Rep. Stephens, by her comments and actions, is a knee-jerk Republican, meaning without understanding our Republic or libertarianism she simply says, "Repoobs good, libertarians bad." That's akin to most know-nothing Repoobs in their response to the liberal Dems. Stephens has never understood the meaning of the Republic as formed under the US Constitution or how it's supposed to work within the framework of the state Constitution. She disrespects so many parts of the state constitution with her behavior in elected office. It's also obvious she actually despises TABOR regardless of what she SAYS. Just follow her record and actions.
She obviously has never taken the time to understand the roots of the TEA Party, or the Declaration and construction of the US Constitution. It's all an abstraction to her. She is an opportunist and party looter who only operates in the current establishment paradigm for her benefit in being re-elected. Her arrogance will be her downfall.
SB-200 is hardly her first foray into passing non-limited-government legislation. She knew it was a slap in the face to true conservatives before she introduced it. She was also instrumental in last year's HB10-1365 with Sen. Penry taking more control of the operation of the energy industry's business model and letting government decide winners and losers. Hardly a Republican value.
As Ms. Anderson pointed out, these types of Repoobs are going the way of the Dodo bird. Bob Gardner, Larry Liston and Amy Stephens, Mark Waller, all need to realize their time is up. They are dinosaurs of an era already over. As long as Repoobs such as they stay in Party positions along with the people in the establishment that support them, younger conservatives will not join the GOP. By their own efforts then they are effectively killing the party the more time passes. It would be appropriate for them to step aside and not run for elected office again. However, it won't happen. They'll go out kicking and scheming all the way, because the arrogance is overwhelming. Just listen to them speak.
