I'm going to add just a couple of comments. Maketa has whined about being short funds for years, why would ANY manager give ANY employee such a raise. I don't care who they are or what they are doing in these times some fiscal restraint is not only prudent and warranted, it is expected of any CEO. I'm sorry, Maketa blew this hands down.
Secondly, If ANY of the information is true, there are only a few who know for sure and Maketa is one of them. If he is involved, he is the only one who MUST take control of this situation and resolve it. Any CEO who loses the respect of their staff and employees is nothing more than an ineffective figurehead. Sheriff Maketa, either stand up and defend yourself and adress the matter head on or expect to get battered by rumor and inuendo. If you did these things, BE A MAN and admit it, and move on. If you lie, you will be tried in the court of public opinion and nothing good you have done will be remembered, only the folly that ended your term. Do something, before this destroy's the credibility of the rest of the place.
Lastly, decisions to allow the continued employment of the detective after what he did has brought discredit upon the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Maketa. If you don't think so, ask the Douglas County Sheriff's Office or the Castle Rock Police Department, they had to deal with this menace and must now spend countless hours in court prosecuting him when he should do the right thing and cop a plea like every other felon... being drunk and an idiot is no excuse. Any self respecting CEO would have fired him immediatley, And a dispatcher gets to pose nude, half nude, partially nude, who cares what she is or isn't wearing, she should be terminated as well. The fact that she not only continues to work there but has been promoted is disgusting.
These are the people who are entrusted to protect us and serve us... this is a respected profession, one many, many of us are proud to have participated in. The only thing I can say that the entire question of these failures of command are inexcusable.
