Well, to my surprise dozens more have posted comments to this article in the past week.

I’ve reviewed the comment thread which is approaching 25,000 words.

To me what’s most noteworthy is the toleration of corruption of the USAFA leadership both within the Academy and among the Air Staff.

You’ve got Gould, now superintendent, who bent the rules to get his younger son an appointment by having his wife, Paula Gould, act as her son’s chief official endorser. And he apparently has embroiled himself in a conflict of interest by seeking to become Hans Mueh’s replacement as athletic director while he’s still superintendent.

Both Gould and Born, the Dean, appear to have discriminated against a Mormon instructor because of his religion and authorized or passively endorsed his replacement with an unqualified officer.

Born lied to a reporter, who happens to be Pam Zubeck, by overstating faculty credentials and is under three investigations for allegedly ordering counter-insurgency tactics against a civil rights organization, lying under oath, and embezzling restricted funds for cadet purposes, each of which is a felony under the UCMJ.

Fullerton, the Vice Dean, lied to the accrediting body of USAFA about faculty credentials in an official document for reaccreditation.

Then there’s a history instructor who defends Born and Fullerton by stating that he doesn’t have any qualifying academic credentials. But he nonetheless won a popularity contest that required the Dean to review his credentials. Amazing.

And there’s a growing collection of cadets who of course are PAID to attend USAFA and given a FREE education yet have self-confessed to SHIRKING an official duty to take diligently the Defining Issues Test. And they then have the farcical audacity to ask us to take at face value their claims that they always engage in honorable behavior.

Finally, Schwartz, the Air Force Chief of Staff, came to town very recently and blew off all of this as he announced his lame duck status. What a gutless wonder he is by foisting this mess on to his successor.

None of these people is doing the Air Force any favors. Instead they give the detractors ammunition for saying that this service is the AIR FARCE.

That deeply saddens me. So very many have served so honorably in the Air Force.

It seems that the ring knocking that's happening up on the Hill create deafening echoes.

Too often what should be viewed as a very expensive privilege paid for by federal taxpayers is viewed by the ring knockers as an entitlement.

Five days ago I started this comment thread. Perhaps I'll be the last and will close it.

In going over the thread it's clear that so many passionately want USAFA to work. But it's dysfunctional in no small part due to the decline of the honor code.

While there is some variance of opinion of what's to be done, except for Michael Simler who's never has a official capacity at USAFA, there appears to be one unanimous outcry: the current leadership of USAFA isn't credible. Because of their personal conduct, Gould, Born, and Fullerton need to be promptly replaced. Actually the list is longer, but outside of McKenzie, no one else was mentioned by name in the thread.

So here we are. These three are still in their jobs with no plan in place to remove them.

What's to be done?

Who will stand up to Schwartz on Thursday and tell him to his face that their removal is a crucial first step that USAFA needs to take?

You might also want to petition Gould's boss, Gen Schwartz, at norton.schwartz@pentagon.af.mil to have Gould post this article and link to commentary in Falcon Clips.

Please write to mike.gould@usafa.edu to encourage Lt Gen Gould to post this article and link to the commentary in Falcon Clips, the USAFA news summary that is distributed to all cadets and permanent party members.

I challenge you to post this article with the link to the commentary in Falcon Clips. Anothergrad is correct; your command is ultimately judged by your performance. If you're doing a good job, then you can easily withstand the criticism. Including this article in Falcon Clips is a small step of gaining credibility. What do you have to lose by attempting to withhold this from the cadets?

I think that it's important for more cadets, like CadetX, to write frankly about what's on their minds. And it's even more important for the permanent party members of USAFA to carefully read what they have to say.

As I said before, you are the exception to the norm of cadets at USAFA.

Yes, the typical cadet is good at both academics and athletics. But facts speak for themselves, if you get a 1375 on your SATs, with a 600/775 verbal/math split, you have a chance of getting into USAFA. Except for exceptional cases that's not good enough for Harvard.

If all of the cadets were like you, I'd have no worries about USAFA.

I won't get between you and your daddy issues.

But maybe, if you ask nicely, Mikey Weinstein will agree to a boxing match with you.
