Re: “Church blames tie-dyed '60s for child rape

A half-baked and empty article, for sure; nothing more than selective stomp & pussy-foot on display.

I can never figure out: how do y'all decide when sex is the primary issue, as opposed to when it's merely an afterthought and by-product of something...deeper? How do you decide when nurture trumps nature, and whether traits are learned or innate? The "Born This Way" song seems to always change its tune in accordance with the weather.

"Pedophilia is not a social habit that one adopts; it's a sickness. Deal with it. Honestly." Actually, it IS a social habit that one adopts...often with the pre-cursor assistance of pornography. Why is pornography addiction just a social habit, yet a sickness when it's *child* pornography? Just wondering.

"Start with the obvious: Rape is not about sex, it's a gross abuse of power." Deal with it honestly: Rape is about sex AND power.

Re: “Crank rolls big bucks into anti-Skorman ad

"Why the mean girl voice?"

Ha...I thought it sounded lifted from the City's recently muzzled Code Baby!

Grrrrr.....I guess one's man's mean is another man's sexy.

Re: “Crank rolls big bucks into anti-Skorman ad

If you consider Jeff Crank to be an "extremist" then no wonder you rail against him. He's a conservative; only the most radical left-wing liberals would consider him to be "extreme." A ten-spot on the bet that 99% of the people railing against him have never heard his radio show.

And the amount of money attributed to Crank is in league with, if not dwarfed by, the amount of money contributed to Skorman's compaign by his extremist BFF and Numero Uno money-bagger, John Weiss, publisher of the Independent. Skorman is a liberal politician, no matter how he'd like to sugar-coat things.

You -- who exempt Richard Skorman from his blame in aiding sprawl, and allow him to invent links between Bach and the Pikeview Quarry scar (an event that predates most of us) -- are the very same who become "disgusted" with the "negative rancor" and *gasp* at the mere hinting that Skorman is a liberal.

Like the length of his tooth, the sun casts on him a long, left-leaning, tall and dark shadow; but though 'tis not Groundhog Day, nor our would-be leader a woodchuck, evenso Skorman anxiously shies and runs from it -- why, unless somehow it shames him? http://spydrasweb.blogspot.com/2011/04/dec

Despite claiming to be a fiscal conservative, Skorman's 10-point plan spells out an expensive, experimental liberal agenda that would work primarily to the advantage of a subset leftist elite. Colorado Springs is guaranteed a lighter-skinned, less loquacious, down-town Obama with Skorman as mayor -- and unless you wish that our city endure four more bleak years of fiscal winter...

Re: “Gay tolerance divides Skorman, Bach in mayoral debate

“What you just said damages the city,” said Skorman, with an unaccustomed edge in his voice. “Eighty to 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies offer partner benefits. They want to be in places where all of their employees are welcome. Steve just shut the door.”

HA! And why is that -- because 80-90% of the Fortune 500 companies insist on marching in a gay parade?!? Amazing that Skorman saves the "unaccustomed edge" in his voice to defend such a pointless event. SORRY TO BREAK THE NEWS TO YOU, BUT THERE ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE CITY OF COLORADO SPRINGS THAN THE PRIDE PARADE.

Give me a break, Hazelhurst -- how much are they paying you to write this crap?

Re: “Right-wing rancor, aimed at Skorman

Wow, this piece came across as the worried, rancorous ramblings of some nearly dead white guy.

Is it OK to presume that the unbiased Independent, with Weiss pretending not to be at the helm, is supporting Wimpy Skorman for the city's first strong mayor?

I wish I could say it was always a pleasure to read the opinion pieces that make up this rag -- but it's not. For a long time, though -- and even after having been terminated by this ever-thickening newsletter -- I was able to appreciate the relative elegance, the incisive reasoning, and the ideological conclusions of Mr. Hazelhurst and Mr. Routon; but lately, not so much.

Evenso, this Colorado Springs native continues to read Mr. Hazelhurst and Mr. Routon in the Independent -- much like I continue to read the National Enquirer.
