Nothing has changed since the days of Johnny Weida and his "Air Power" and "Rock, sir" response from cadets. Chaplain Watties, AF Chaplain of the year was telling cadets who did not "believe" that they would "burn in hell." With a reward of AF Chaplain of the Year, he boasted of using Saddam Hussein's swimming pool to baptize his "flock". Dana Born placed her signature on the base newspaper add along with scores of other staff, that "Jesus is the reason." Haggard and Dobson were sending bus loads of bible teachers for Monday night bible studies in the dorms.
So what has changed? Obviously, many of the current staff from these days still exist, ie Dana Born. Perhaps it is time to clean house at the Academy.
Gen Gould makes Gen Schwartz look impotent. This kind of dismissive insubordination being tolerated suggests that leadership in the flag ranks has failed. Comments in letters above suggest this message in the junior ranks is heard loud and clear. Gen Gould (and Gen Schwartz's inaction) lower the bar for the next generation of leaders. It is time to remove this "bible cult" from the fabric of the military and return to "duty, honor, country" and "Constitution."
And what about MRFF? Cadets have no internal military avenue to report these violations of the Constitution and insubordination of their senior commander, Gen Gould. These actions by Gen Gould strengthen the need for MRFF.
The "Honor Code" and the Constitution became meaningless at the Academy when the institution became linked to the Evangelical Mecca of Haggard and Dobson. Looking back, when this dominionism link became known with the revelation of Watties proselytizing, the "Yale review", Gen Weida's dishonorable behavior "rock sir!", team prayers, (Colorado Bible College!!) there was only one uniformed officer to take a stand to defend the Constitution and Honor Code -- Chaplain Melinda Morton who resigned in protest. Dana Born, on staff at the time, was one of the many officers whose signature appeared in the base newspaper stating "Jesus is the only answer." She and many other graduates acted with impunity then, and now. Gen Gould and any staff who have disgraced their oaths of office should be removed from office immediately.
AFA officials danced around the question, saying in a written statement that it "respects all organizations dedicated to the principles of integrity, truthfulness, religious respect and religious freedom..." The Academy Honor Code and the Constitution have been subjugated to quibbling and appeasing the evangelical mecca of CSprings and perhaps the "Tea Party." Weida and the Academy concealed and denied the blatant rants of Academy Chaplain Watties also famous for boasting about baptizing soldiers in Saddam Hussein's swimming pool. They denied the Yale Divinity report about the divisive overt evangelical pressures from Academy leadership. The "Christian Embassy Video" with Academy graduates and general officers placing their duty to Jesus above their Constitution responsibilities as flag officers to the Constitution. The problem is endemic and actions by the current leadership of the Academy with such dismissive, and perhaps criminal, responses to requests by the court demonstrate failure of the Academy to produce selfless leaders dedicated to the spirit of the Honor Code and oath to the Constitution. The Academy leadership again attempts to make MRFF and Weinstein the "red herring." What about the Constitution and the law?? As a grad, I am ashamed.
