Ted, I admire your courage in standing up and telling your story. This topic is a difficult one, that the church has an especially awkward way of dealing with. It is so complex in its many strands and facets, that the apparent obvious answers are not sufficient.
It is easy to erect the "boxes" as you suggested Oprah wanted to place you in -- heterosexual vs. homosexual, but then what do we do with Caster Semenya, who apparently has both male and female genitalia? When we study the whole issue of sexuality, we learn that it is just not a simple black/white issue, that lends itself to "boxes." In addition to the biological variables, our early childhood experiences -- such as your own -- can make imprints on our adult behavior.
Rather than judging and criticizing each other for our adult sexual behavior (or worse: hating and killing each other), we are called to love one another. Only God can judge us, and only God can bring healing where healing is needed.
