I hate to rain on your smug parade, Wayne Laugesen, but it was YOUR rag's editorial page (motto: "R.C. Hoiles' so-called libertarian philosophy takes a backseat to the welfare of our advertisers") which 14 years ago boldly predicted that the new Springs airport would lure hundreds of thousands of northerly passengers away from that "liberal boondoggle" Denver International Airport. Today, the Springs' White Elephant Municipal Airport not only sees less action than Doug Bruce, but also sees less action than your political philosophy did at the polls last November!
Yup, shore duz feel right fine to have that gun on your hip. Who cares that more handguns supposedly bought for personal protection end up getting fired in criminal acts, domestic violence, accidental shootings or by unattended children than ever actually get used for self-fefense. No, guns don't kill people, people do. But the presence of a gun makes possible crimes that would be impossible without it. You can't spray a mall with a bow and arrow. You can't do a drive-by knifing. You can't hit JFK from the sixth floor with a skillet. It takes a gun. And I love the morons who claim their "Second Amendment rights" without even being familiar with the FIRST HALF of the amendment, which they conveniently ignore. The Second provided that people should have arms in their homes in order to defend the STATE (for those of you in Widefield, that means your country) as part of a WELL-REGULATED militia. If you want to know how the Second Amendment was supposed to work, read Longfellow's "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" -- if your attention span is that long.
Weren't you at the Gazette, Rich, when publisher Chris Anderson told the newsroom they were doing "God's work"? And WL's anti-Semitism, bad as it is, pales in comparison to the hateful, paranoid, xenophobic screeds Freedom Newspapers founder R.C. Hoiles used to write. Go down to Penrose Library and peruse the microflims from the early 1950s for a real eye-opener.
It's right there in the Constitution: The right of the individual to shoot houses, Ford Escorts and buffalo while aiming at something else shall not be infringed!
This article was very enlightening. Before this, I had assumed, while driving down street after street of unsequenced signals, that Colorado Springs didn't even have a traffic engineer. It's good to know otherwise. ... Actually, it's rurprising that a conservative city like the Springs even has traffic lights. After all, don't traffic signals really big-government intrusions on the individual driver's freedom to take risks? The Gazette editorial page should call for them to ba banned, in the finest R.C. Hoiles tradition!
How did this article omit Noebel's deprogramming program, where everything short of waterboarding is used to steer wayward youths back onto the Summit version of the godly path?
