The post made by LIFE is absolutely correct. It's not about MMJ, it's about the personal agenda of the board! It has nothing to do with the safety of the kids. I'm outraged that BOARD MEMBERS are allowed to abuse their powers. They are not "for the kids" they are "for themselves" when they get to pick and choose when follow the rules and guidelines and when to USE THEM AGAINST someone who may disagree with their wants, needs and desires.
The problem is that most BOARD MEMBERS are like sheep, and follow those with the most pull, or the most power, or the most money. They are in fear of saying what they actually feel if it is not the popular choice. They are in fear of themselves and their children getting "black balled".
I am a Board Member on a Babe Ruth Board in California. Because I got in an argument with another Board Member during All Star tryouts (where I only raised my voice and I used NO profanity) I was suspended. All I wanted to do was to copy the All Star forms completed by the kids who showed up to make sure that everything was done on the up in up (because in past years it has not). The other Board Member would not let me make copies, stating that the President told her not to give them to anyone. I told her, that I wasn't just anyone, I was also a Board Member. And as such, I have the same rights and privileges as ANY Board Member. When the President came over to talk to us, I could see that he did not want me to have them either. I could not understand why. I insisted on it, and took the forms out of the other Board Member's hands and made copies (right then and there).
The next Board meeting, one of the agenda items was "conduct unbecoming"......hence, our new president is a military guy too! LOL.... I faced the music, and one of the Board Members ask for me to be removed. I told her that was not within her or the Board's Powers; it could only be done by a vote of the general membership. I apologized for raising my voice, and that was that.
Until the next Board Meeting (which I could not make), I find out that they had a "special meeting" and instead of removing me, they decided to "suspend me" until my term is over (which was a 5 month suspension). Basically, they removed me and told me that I could not even attend Board Meetings.
I despise when people use their power to tread on others, so I hired an attorney. My attorney reviewed out bylaws, and said that they did not have the power to even suspend me. He asked the president to notify me of when the next Board Meeting was so that I could participate, and the president NEVER responded as to when the next meeting was.
Since, I have found out their hidden agenda. There are 3 boys on one of the All Star teams that did NOT go to TRY OUTS, but they miraculously are ON THE ALL STAR TEAM. This is a sensitive subject because last year my son was nominated, but could not commit the entire summer since he was going out of state to visit his father for a two week stay. Well, my son ended up not going and our league put together an additional combo all star team (which was in my son's age bracket). When I inquired to the Board who would be able to participate on this team, I was told ONLY the boys who attended the TRY OUTS would be able to participate on this additional combo team. I was okay with the Boards decision, because it applied to everyone who do not make tryouts fairly. UNTIL NOW, UNTIL THIS YEAR...... Now there are boys playing on the All Star Team, who did not make try outs. Now I believe the rule was implemented last year specifically to KEEP MY SON OUT and OFF the team.
AGAIN, HIDDEN AGENDA. IT IS ONE OR TWO BOARD MEMBERS that do not like that I speak up and give my opinion. I want transparency when it comes to EVERYTHING within our league and Board. We are a non-profit, that is how it should be. Decisions should be made to benefit the kids as a whole, not to singly exclude a child or to allow special privileges because you have the POWER and abuse it.
So, I am in the middle of all of this right now. I dislike that I am going to have to "sue" our baseball league's board in order to participate as duly elected by the general membership. But what else are we to do? When those in charge abuse their power and run over people they do not like?
All I know is that what they have done is wrong, and they picked on the wrong person this time.....
If something positive happens out of this regarding going to court and I think it could be useful for this "Jay" guy and his MMJ thing, I will definitely pass on the info.
