What a shame that it closed after 111 years in the same location. I practically begged the Gazette to dignify this historic closing but neither the publisher, Dave Phillips, Linda Navarro or Bill Vogrin chose to reply.
The USL PRO (minor league) teams played 14 home games during the Mar-Oct 2013 season. 14 home games! The Sky Sox play 60+ home games. Ragain has said that he anticipates that attendance at his soccer games will be about 5000. I've looked at the USL PRO stats http://dohertysoccer.com/2013-lower-divisi… for 2012/2013 and home game attendance of "old" teams in 2013 ranges from a high of 8053 (Orlando) to a low of 542 (LA). It appears that 3000 attendees would be a more realistic expectation, but even this number is on the high side.
I think we can forget about spending dollars to make the proposed downtown stadium the perfect shape etc to accomodate USL PRO soccer. And I think the mayor should forget about spending apx $1M to update Sand Creek park stadium. Ragain needs to look to some other funding source than the taxpayers of COS.
This reminds me of the old mouse in your pocket analogy. We want this, and we want that, but the individuals using the term we don't speak for all those out there that have to fork over the money. When you say we, do you have a mouse in your pocket?
Yes, I think additional funding over and above taxes should be voluntary. It gives the donor more control as to what it goes toward and the extra money comes from people who really want to provide more money to the school programs.
