WOW! Who says, "it isn't all about money?!?!?" - because, in reality, "YES IT IS!!!" These two mega-rich people will duke it out and fight to the death because of the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR. Yes, IT REALLY IS ABOUT $MONEY$ - for EVERY PERSON ON THIS PLANET.
Terry Maketa has been referred to as the "possible" future "hope" of the Republican Party of this state and has been mentioned as "someone to watch" in this weekly paper and other area media outlets . As the ONLY (voted-to-be-allowed) El Paso County elected official to actually successfully run for a 3rd term (that did not involve confusion in ballot writing), Maketa was "using" his county-wide popularity to try to push HIS agenda concerning his own gun-control stance/position as a "show" for his political power-pull in the higher-level governmental structures of the State of Colorado. His failure to represent "his side" of the gun-control position effectively in Denver is a "possible show" and/or a "representation" of his true inability to be a higher-level future political leader...and he isn't taking his loss very well....in fact, he's working hard to find and/or show "blame" by using these slanderous and totally unacceptable allegations against (specifically) the Senate "leaders/majority" of the State of Colorado. False allegations, "bully tactics," and/or "smear campaigns" against innocent people - our current State of Colorado elected officials/leaders are NOT signs or shows of a good representation of "future political office capabilities"; further, it shows just how irresponsible and incapable this local "leader" is to even consider "higher" political office(s) in the future. Terry Maketa is simply just a real SORE LOSER and BAD SPORT about his "side" on this issue not winning - NOT an attractive trait in ANY (so-called) "leader" - AT ANY Governmental-level.
Nice, touching piece, John. I'm glad that SOME people think of Dougie as such nice guy - it makes those of us who have "experienced" him in "later years" and despised him with so much gusto that more tasty!!! So what if he had a "good" Mom - she never taught him any REAL manners (in private OR in public...ESPECIALLY in public) - so overall, she was NOT such a good Mom afterall. Arrogance, being a pompous ass, being a horse's ass, being TOTALLY and UTTERLY disrespectful NOT to just "powers that be" but also to constituents (like lowly me) - are NEVER acceptable - in ANY form of social ettiquette. Sorry John...you go "vouch" for this fat-ass loser - and I will be a *star* witness for ANY and EVERY prosecution against this "full-of-himself" piece of crap - a TRUE and TOTAL embarrassment to not ONLY Colorado Springs - but to the State of Colorado and America.
The "Heat is On" campaign for nabbing drunk drivers began the last weekend of May - and sure enough, KKTV/Channel 11 has reported this evening (Sunday, June 5th) that the the arrest rates have increased over 10% from the same time period as last year: "Colorado State Patrol says accidents involving alcohol or drugs is up 10 percent over this time last year." In fact, more than 40 people have been "nabbed" by cops and cops are now asking citizens to help them "catch/nab" even more. Okay....we'll help - NO ONE wants drunk drivers out on the roadways - but WHY are record-numbers of people STILL drinking and driving? Loss of licenses, (often) loss of jobs/employment, financial hardships, court costs, having to install interlock devices in vehicles, weekly (sometimes daily) BA's and UA's (breath and urine testing), alcohol education classes, community servies, fines, public humiliation - what more PUNISHMENTS and HUMILIATION can we pile-onto those who choose to drink and drive in order to STOP this HUGE societal problem??? Clearly and obviously, what we have been doing and what we are doing isn't working, is it? Cops are making "record numbers" of arrests and yet they want (and expect) the public to pitch-in and help them do their jobs for them. The area jails (throughout the State of Colorado) don't have near enough room to put ALL of the people (with substance abuse issues/problems) in them....so more jail/punishment won't work. What is a state filled with so many "highly educated" and high-level of college degree people supposed to do to rectify this BIG problem in society??? More punishment??? No that hasn't worked and NEVER will. Think. Think. Think. And come up with more education and treatment answers....plans/things that WILL work - rather than continuing doing things that don't (and NEVER will) work.
Let's all pitch-in and get a covered wagon and send "old guys" Bruce and Bircham back (in time) to the days when political bullying, name-calling, the "good old boys way" of politicking were.....and get them out of this city as fast as possible!!!
Since the "core" issue of our area's homeless and mental health problems has been and remains substance abuse - this City, County and area MUST make TREATMENT for substance abuse issues a priority....deal with the "core" problem and get people back to respecting themselves and then they will work to take care of and provide for themselves.
Also, Pikes Peak United Way has over 170 "sub?" agencies.....let's work to combine the efforts of agencies more and work TOGETHER (rather than separately) to help the citizens of our area who are in such dire need.
I heard that just a few days ago a worker from Partnership Pikes Peak (a "sub" agency of Homeward Pikes Peak) got in trouble for working "with" and "together with" Greccio Housing....what's that all about Bob Holmes? Can't one agency helping the homeless actually work "together" with another - if the end-result will be for the betterment of the needy citizen(s?) RE-think and re-work how you do your "help" aspects of your "helping" agencies people....too many lives are at stake...
Once people get a "taste" of living on the Governmental payroll...there's no going back. Besides HUGE salaries (that most of us only dream of today), the benefits are full, complete, and after you hold Elected Office....unending. Yes, it's good to see that our current and former Elected Office-holders STILL want to get those GREAT Governmental paychecks and all-inclusive benefits. If ANYONE can tell me or remind me of some reason(s) exactly WHY we should support current or former County Officials (Ed Jones, Wayne Williams) for further Governmental positions (meaning...show me what GOOD they have done and/or brought to our area: City and County)....then they might be worth considering. But, as far as I can tell....they haven't really "helped" our area that much (in their past jobs/positions/Offices)- we are all poorer and in worse shape in EVERY way in our lives (personally and professionally) or have I missed something?
