Congratulations to Sheriff Maketa! His dedication and commitment to this Office has showed through once again by fighting the good fight, standing strong and winning! I am not only proud of him, but also proud to be an employee of his here at the Sheriff's Office under his leadership. Congratulations again ... and best of luck to him over the next four years!
parkview1649: If I choose to capitialize MAKETA (emphasizing the name of the right canidate for the Sheriff's 2010 race - MAKETA) - so be it! It's my right!
Wantthefacts: You mentioned you wanted the facts - here is a little insight I shared in earlier posts. Nonetheless, outside of my post - I really do encourage you to visit MaketaForSheriff.com! It is a very infrmative site!
I would, however, like to share some facts and truths wit you to help you derive at a decision in casting your vote. I truly believe that Sheriff MAKETA is the right and only candidate that will continue to successfully lead that Office. He clearly exhibits the leadership, the dedication, and knowledge and so many other positive qualitites that will continue leading that Office into the future. I have read the articles and have heard the discussions as well as been a part of Tuesday's debate - and again Sheriff MAKETA is the right person for that job. He has, in even just the 8 years as Sheriff, been the true authority of Patrol, Detentions, Investigations, Emergency Services, Wildland Fire to just name a few of the larger scale Divisions within that Office. He is the true authority of a 45M budget as well as an additional 11M in grant and restricted funding. He has lead the way to creating a Community Detoxification Center, been actively involved in the 287g Program, which brings in additional revenues, is actively involved in protecting the privacy of permit holders on concealed carry, and has actively been a part of the re-instatement of the Work Release Program, been active in decreasing response times, and increasing community safety - all while achieving these goals on a tight budget. He is actively involved and seeking out legitimate options to address the staffing in Patrol. In even just the elements of his career that I have just shared, Sheriff MAKETA has what it takes to continue leading this Office.
Shirk doesn't even compare. He tells audiences that he's managed a jail - which is actually a 72 hour holding facility - not a jail. This, we know, is far different from an actual jail which will hold inmates up to 3 years. He has never been the true authority on any type of budget let alone one as large as the current Sheriff's Office budget. He has never led any iniatitive to increase safety within the community or to make it a better place to live. He has never led 630+ employees either. He wants to increase Patrol, which is definately something that needs to happen, but his tactic doesn't work nor does the money component. He wants to civilianize jail positions which are now covered by Sworn officers - pay those civilians a lesser salary to do the same job. How can he even think that is morally correct - minimize the value of civilians? It is just wrong. Shirk clearly does not have the leadership, the intellect, the dedication, and the drive that Office needs. He wants to come into that Office and tear down the very essence and the hardwork we have all put into that Office under the leadership of Sheriff MAKETA.
The only right choice here is to vote for Sheriff MAKETA. I encourage you to visit his website at Maketaforsheriff.com and learn more about him and why he is the best and only candidate for Sheriff. You will see for yourself - MAKETA is the right choice, the only choice to truly continue leading that Office into future - in a positive manner. One, we as the community, can take pride in.

bulletproof: Shirk is notorius for making racist and sexist comments, so the one you heard is just another addition to his list of many!
I attended the debate tonight at the Sandcreek Library location and watched the News 11 segment and you are right - Shrik speaks from a script! His words have no value - no truth or validity! MAKETA is the best candidate - by far and with no doubt!
To concur with elpasocitizen and sunny skies - just know, while I was at the debate on Tuesday, I too saw Shirk texting a number of times (under the table) during the debate. Shirk's campaign manager, Kyle Fisk, was doing the very same thing in the back of the room. Shirk thought he was pretty savvy cupping this phone in his hands - texting - and then sliding it into his front pocket of his shrit. Little does he know - we all saw it with our very own eyes!
