Re: “Food by the students, for the students

Joseph Coleman plus the PPCC culinary arts program? That sounds like a delicious combination!

Re: “Pikes Peak Lavender Film Festival calls it quits

Here is to a restful and peaceful retirement for Alma! She deserves it. We all owe her a debt of gratitude for creating the festival and keeping it going for all these years. There will be a scaled-back gay and lesbian film festival hosted at Colorado College on the weekend of November 16-18, 2012. It will be free and open to the general public. Stay tuned....

Re: “Bad will at Goodwill?

If you know the local folks at Goodwill, you know there must be a little more to the story than what Bryan Simms is saying. It doesn't mean he's wrong or he's lying, but I suspect there are things he is omitting. As an openly gay person in this community, I think there needs to be an ongoing discussion about realities in the workplace. Most of the time it is fine to be gay and acknowledge that you're gay, but there are still behaviors that can make co-workers, supervisors, and clients uncomfortable. There are behaviors that could make ME uncomfortable, or that I might think are not entirely suitable for work. And this is a real gray area in my opinion. I don't have all the answers by any means, I just think we need to engage and talk about it. Bryan has a right to be 100% authentic to himself. There is nothing wrong with him just as he is. And at the same time, clients at Goodwill are coming in with legitimate needs to be taken care of, and are ostensibly the reason the organizaton exists. It's not fair to them to make them pass or fail some sort of litmus test for PC acceptance. I'm gonna get lambasted by everyone for saying that, but if we don't talk about it, nothing will change.

Re: “Palin for president?

Too Proud, Are you kidding me?? Is that what you tell yourself to feel better about your own bitterness? My friends and I who are Democrats tend to have GREAT lives and we love living them. We've got good educations, good jobs, strong relationships with family and friends, and connections with our community that extend well outside the home, whether through church, charitable and volunteer work, and service with non-profit organizations. We aren't the pathetic bitter losers who hate their own lives and fill cyberspace with vitriol and hate....we're the ones who get off our butts and do something about things that need work.
