I have 2 daughters, one who attended "public" school (D-2 and D-11) and one who has attended only a charter school (D-11) I wish I had known the truth about charter schools when my oldest started school! At 8, my youngest can carry on a conversation in German, Sign, and Spanish.. she can multiply 3 and 4 digit numbers, and can create simple video games on the computer. She is learning the joys of community and service, as well as dance and has been given an atmosphere of acceptance that allows her to be uniquely herself. My oldest suffered classes of more than 30 kids, uninspired teachers, and lesson plans designed for the lowest common denominator. She didn't hear a foreign language until jr.high, and was given tech classes based on early 90's information. I am ashamed at the lack of education my 20 yr old was given, when compared to the level my youngest has already received. Charter schools are the wave of the future.. private school education on a public school price tag!
