  • Violen St. Pierre is the 32-year-old administrator at the mill.  When asked about life before the mill, she replied, We saw that the people had given up hope, literally about to bury themselves--done for.  My sister said, We have to pick ourselves up and commit to this, so there is hope.   My dream is to have a better life through this organization.  Saying a lot of good words is not enough.

Many young people go to the city in search of opportunity, but find only hardship and disappointment in the crowded slums.  The few coveted sweat shop jobs pay only a few cents an hour.
