"The trouble with America is that there are far too many wide-open spaces surrounded by teeth." Charles Luckman
shut up your face
The Indy didn't give King's Chef a Best Of Award; the Indy READERS did. It's a democratic process that involves voting so KC must be doing something right.

@smartestman You're libertarian right? This means that you have major issues with both the left AND right so I would assume you spend an equal amount of time on a right-wing rag's website debating all of their commenters as well?
The Independent is a liberal newspaper so that's what you're going to get when you come here. I imagine it would become exhausting continuously visiting this site expecting to see something different. Or perhaps you just weren't aware. Either way, now ya know. If you'd rather spend some time on a site whose views you're more aligned with, try http://reason.com/ It's a great magazine and perhaps it'd be a nice break from the angry comments. :)
Don't get me wrong, I think this country's going to shit too and sometimes it feels great to make yourself heard to those who so adamantly and vehemently disagree with you but because I know you and I won't be changing our political stances anytime soon, why would you expect any of the liberal commenters you're debating to?
This movie has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the Indy doesn't recommend it?? Seriously?
"It appears that when it comes to teen brain development, parents should be more worried about alcohol abuse than marijuana abuse. Two recent studies have been published showing that alcohol -- a legal substance (though not legal for teens in the U.S.) -- is considered more dangerous than marijuana, which is illegal in many countries. "
"Alcohol is considerably more intoxicating than marijuana. Moreover, one attribute of alcohol is to make the user less aware of impairment while marijuana actually produces an exaggerated sense of impairment, thus promoting caution as opposed to the reckless actions common with alcohol inebriation. "
"The person high on marijuana is not readily distinguishable from one who is not high."
- Dr. Andrew Weil, in The Natural Mind'
Alcohol is a disaster on the highway while marijuana use seems to pose a minimal threat to public safety unless it is combined in large doses with alcohol. "
YES. YES YES YES. Freedom for everyone to smoke pot. It's rated a rather harmless drug. Please educate yourself and read the studies. We have way too many people dying regularly from LEGAL prescription pills that are made in a government lab, alcoholism AND hard drugs like meth. I DO NOT THINK METH SHOULD BE LEGALIZED. Why must you think that because someone thinks marijuana should be legal that ALL drugs should be legal?! ALL DRUGS ARE NOT THE SAME. Stop stereotyping and jumping to inane conclusions. Find a meth addict and a marijuana user and compare them. Is the marijuana user suffering the way a meth addict is? Don't be an idiot and please don't pose such ridiculous questions.
Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it SHOULD be. parkview1649, please venture outside that box you live in and start questioning this government whose job it is to make you believe that every law it creates is to make you safe. The US government has made many mistakes. criminalizing marijuana was one of them. You've grown up with the consistent right to drink alcohol despite it's drawbacks so you've never questioned its legality or morality. Is this correct? (Or am I wrong and you'd prefer a prohibition part II?) But as long as you've been alive and a resident of this country, marijuana has always been illegal so you've never questioned its illegality. You tend to take things at face value, behave, and believe what you're told, right? Our parents weren't always right and neither is our government. Not this time.
Marijuana is a whole new in-demand product the government will be able to tax, we'll finally release everyone serving time for something as minor as marijuana possession and we'll put a huge dent in the drug cartels that run large portions of this country. Because, unless your IQ is extraordinarily low, we all know that when something is made illegal it will continue to linger ...but only in the hands of dangerous criminals.
Freedom IS precious. And no, we are not free to do anything we want. When what we're doing is infringing on the rights of those around us, that's where our freedoms end. But how is me smoking marijuana inflicting on YOUR rights?
The MMJ industry's motivation (business or 'helping people') is a moot point.
Smoking marijuana should be freedom all Americans enjoy,
After all, isn't that what this country is about? Freedom?
I can't seem to wrap my head around people that vote no on freedom and additional rights.
Did you also agree with prohibition, parkview1649? Alcohol has been shown to cause more damage and problems than marijuana has.
So what's the actual problem? How will dispensaries "ruin our city" ?
Please elaborate. I'm curious.
The only issue I have with bicyclists and their demands for equal treatment on the road is their lack of respect for the rules of the road. I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck behind a bicyclist on the street only to watch them quickly look both ways and then ride right through a red light. They don't wanna be delegated to the sidewalks but they have no intention of obeying the laws the motorists do. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Sorry bicyclists..when you start respecting the rules, I'll start respecting YOU.
KyleJS is right. SHAME on the Independent for publishing varying and opinions different from their own. You'd think they were a newspaper or something! I only wanna read the Indy if everyone is in agreement with me, duh. Oh, yeah, and if you'd DON'T agree with me well, you're obviously a "disgruntled loon!" Sheesh, the audacity of the Independent!
"greedy, racist, theocratic, homophobic, rogue"
Republicans disagree with excessive taxation. You disagree with Republicans and then resort to some pretty insulting (and completely irrelevant) name calling. You're just as bad, if not worse, than they are. They're standing up for what they feel isn't right and because you don't agree, you're going to
act like a fucking child throwing a temper tantrum for not getting his way.
Step down from your liberal pedestal and join the rest of the scum, on both sides of the debate, that feel THEIR opinion is the correct one.
Oh, and please grow up.
