When my mom and I read this story, I was ashamed of the Humane Society and the DA of this city. I have been a rat owner for over 4 years now and have lost many to illness. A rats lifespan is typically 2-3 years if bred by a reputable breeder, less if a pet store rat. This poor lady did everything she could to take care of her pet rat. Ask Dr. Pierce of High Plains Veterinary Hospital and she would say the same thing....oh right, she did. She is my vet for my pet rats and is highly knowledgeable of them...heck, she has my respect when it comes to my boys. I've had her euthanize the last 2-3 of my rats because I didnt want to see the animal suffer anymore. Sometimes, its the only thing left that can be done.
So, the DA really needs to drop this case and focus on cases that are necessary. The Humane Society should even know better to have done this to this woman. I hope Casandra and her mom fight this and fight it hard. I bet any lawyer worth their weight can assist them in getting this charge dropped or turned into a not guilty for jury trial. Rest assured, they have plenty of people behind them for support.

Daytripper, according to the signs along 24...it"ll be closed at 2pm for the race between WP and downtown. Closures are to go until about 4:30-5pm along the course.
