and coffee cans with rubberbands strung across, pots and pans of course, castinets (sp) made from soda caps nailed to some wood, various size bottles to blow into, jars set up with water to clank on, some with dried beans and rice to shake, garbage can drums, and cymbals from their lids, and all the sounds we could make with our voices..the kids loved it and so did i! :)

Walnut shells make great percussion when clomped onto the table like horse feet! That's my most unconventional instrument :)

when my kids were young we would use all sorts of things to form a neighborhood band...pots and pans of course....coffee cans with rubberbands strung across, castanets (sp) made from soda caps, a drum set of garbage cans, the lids being the cymbals and then just all the sounds we could make with just our voice, to form the best band ever...the kids loved it and so did i! :)

As a music grad, I learned in 20th century music to use a crumpled piece of paper and strike it against the strings in a piano.

This venue is the warmest most peaceful LOVING place to be. Where people of all age's, race, gender etc come together for the love of art and expression. Where you feel welcome at ease to pour out your heart and soul and not be judged. Everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Josh the owner is most hospitable and very much a great poet himself. Luke! The host of the 719 events is so full of passion for people. His heart is bigger than his body. Creating a feeling of family and community support. You can not leave there without your spirit being fed. Thank all of you!

This place is GREAT! Perfect ambience, talented poets, award-winning features from across the United States and Denver, friendly and loving people who are there to listen and some of the best food/ drinks around. Poetry 719 does it again!!!

A great event for all ages. No handcuffs for artists, just a place where people can be heard, share and listen. They (Poetry 719 on facebook) do a food/clothing drive to help support those in need.

One of my favorite memories of my dad is how he used to use the dash board and steering wheel of the car as his drum set. I totally remember being little and hearing the sound of his wedding ring tapping the steering wheel as he drummed away to Jimi Hendrix. Now, whenever I accidentally hit the steering wheel with my wedding ring I am instantly taken back to those special days with my dad :)
