The Colorado Springs Independent, the largest locally owned newspaper and media company serving the Pikes Peak region, is the "alternative voice" providing in-depth news and cultural reporting desperately needed in our heavily evangelical, military and Republican region.

 

  • Distribution & Circulation Coordinator:

    Are you a Colorado Springs expert? Do you love being in the field, meeting new people, and analyzing results for new opportunities? Join us and oversee the entire distribution and circulation process of all publications produced by Colorado Publishing Company (CoPubCo), including the Colorado Springs Independent and the Colorado Springs Business Journal and related projects. Ensure successful and timely distribution of all weekly and special edition publications. In concert with a network of drivers, retailers, marketing and public relations professionals. facilitate circulation growth through new subscriptions and subscriber renewals and new distribution locations. This position offers a healthy balance of some data entry and computer reporting with exciting field work that keeps boredom at bay.

    Requirements:
    This role requires a blend of analytical ability and superior people skills. You must be able to build and maintain strong relationships with others of various backgrounds. You must have great communication skills, super attention to detail, a working vehicle, driver's license, current registration and insurance, and have the physical ability to complete routes when needed. This is a fast-paced, strategic role; excellent detail management is a must. Circulation Pro (MediaSpan) and/or Data to Decisions software experience a plus.   • Creative Director
    (Colorado Springs Newspaper Group/Colorado Publishing Company)

    This new position will oversee the look, voice and feel of all editorial, sales and marketing creative for our six flagship print/digital publications as well as all of our social media, community service and contract publishing initiatives.

    Your mission will be to lead our talented team of graphic designers, marketing professionals, freelance photographers and outside vendors to produce high quality, strategically grounded design.

      • Reports to the CEO and works collaboratively with the General Manager, Editorial, Sales, Marketing and Digital media teams to facilitate exciting and empowering relationship and flow of ideas.
      • Strong belief in great journalism
      • Outstanding portfolio of editorial, advertising and marketing graphic design, both in print and web. Video production capabilities a plus.
      • 5+ year track record of empowering management
      • Solid understanding of advertiser and ad agencies.
      • Ability to simultaneously juggle numerous deadline-driven projects.
      • Mastery of the latest Adobe Creative Suite software, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
      • Solid understanding of web and browser technologies
      • Comprehensive awareness and interest in new platforms and technologies for the digital channel
      • Excel in graphic communication forms including maps, infographics, etc.
      • Bachelors degree; BFA or equivalent in design a plus.

  • Advertising Account Executive

    The Indy wants you—to sell advertising (print and online).

    Looking for someone with at least 2 yrs (print, broadcast or online) ad sales exp. Should be detail oriented, able to multi-task, self-motivated, and have solid verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to service (& grow) existing customers while getting new advertisers. New business development is a key function of this position. Should have a vehicle that will get you around town & being an avid Indy reader is a plus.

Indy Interns

    • Editorial Interns
    • We're looking for college students interested in spending the Summer 2013 semester writing, researching and otherwise toiling in the Independent's editorial department. Requirements include a commitment to 15 to 20 hours of office time per week, a positive attitude, and an interest in pursuing a career in journalism. (Previous journalism experience preferred, but not required.) Benefits: college credit, experience and clips, the occasional free lunch.     • Digital Media/Marketing Interns

      Now recruiting for Summer 2013. Collaborate with the Indy’s Director of Marketing and Director of Digital Media to support the organization’s marketing strategy. Learn how to craft and evaluate social media campaigns. Capture compelling stories through strong writing, stunning images, and sensational video. Coordinate video schedule and production; provide blogging/social media support. This internship is a part-time position for academic credit. 2-3 days (15-20 hours a week) Job requirements: Ability to learn and use new technology, Interest in social media, Video or digital content editing skills, Marketing, Digital Media, or Journalism background strongly preferred.
