You beat me to your last line. Dieting is not "for 18 or 24 months". When it's a serious diet, it is forever. I think about how little time (one year after high school) it took to gain 15 pounds and about 3 years after that to hit my highest weight. And now, some 45 years after I have pretty much maintained my current and too-much weight, I realize getting back somewhere in the galaxy of my lower weight is going to take the rest of my life. You are an inspiration to me, but I probably am not going to get as low as I'd like. However, I can nip off a pound or so every now and then and hope that near-stability will be a sign of progress.
Hmmmm...Rich, has anyone ever called you a birdbrain? (Whoops! I shudna had said that; you may devise a recipe for hummingbrain fritters, and we'd have to sentence you to a week with Lamborn and Obama, manacled to either side.)
The "shutdown" is going to raise all sorts of questions, most of them legitimate. On one particular point -- could it be that because Johnson and Caslen are new to their positions they don't have the contacts tat might have provided them with better information to proceed? Not their fault, but the academies also have a strong political component.
Now that's almost as good a piece of writing as your more snickery self. Maybe better. Perhaps even a whole lot better. Now work on getting your readers to shed a tear or two, and you too can become Erma Bombeck.
The more things change....etc. etc. Happy birthday; remember, you're here to celebrate it.
That's a wonderful suggestion. Appropriate to the area, attractive to so many. It will take some time to fill out the roster, but it can be seen as a long-time work in progress. Don't let nay-sayers attack the concept. Not to weaken the proposal, but a similar project with Western personalities could be as interesting.
@restless, I cannot recall any presidential election outcome where the vice president was the turning point, and I go back to Eisenhower's first term. I reiterate, McCain suffered because of a bad campaign team. He woould have been third in a two-man race if Palin hadn't at least ratcheted up some interest.
