How does Rum Bay do it, you ask? Volume. It's got eight nightclubs under one roof and has managed to rack up a half-dozen Best Of awards through the years. Rum Bay is arguably the biggest reason for those Tejon Street traffic slowdowns on weekend nights.

Holding a reputation as the place to dance like a fool is Rum Bay's forte 2008 was the club's third year in a row to win that award, with three additional wins in its history. You'll find eight nightclubs under one roof, including the 109.57-square-foot Sam's World's Smallest Bar.

Best Of 2012: Place to Two-Step

Of all the Tejon Street establishments owned by Sam and Kathy Guadagnoli — including the Mansion, Blondie's and Gasoline Alley — Cowboys is the best-known and most distinctive. Sure, there's a bowling alley upstairs, but the world-famous magic can be found in the throngs of Western-attired revelers line-dancing to pop country hits and, in a bizarre genre aberration I'll never fully understand, Clarence Carter's suggestive soul hit, "Strokin'." Go for the novelty, stay for the fun. — Bill Forman

Winner of this year's Best New Bar, Tejon Street's most conspicuous newcomer specializes in rooftop partying fueled by happy hours with $3 pints and $6 pitchers. (Get it? Fueled? Gasoline Alley? Um, hey, where'd everybody go?) Put it all together and you've got the perfect environment for a clientele that the bar boasts is "wild, crazy and ready to rock out."

Best New Bar (since July 1, 2008)

'Saddle up, boys!" the bartender shouts as I stroll through the door with some friends. I think it an odd greeting until I try to sit on a bar stool and realize that they are, indeed, saddles. So I say, "Well, thank ya, Ma'am," belly up and order a brewski. As if on cue (and I'm not making this up), the cover band onstage blasts into a rendition of Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle Again." Heck yeah. This is Gasoline Alley, where live rock elbows its way out onto Tejon Street on the weekends, the smokin' hot bartenders are quick with the drinks, and the rooftop bar boasts a fire pit and a perfect perch for watching passersby below. — Carson Bennett
